Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Who is to say that AT&T is going to have the Nexus Prime when it comes out? The way they have been going it could take the 6 months after launch to even carry it. If you wait for that new tech just around the corner you will never buy anything. There is always something just around the corner. Whenever I can get my hands on it I am picking up the GS2 be damned unless the Prime actually has a real date by then.

I think about all the Samsung AMOLED fans that walked right out the door with a Samsung Infuse, not knowing a phone, twice that of the Infuse, is going to be released in less than a month.

I think about all the Android customers, looking for a dual core processor phone, walking right out the door with the Moto Atrix...not knowing that a better dual core phone + BETTER screen is being released in less than a month.

99% of phone users don't have a clue and/or don't care, only the miniscule minority of us that frequent forums such as these. Single, dual, quad core they don't have a clue and don't care. It (Infuse or any other similar device) is just a phone with a nice large screen.

Also, the GS2 isn't "twice the phone" an Infuse is by any stretch of the imagination. The only "big deal" is the dual core CPU but that is mostly hype anyway. Just like when multi-core desktop CPU's came out they still need software to support them.

It's only folks like you and I that "care."

I am thrilled to have found this forum today! I can't agree with you more. One reason why I shop online after researching and reading lots of reviews! I don't trust the store sales reps and I even know one personally

I have had a dead phone for three months now, am on my son's family plan, looking to upgrade on a new 2-year contract and while I was tempted to snag the Infuse, I am still holding out for the Samsung Attain as it will suit my needs and then some!

I've waited this long, I think I can handle another two weeks :p

no, if that training document is correct T-MOBILE is looking at an october release. doesn't necessarily have any bearing on us. the original galaxy s had a staggered release on the 4 carriers last year also.

Staggered, yes, but all roughly around the same point. If memory serves, they were all released between the beginning of July and the beginning of August - I can't see Samsung deviating from that, so it is a safe assumption to presume that the Attain (or whatever the AT&T version ends up being named) will be released roughly around the same time as it's T-Mob sibling.

nope, july - september, a 2 month window.

additionally, it was always rumored that the Hercules would launch later than the other variants. either way we'll know definitively in 2 weeks.

debatable... lol

it definitely had better specs with the dualcore processor and super AMOLED...but I don't know that I would call it twice the phone. Still no LTE radio...and by christmas we may see the CELOX and a handful of other devices that put both the infuse and sg2 to shame

Hopefully I will know more tomorrow...I have my man date with the samsung dude that has one.

What is that???

no idea..other than badass :P

I have almost convinced myself that the time to buy is going to be Christmas....you have the SG2 from samsung yeah, but then all sorts of new phones are popping up...HTC has a new round of phones slated to come out, and then all the phones we already have heard rumored will be out as well.

at this point I will take at least a $200 hit on the infuse if I trade it in/ sell it....might as well wait.

Overall folks, I think people should do whatever they want. Wanna wait for a Icecream or Nexus? Do it. Need instant gratification? Do it. But like others have said, don't expect a phone salesman to do your research for you. Their job is to sell you something while you're in the store, not educate you on up and coming phones that may or may not be released in a couple of months.

The carriers do have too much power in the States, but until we all decide to vote with our dollars and go to one of the regional carriers, that's the way it is (would that even work? or would it just create another monster?).

Realistically, will I really ebay a SGSII for a Prime? Probably not. I tend to use my phones until they die. But it's an option. Yeah, I might take a hit if I did, but it's not the carrier's job to keep me in the latest and greatest phone. Make a choice and commit. We all have the option to go off contract and pay full price if we really want to (once it comes to the States ... but that's another argument).

I can accept that most Android fans are generally more "in the know" than iPhone fans....and as such many (especially the ones that take the time to post on forums) are more independent than others.

With that said, I worked as a computer salesman for a big box store. My job wasn't only to sell computers....but to provide the best solution to the customer based on their needs. This also includes telling a customer to hold off a few weeks on a purchase because what they are REALLY wanting is coming down the pipe.

I can't tell you how much trust this built with my customer base. Instead of my customer taking the product home, and feeling cheated once they figured out I didn't give them all the info available....they generally appreciated the heads up and passed the word to their friends.

Maybe my experience as a tech salesman gives me a biased viewpoint on what the job of a salesman is. But when it comes to this highly competitive industry, businesses need all they can get in order to set themselves apart.....and one way is have competent sales people that have a clue what is going on in the industry of the stuff they are selling.

I don't want to buy my phone from a former used car salesman (that doesn't have a clue whats going on in the industry), I want to buy my phone from someone that speaks my language and shares my understanding of the product I'm buying.

And further more.....consumers shouldn't have to scrape FCC records & rely on mistweets from manufacture CEOs to find out info on these devices that we are locked in for 2 years with.

