***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

yeah im planning on flashing when enough gets working (which could be soon)...so then i can start porting themes!...because i have nothing better to do :)
 
The only reason I want Verizon to provide 2.2 is so our devs can have it easy and just remove all the bloat.

Either way I'm going to flash a dev ROM, not what Samsung/Verizon provides.
 
I just saw a Samsung tweet that they are releasing 2.2 for the U.S. Cellular Samsung Acclaim. Could VW be next in line? I just got the DL09 update OTA so hopefully this is all a sign of things to come.
 
The Acclaim is a renamed Intercept, which already got Froyo a couple of weeks back.

Interestingly, these devices are *not* TouchWizzed, which, yes, has caused some ordinary users to complain about the limitations of AOSP.

I'm surprised that US Cell/Cell South haven't gotten non-bloated Froyo builds out for the Mesmerize/Showcase before bloatware-demanding Verizon (and, from the March timeline, won't), but I guess the big V is in the driver's seat for i500 development.

id be interested to see how that works with the builds from samsung to the carriers....as verizon files and mentions litter the mesmorize system (and sprint litters ours....i mean sprint is mentioned at least 50 some odd times throughout files)
 
I know we all have the stories of talking to verizon.....But I had to call tech support because the DL09 update failed on my fascinate. In the discussion the tech guy said that he was talking to the android guru there and froyo should be out in less that 30 days. He said that they are releasing the updates very close to each other and not to worry about the DL09 update. Just my 2 cents.

This gives credence to the previous post where someone said there'd be a maintenance release before 2.2 to get the Fascinate in-shape to have 2.2.
 
New to this thread, think you will get a kick out of this though. I got pissed off at Samsung and decided to let them know that I was not pleased. First they tell me that 2.2 is available, and I had mentioned explicitly that it was for my VERIZON FASCINATE in an email to them and got the reply below, and then when I called to confirm that I could get it on my verizon Fascinate he also let me know that 2.2 will not have "any major updates" for the phone when it is released "if it gets released". wow, they have some winners there.
Between samsung not knowing if they are coming and going and Verizon telling me that I should go ahead and root my phone "outside of warranty coverage" I'm not sure if I picked the right carrier/phone.

I had to force my update but it is here now, I don't notice anything different except another icon on the notification bar?

Thats so damn hilarious because the market is not a fascinate market..its a google market that supplies android not a specific device but android.

This is true; I think I would rather wait until they release an iPhone that works on the LTE network. I am just bitter, because I waited for 3+ years with my Samsung i760 for the iPhone, then I gave up hope with that, then I was waiting for LTE, but when VA Beach was not one of the launch cities, I just decided to get the fascinate.

Now I am frustrated with the slow upgrade process, but I should have known better, because as it was with the i760's length of time it took to get windows 6.1 mobile, it will probably take just as long, to get 2.2, but I can guarantee that they will make us get the Bionic if we want gingerbread?

S, with understanding that telus and us are quite different, think that their source code being released will help the devs at all?

Namely punk kaos, who is just stream rolling through it either way ha.

nah, their source code isnt any more helpful than any of the others :o...its essentially a captivate that looks like a vibrant

but the lack of great source doesnt seem to be stopping them anyway :)

Absolutely not, just watching the developments he had made is incredible. I'm going to guess that we will have it for a month it two before its official release.
