Official Release Date Rumor Thread

True, if you got the unlimited data plan.

Exactly, otherwise why would you care that is has a 8 MP camera or if it has camera at all, you have a digital camera, don't you? Why would you care if it can store phone numbers, you have your organizer, right?

That's not what anyone meant at all. Like I said, I don't expect my phone to be as good as my home computer, yet it still functions well as a computer. Same for GPS. I don't EXPECT it to function as well as my Garmin, but I do want it to be usable.

don't need unlimited data - can listen to the music in "offline" mode where it's not streaming at all.

I rarely use my digital camera, though I have a relatively nice one. When my cat is being cute, or I'm otherwise trying to capture something quick, it's the cell phone, because that's what is in hand. So I'm not sure where you're trying to go with your argument. I expect advertised features to work as advertised on my devices - I don't feel that's even remotely close to unreasonable.

I apologize. It looks like I made a bad use of words. I was not trying to argue and chicknil, that was my point, too: I buy a phone with GPS, camera, electric razor, swiss knife and what not because I need those features, I want to use them and I'm expecting them to work. When I go somewhere, I want to take with me my phone and be sure that I have all the devices I need right there, inside the phone.
Once again, I was no arguing. I think I'm too excited about this phone. AT&T give it to us already! :(

ewwwwww....

i just ran across the same pic.....me no likey. i bet it is the epic 2 tho

i am getting tied of these articles with no real info :(

Here's a bit of pure conjecture. The ATT Galaxy-S II will not, in fact, be named Attain, but will be the Captivate 2. No proof, no link, pure speculation.

How do they know this will be Attain without any hardware spec other than keyboard? There was leaked photos of similar keyboard LTE device for Verizon a few weeks ago, but that one is single core phone.

Well judging by the benchmarks its definitely a dual core and the only dual core that scores that high stock is the exynos processor and also it has the same textured back. It actually makes sense since the infuse was just released the GS2 would totally cannibalize its sales and make it redundant.

That's good to know it packs dual core Exynos. Then what was leaked photo of all screen Attain sitting on dock about a month ago? That one looked similar to international GS2 except physical home button replaced with four capacitive buttons on bottom. Maybe they are planning to launch both device?

I think that's possible. There was leaked photo of all touch screen Attain as you said and the one that passed FCC before didn't have keyboard. I guess we will know soon. For me, I don't mind having keyboard.

Something tells me the SGSII's that are coming to the US in August are not the same that were planned back in March, which is why we've had the delay. I wouldn't be surprised if the names are different either.

The leaked photo of a phone in a dock looks like Infuse to everyone. No way to tell that it is NOT an Infuse.

I have a phone with a slideout qwerty and I friggin hate it being there. Makes the phone bulky, you can feel a wiggle when you hold the phone a certain way (nothing crazy but you FEEL movement, and that bites!). And worst of all, the buttons are too smooth and slick. Your fingers slide off. It is not useful AT ALL.

And if anybody should need a slideout qwerty, it's me, because I have long(ish) nails and cannot press on screen keys with my fingertips..

So basically AT&T is gonna go all out and try to make everyone happy by getting a GS2 with a keyboard AND a GS2 without a keyboard? Aslong as they both come out at the same time and I get the one I want I'm fine with it. Offers some variety but I want as close to the original GS2 as I can get so no QWERTY keyboard for me hopefully...

model number mostly. the Captivate was the SGH-I897 the Infuse is the SGH-I997 and this phone is the SGH-I927

each US carrier gets their own model # designations. the SxH-I usually means Att. the SxH-D is usually Sprint. blah blah blah.

i REALLY doubt that because the no keyboard one might just be a testing device seeing as how it still has the engineering identification stencils on it and the slider looks for all intents and purposes like a retail device.

THIS is what I'm talking about. Not a single word about this anywhere until the last few days....weeks from the rumored release date.

I don't know anyone (and thats not to say the feature isn't warrented) that likes a slide out keyboard. The buttons are way too small.

A buddy linked me to an article on Android Central that highlighted the new possibility that the Attain will release with a keyboard, but a non keyboard version is potentially in the works and may have lower specs. The "tipster" in the article stated that they could not confirm it had the AMOLED screen.

Is this the Galaxy Z mid-grade phone that we are going to get without the qwerty keypad?

There was in fact a GSII style phone with dual-core Tegra that went through the FCC with AT&T frequencies. Could have merit.

If the Attain is indeed a keyboard phone, it makes the Atrix vs Attain decision for me, particularly if the "non-keyboard version" is a lesser phone than the keyboard version.

Stupid, AT&T. Why would you go and ruin a perfectly good phone by adding on useless hardware?!

I don't know why you folks keep throwing this link? It's already getting old news and I pointed out non-keyboard version coming together from android central report already.

As of right now it's just a rumor. I don't see them putting out two versions for one carrier not giving the others the option too. I do see them throwing a Galaxy Z (R) are way or the Galaxy S 3D which both contain no keyboard

starting with the fact that i suck at math and moving on from there...

i measured width of the top half of the phone and came out with ~18cm the keys worked out to about ~2cm (this is from my htpc on a 42" tv with a resolution of 1920x1080)

so that gives us a ratio of ~9:1

the top half of the sprint phone that went through the fcc (i'm just guessing here that they're within (HA!) the same size) is 69mm which 69/9 gives us ~7.6mm for each button which is actually pretty freaking big.

now then, when the phone comes out and i'm proven to be way off, i did say i suck at math. i could have went wrong at the very start and not even have a clue so take this with a huge handful of salt. (GIGO)

the last time i remember this happening was the touch pro 2/touch diamond 2
