LOL ... and the guy I talked to last week said you could.In fact he was standing at the booth telling anyone who stopped by to just look at the displays that "the reason it's better to buy here was you are able to return it within 90day if something you like better comes out." His manager was right next to him. If I get something there I am going to record the conversation.

I really think it depends on the location. I am in Northern CA and my local Costco lets you return and exchange phones within the 90 day return window.. As far as I know this is general Costco policy, so if you are being told something different it may be a regional or locatiob specific policy. Go try asking at a different Costco if there is another one close.
As someone else up thread stated, what or how Costco as a third party retailer chooses to sell or accept returns is up to them. Not AT&T not Verizon or any other carrier. Costco makes its money selling the contract, either a renewal or a new contract, not the phone itself. So they can choose to swap phone. And most likely will rather than refund your money and have to CANCEL the contract.
