Official Release Date Rumor Thread

So it looks like the info i gave a little while back about Sept 18th was correct? I wish it was sooner.

Well, there has been no official date released, but the verge says 9/18.

You did say that weekend they were told to have more staff tho!

Time will tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK...so I was right and wrong. Slightly bigger battery (according to what the spokesperson said) but 1650...not 1800. I'm not sure what the European version is.

The Sprint/tmo have 1800 battery, but thats to compensate for the bigger screen.

I prefer AT&T's version, but I don't want to be capped ):

uncapped data that doesn't work is in no way shape or form better than data that works lol... Look through some of the sprint forums...when they do have a 3g connection, they have a slow one and 4g is almost non existent unless standing in the middle of an intersection or right under a tower.

I ditched Sprint after over a yr with no 4g or 3g in Dallas, one of their major markets. ..that's how I ended up here actually

and quit referring to it as capped data. currently Att does not have capped data, you pay for what you use :p

Sorry, I meant unlimited.:o
Also I'm with tmo at the moment and I can upgrade at any given time. decisions decisions :s

Everything he says about Sprint is true. I'm waiting for this damn phone to come out so I can switch to AT&T. Sprint is cheaper for a reason!

Also "In fact, the AT&T model looks indistinguishable from the European version that we compared it against, while the other two look a bit different." music to my ears :p

What happened to the i927 with the qwerty slider? Did it disappear?

No, it is still slated for a q3 release...it technically is not a GS2 phone

See what I was talking about...the text looks smoother, less jagged

I know its nothing brand new, but I think this is cool:

Voice Talk allows users to give voice commands, including voice dial, text message, navigation, music, Web browsing and search. When docked into the car dock, the Galaxy S II automatically defaults into Voice Talk mode.

Currently, I use bluetooth to sync up my old messaging phone to my car and I'm sure this one will work well also. But I'm curious, they say "When docked into the car dock..." is this a seperate accessory or would it work if I just had the phone plugged into my car's USB port?

How has AT&T done high profile phone launches in the past (other than iPhone)? Pre-order on-line, pre-order in store, show up at 4AM?
Matt

When my contract ended in June and I was looking for a new phone, I was looking at Android, Iphone 4 and Windows7. This feature is what sold me on Android believe it or not. Yeah, they make apps for the other ones, but Android was the only one that has Voice Talk out of the box and just works better. Long story short, I got on the internet looking for the best Android phone and heard about the Attain that was going to be released later that month. Never knew it was going to take 3 additional months. :(

When they released the captivate, they started selling it two days early. Otherwise, nothing special. No preorders.

Do you really think that people are going to have to line up early for this phone (or any phone other than an iPhone)? Plus, with the iPhone due very soon this store launch is going to a little less than overwhelming.

SGS2 is late to US, but still it's very powerful phone easily outperforming any others until next monster phones like Nexus Prime with 1.5Ghz+ dual core, HD screen come. I don't think iPhone5 will have any significant edge over SGS2 hardware wise.

Blah...I don't care what specs the iPhone 5 has. I can't stand Apple playing big brother over what I can do with MY phone.

I think the paranoia began with Evo. They sold out for weeks at a time. There was a serious shortage. No problems whatsoever with Epic (I think there were still Evo shortages when Epic dropped).

In the Evo 4G case, it was already known that HTC had some manufacturing issues, which limited supply before launch. I think because of this news, more people were rushing to try and get the phone as soon as possible, which limited supply even more.

Despite the excitement of today, US consumers aren't really that into Samsung phones. Even for the SGS1, competing HTC and Motorola devices sold more.

Not sure if it is or isn't 9/18 but the article quoted above refers to an AT&T press release which has no release date in it.

Samsung Mobile Twitter posted the article on thisismynext.com the exact same time the announcement came (maybe even before), so that means that thisismynext.com already had the article prepared.

I don't think Samsung would promote the article and what appears to be giving them early access if the information wasn't true.

That's why I'm pretty sure it's Sept. 18.

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw that article was changed from "Sept 18" to "in the coming weeks". I wonder who gave them the Sept 18 day? I would still put my money on it.
