Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Awesome stuff guys i've been reading for over two months and finally decided to sign up to to add to the forum. I am out of my mind bat sh*t mad that the sg s2 isn't out yet but i've finally decided that i'm gonna pick up the lg thrill and if the sg s2 isn't out by my 30 day exchange then f'em that is seriously outrageous 6-7 months to bring a phone to the biggest market in the world clearly shows how far apart samsung and apple are. You either offer the phone and the big 3 take it or not you don't cat and mouse back and forth you look weak and makes apple have the upper hand. I just think samsung should announce like Nokia just did that they wont have the N9 and make it official don't let ppl sit around waiting if it won't come.

Is Apple going to keep the SGS2 from coming out here in the U.S.? Is it better to get it unlocked than to wait for it to come out to my AT&T store? Someone please let me know.

Several reasons...and I know everyone is different, but in my case 1)I will not be a "heavy user" but it will be used for work purposes (email and such) and of course along with normal uses...light gaming, apps, light internet usage. 2)I can afford a $200 phone (upgrade price) but doesn't mean I want to pay that if I can find a phone that will satisfy my wants for less. 3) would be nice if the phone was slightly smaller but I don't think it is.

Whatever I end up with will be my first smartphone...My requirements are that it is 4G capable (preferably capable with the upcomming ATT LTE), good hardware (the Inspire for instance felt a bit laggy compared to my fiancee's iPhone4 and so I don't want a new phone that already feels slow), not too big (4.5" screen is just too much).

With ATT's current lineup, that only leaves the Atrix which I've read can overheat (still researching that issue), but its only $99. The LG Thrill looks to be a great phone for $99, but is pretty much as big as the Infuse (still considering it) and now this new Galaxy R is announced which would probably be just about right for me...but again I don't want to wait 2 mths for it.

Sorry for the long comment lol

That price keeps me away from the phone.

Well... late 2011 is almost here and it looks like Samsung is not releasing the SG2 too soon, so... we might get an LTE SG2.

keeping in mind that at&t doesn't have lte up and running yet anyway ;)

No LTE in SGS2 Attain isn't big deal. Its HSPA+ up to 21Mbps should be more than enough speed. Actually this is good for AT&T folks waiting on SGS2 as it doesn't require any major changes to international SGS2 in terms of internal hardwares. I think AT&T will be getting LTE phones from next year.

Samsung is probably looking at timing for US SGS2 launching to counter iPhone5. But I don't think they will be able to ban SGS2 here like they are trying to do for Tab 10.1 in Europe.

I really don't like Apple's recent attitudes, lawsuits against android manufacturers. They seem to think they can sue anything with rectangular touch screen, icons on square grid rather than compete with products in market. I will never buy their iDevices again. It's like giving them money for lawsuit, not for innovation.

This looks to be it finally. I have always speculated that they would try to steal some of the iPhone 5 thunder by releasing the device just before Apple. Well that now seems to be confirmed with a big reveal on the 29th.

No official word on what will be shown but there is a big II on the invitation so I am sure this is the release of the US variants of the SG II.

Samsung sending invitations for a ?major product announcement? on August 29th, could it be the US debut of the Samsung Galaxy S II? - Phone Arena

Here is the Link

So what does this mean? How have previous Samsung announcements worked out?

This is a VERY narrow window....you potentially have the Galaxy II releasing in the first two weeks of Sept, you potentially have the iPhone 5 releasing between mid Sept - early Oct, and you potentially have the Nexus 3 releasing mid Oct - Nov.

From an Android perspective.....I'd love to have the Nexus 3. Its got a faster processor than the SGSII, will be the first phone to get ICS, no bloatware, and a much higher resolution Samsung AMOLED Super Plus screen.

The SGSII will be obviously be available first.....but the phone has been out since June and there has been some leaked info on Samsung having a ICS phone in the works. The only upside I can see is the 8mp camera (Nexus 3 rumored to only have a 5mp camera)

And then you have the iPhone 5 dropping in between the two phones... Yea it runs iOS, but you can't deny the performance, sexiness, and a much simpler smart phone world to live in.

Are there any other phones out on the horizon that are looking good?

Wonder if we will get a word on pricing before this supposed launch? I doubt it, but would be cool. I'd guess $199 with a 2 year contract as usual. Wonder if I'd be able to get the phone any cheaper through 3rd party places like Amazon?

On the verizon side, it will have more competition with phones like Bionic, HTC Vigor, LG Revolution 2. They are all supposed come in Fall. They should be well aware of it. I hope they beefed up spec a bit to counter those rivals. From leaked new Sammy beast phones list yesterday, such phones are indeed in the pipeline.

Yah they may actually be planning on announcing on Aug. 29(Monday) and launching on Tuesday. This would keep them within their timeline they announced and Tuesday is a more typical launch day.(Although I wouldn't turn it down on a Monday lol)

It is not unheard of for a product to be released the same day it is announced.

For what it's worth....I dropped by an AT&T store today to pick their brains (i know, wishful thinking) and they didn't have a clue.

Not only did they not know when the Attain was coming, they had no clue that there was a phone even called the Attain, or that Samsung was releasing a galaxy II variant to AT&T.

I'm just shocked that someone who gets paid to sell phones can't even bother to spend 5 minutes on an android forum to inform themselves. Again, had I been a regular consumer that didn't do research, they would have let me walk out the door with an Infuse, only to get trumped less than a month later.
