***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

I'm going to do what I did last time... use their own documents stating when an update would be released, document the lack of communication from either the manufacturer or VZW, and ask them to send me the forms to file an arbitration complaint.

And no, I shouldn't be happy. None of us should. If you tell your boss you will be in on a Saturday and don't show up, but you show up on Monday on normal, should he be happy? If your wife says she will be home at 8 and rolls in at 11 smelling of liquor should you be happy? I'll be happy when they do what they say and say what they do. Period.

When I asked about this on their twitter support page I got this :

"GalaxySsupport: @DavidnMegan6907 Hi David! You're previous inquiry was due to our website automatically updating which has since been corrected. ^Sab"

Automatically? Like it's sentient and knows that 2.2 is coming :p

I can't wait to hear this one...

So here's the response

GalaxySsupport: @DavidnMegan6907 I'm not familiar w/web design so I'm not quite sure how it was scheduled to issue. Again, sorry for the confusion. ^Mary

GalaxySsupport: @DavidnMegan6907 We're not provided information on the release schedule for the update. ^Mary

I'm sorry, folks, Cochinsky included, but I have to play devil's advocate and side with leehblanc on this one. I, for one, am glad he contacted them and called them on it. I recommend you tweet to them also that they boast a "google" experience when Verizon has clearly removed as much google as possible and replaced it with crap that hampers the user experience (proven), slows down the phone (also proven), and potentially can cost the user much more money than they anticipate (CityID and VZ Nav.) They clearly show a google search widget that simply does not exist on this phone unless you install a third party launcher or root. They are still advertising an experience, and thus, a PRODUCT that simply does NOT EXIST. Just like the previous advertisement for a 2.2 Fascinate that doesn't exist, a Samsung Fascinate with true "google experience" also does NOT exist. I am sick of being over promised and under delivered. I know that geek squad among tech oriented people has a bad rep nationwide. Average consumers still go in and use them a lot, but the tech savvy loathe them because of what? Over promising, over charging, and under delivering. I actually worked for the geek squad for about a year as a part timer. My goal was to UNDER promise and OVER deliver and charge a fair price for my labor. And I did it, often not following company policy to the letter or possibly doing extra services that weren't included in the base fee just to go the extra mile for the customer. I was not the only one in my squad that did such a thing. Right now our department is TOP RATED in our district for customer satisfaction. We meet and exceed our department goals consistently, and we deliver the best customer experience when we possibly can. I have had a manager start to chew me out for doing to much or going beyond what the written scope of the job was. I said I'd be happy to leave and go do the work on the side, but it's never come to that. The proof is in the pudding. They never made me work a Sunday and paid me what the cap was for a long time because I kicked ass for the customers, and single-handedly brought a ton of business to my store. There are customers that come in and want taken care of. Often, customers that have money, but want to be treated with respect. My store will let me leave the counter and go sell to them in every department in the store. They spend thousands, but often get discounts I work for them because of how much they're buying. They get a great service experience. Best Buy makes good money. And now we have a faithful customer.

I used to be a supervisor in the same store. Delivering a great customer experience made my department a success. That was my goal, and that's been my goal since the first day I started at Best Buy nearly six years ago. I've had managers say to me and others that they've never seen anyone deliver a better customer experience.

THAT is what makes a winning business model. THAT is why I've loved Verizon for so many years. They are starting to let me down more and more lately. I've NEVER minded spending extra for the great service and great coverage, but T-Mobile and Sprint have made leaps and bounds improvements in their customer service over the last year. If Verizon continues to decline, and verizon/samsung continue to over promise and under deliver, they will see me and every family member and close friend whom I have solid influence over will eventually be jumping networks. It won't be hard to sell them as long as they get reception. Especially when I tell them they're going to get more minutes and more data for their $$$.

Whether Verizon or Samsung "promised" froyo by the end of the year or not, waiting this long is frakking ridiculous. Motorola is supporting their devices like crazy right now. They are once again the Motorola my dad used to sell radios for decades ago. I was really hoping for better support from Samsung and VZ on the Fascinate when I traded my DX in for it. We have a right to be disappointed.

Samsung brags about selling well over a million galaxy S devices. If they don't follow their success in hardware sales with successful software support, people are going to feel burned and the Galaxy S will be a one hit wonder.

Edited for space concerns

Thank you. Personal attacks aside, all I was trying to say was that Samsung/VZW may not have ever promised the update, but it was certainly implied, very similar to the first 5 months of the Droid X's life. I got rid of the X not because I'm a 12 year old girl and I wanted something to stomp my feet and cry about, but because the phone I had on 9/23 had LESS functionality and MORE bugs than the one I purchased on 7/19, and there was NO WAY to get that back.

I think the Fascinate with DJ05 and Stupidfast 1.54 > Droid X. I'm quite happy with it, BUT as you said, there is no excuse for implying that it has the "Google experience" or 2.2. Those implications also imply the new Google maps, Chrome to phone, Apps2SD and many other features I would use constantly, but have no access to. As with the X, this phone didn't quietly appear in Verizon stores one day... it arrived with much fanfare. Almost constant commercials with a remixed 80s song I had hoped never to hear again. In my opinion, you don't shove something in someones face for months to get them to buy it, then shove it up their a$$ when they expect you to support it. I did my research when asking for a new phone, and then just like now, there were hints everywhere that 2.2 would be coming "very soon" Almost 2 months later, that's STILL the party line.