Agree with Boondoc. They are there to make the sale and move products. Its not like the Infuse is a bad phone..just not as good as the "next" phone which is getting close now. This type of thing happens everywhere. For an off subject example: look at the 2010 mustangs compared to the 2011 mustangs. Better handling, much more power, and not much more cost. Wonder how many un-knowing 2010 owners got ticked off after that?

I was pretty interested in the Atrix until I actually went and saw one in person and saw the screen quality. That penTile screen is really crappy...no deal. Now I wait to hear the news on the 29th.

Again, call me old fashioned, but people who sell stuff should be a subject matter expert (or atleast somewhat knowledgable) of the thing that it is they are selling.

And IMO, a salesman that is just there to move product, and not solve a customers problem, is a bad salesman....or at the least a bad sales approach....but I digress.

The Infuse is not a bad phone..and I was speaking in general terms when I said the SGII was double.

The SGII will have a dual core 1.2-1.4 Ghz processor....of which Gingerbread & ICS are designed to take advantage of dual core processors. The Infuse (while having a solid single core processor) loses not only because of its CPU power, but also that the new Android Operating Systems are not being optimized for single core processors.

Also, the SGII will have 1GB of RAM, double that of the Infuse's 512MB. As Android phones are resource hogs (in comparison to it's iPhone brethren), doubling the RAM a phone has will certianly improve the performance of Apps, and allow for more "bells & whistles" to be running on the desktop while staying performant.

Yes yes, Caviat Emptor and all that.....I just think I'm not asking a whole lot for an AT&T employee to have even heard of the word Attain, in context of a Samsung smartphone.

And if we are having a discussion about how Android can pull more customers from iOS, I think its relevant to bring up the fact how confusing it is to make an Android purchase...in comparison to purchasing an Apple product.

RajCaj, I'm with you 100%.
When I pay $200+ on an item, I expect to be helped make a decision. I'm not buying a bag of chips from the shelf and go to the scan yourself register. There's a salesman paid to help customer decide what's best for them.

Again, that is just an invitation to an event. We are pretty certain that the event is to announce the SGS2 phones. What he don't know is what the launche day will actually be.

Ok "from what I gather"

The phone will release on Sept. 2nd, no keyboard (No SGS2 will have a keyboard)
This device was loaded with 2.3.4 and a completley revamped Touchwiz. I am not familiar with TW4 so I don't know if this was it or something else.

Delay could have been due to many reasons.... but "I gathered" they will be including the addition of transformers 3.

The screen is amazing...the super AMOLED will definitely blow your mind... you wont even notice the loss of the .2 inches

It has capacitave buttons at bottom like the Infuse and other Devices.
It threw me off slightly that the light was yellowish from these buttons, but "I gathered" this was a pre-production test phone..ie small changes may be made prior to release.

"I gather" the Att version will release first on the 2nd...followed by Sprint, then tmobile and last verizon ("I gatherer they do not want it to compete with another recently released phone as it could mean EOL for that phone I also "gather" they will be receiving the next Nexus phone before anyone else.

more in a bit I took a break here to let the guy breathe and I ate some nachos

...and I come back later.....

I played with gps...locked on to two satellites in less than 60 seconds....indoors

I think he said Tmo will be the only one to use the screen 4.5....all others took the 4.2

"I Gathered" Sprint will be the only one to change the name (Epic Touch)....the other three carriers will carry the galaxy s2 brand name.

I like others have said "oh so what dual core blah blah blah...let me tell you..this thing whipped through everything I threw at it ..the only thing that hung for a moment was the camera. After taking a pic it hung up for just a second.

No longer have the phone in hand Can't test anything
standard disclaimer ....all of this is speculation you did not hear it from me type stuff lol

can you take a picture of the phone and the about screen?

do you know which model att will get? the i777 or the i927?

No pics allowed. i will check model # but it may not be accurate

edit...there may be small cosmetic changes prior to release/on final release phone....that is the only reason I state possible lack of accuracy on model #

Cool info. Thank you. What do you mean by "the addition of Transformers 3?" I don't understand what a movie has to do with a phone.

the galaxy s variants launched in the US with digital copies of Avatar. the galaxy s 4g had Inception. he's saying that a copy of Transformers 3 will be preloaded on the sgs2

i777

crap....didnt run quadrant..I frequent this place downtown often..I will see what I can do. Surely I will run into him again.

I call shenanigans. TF3 will not be on the GSII, at least not anytime soon. TF3 isn't due on DVD until late fall.

if you're real (not making any judgements but it is the internet...) then that makes me happy. i'd rather have the i777 because...

Does it have NFC? 4G or 3G?
it has nfc. the att version will have hspa+ "4g" but not lte.

to be fair, tmob is the only one with a history of pre-loading movies and if the leak from earlier today is true the hercules won't be coming until oct 26, and TF3 is supposed to come out the end of next month.

Even if it is just go with it. It's better then nothing.
right. i'm taking this all with a mountain of salt but hell... at least it gets some activity in this forum.