I do a lot of computer repairs on the side. I charge a flat fee and quote prices up front. Unless I find something else wrong, I NEVER charge more than my quote. I get a lot of business and it's ALL through referrals. I have a 30 day guarantee that I put in writing. If I clean malware and the customer is back to a mess of a machine withing 2 weeks, that's MY fault for not educating them and giving them the tools (Malware Bytes, MSE) to help themselves. Like you said, customer service.

If expecting companies to deliver good value with their merchandise and good support and customer service makes me "a 12 year old girl" then I guess I am. If calling said company on putting out the same "Inaccurate and confusing information" they say would be the result of giving us a Froyo date is wrong, then call me "Sally"

The thing that made this forum feel so different and welcoming to me was that people didn't resort to personal attacks or bashing and instead showed one another respect, even if they had differing opinions. I hope that hasn't changed.

Wasn't it verizon who said that the option to choose google over bing would be part of the 2.2 update? That would sound like a promise and/or announcement of a future 2.2 update to me.

As with many others I stuck with this phone over switching to the x or Inc in my 30 day window b/c the impression that was given to us that the update would be any time. That has changed over and over. I know people get tired of hearing others complain but a forum is where some of us come to vent. If this us 'community' then please don't attack us for that.

I am just as upset by the delay as the next guy. But, I also have another Fascinate (wife's stock), DX, D1, and EVO. Even without Froyo, I wouldn't trade my rooted, tweaked Facsinate for any of them. So, the point is; don't feel stuck. I feel your pain though...

Okay folks, here's the deal..... you stop bickering away like spoiled kids in a kindergarten playground and I won't start handing out infractions.

These forums are here for users to share information and assistance. If you want to pick fights with each other please either take it to PM or meet up in a deserted car park somewhere.

Thanks for your cooperation.

When I bought my phone the salesperson was EXTREMELY nice and helpful. He said he couldn't tell me when 2.2 was coming but everything he read was the same as what I read and we both figured it would be soon. All other devices got it in short order so I figured by the end of november at the latest. Here we are, about to ring in the new year. I have 8 months until I can get a new phone. I want to root so badly but I pay for warranty on my phones thru half of their lives and to root would be wasting all of the warranty money I put into the phone.

You know what would be nice at this point? Some acknowledgement from Samsung or Verizon. Maybe a status update. Maybe just a public statement to say "we hear you, we know you want an update, we're working on it... here's where we are". But no, we get nothing. (note there was no "sorry it's taking so long" in my example statement but I sure wouldn't mind hearing a "sorry it's taking so long" from either party).

SOMETHING to let us know that they value us as customers. My co-worker just showed me his sweet 55" samsung LED LCD TV and the Blu-ray player that goes with (samsung as well). I REALLY want something like this for my living room but you know what? I feel on the fence about giving samsung more of my business. If this is the way they treat customers with ZERO communication as if they don't care as long as they got my money, then I may not want to buy any more of their products. Which really sucks cause everyone knows they make some of the best screens in the biz... but when you burn me (which they haven't quite done yet but I'm feelin the heat) I don't want to support you any longer.

That goes for you too verizon. I don't really care if it's Samsung who's holding up the show or not. They're YOUR partner in business. It's YOUR responsibility to maintain communication with them and pass that along to the end consumer.

Anyone else looking at the calendar and thinking "Year end my a$$."?

Yep, but they still have 2 full days. Motorola met their "end of summer" deadline by releasing 2.2 for the X on the last CALENDAR day of summer. So what if we were already wearing hoodies? It was technically summer :p

Personally, I can't wait until there is a viable HTC device on Verizon. At this point, I'm thinking of waiting for the HTC (insert favorite rumored name here) and getting rid of my Fascinate if we haven't gotten any progress by then. As I said earlier, I'm okay with waiting another month or so, especially if they get it right (unlike Motorola and the mess that was 2.2 for the X).

I hear ya. It just seems like another "release" date will come to pass.

Meh im not wasting$ 200 and an upgrade on the incredible hd or whatever it is...,hardware wise its not a huge upgrade...,and now that the aosp ball is rolling downhill and more is getting fixed hourly it seems...,im ok with sticking around for a tegra 2 sammy or htc in the late spring. :)

I'm with ya 100% it'll take a phone to knock my socks off to make me give up my fascinating fascinate and use my precious update haha;)

Oh, don't misunderstand... this isn't something I'm thinking about doing next week, but IF they roll out an EVO clone, and IF February or March rolls around with no Froyo... I'm jumping ship. Of course, it seems like there's no way we don't have Froyo by then, but history suggests it could happen.

yeah who knows with these updates? :(

i really need a huge upgrade though, like a tegra 2 or dual core device running 2.3 out of the box to justify upgrading though....while the inc hd or thunderbolt (whatever its called) looks nice...if its just a rehash of the desire hd...spec wise its tough to justify $200 bucks and an upgrade in my mind :o

I'm on the fence about dual-core processors with respect to their effect on battery life. I'm going to have to see some solid reviews where someone carried the unit around for a week. I could barely make it a workday with my Fascinate before I went to custom ROMs and Kernels. To sum it up: I don't really know WHAT I'm going to do, LOL

Im on record saying Im stuck on fascinate till Sept 2011, Im not paying full retail for the 1st tegra2 phone that comes by anyway. Besides, with aosp arriving in alpha status and the eventual delivery of 2.2, with 2.3 assuredly quickly to follow I'll be content enough thru the spring and summer. Besides Q3 is the current target for tegra3/4 anyway.
I know many will by Q2 be off riding some tegra2 wave maybe with honeycomb, so be it.
