Visitor: I'm wondering where Android OS 2.2 is? I bought the phone at Verizon and they told me it was on the phone, now I realize it's not.
Visitor: Guess I'll just take it back.
Visitor: Get a Motorolla
Vick: I understand that you would like to know the information regarding the Android 2.2 upgrade on the handset, am I correct ?
Visitor: that is correct
Visitor: and the fact they lied to me
Vick: Thank you for confirming.
Vick: I apologize, unfortunately there is no Android 2.2 update available at this time for your phone model, nor is there an estimated date of one being released.
Visitor: Wow. I had that on my old Motorolla droid.
Visitor: Okay thanks for your honesty. Unfortunately I'm taking it back
Visitor: I looked it up on the internet and it looks like I'm not the only one doing so.
Vick: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

there have been dozens of posts like this for the longest time....tech support or customer reps will not have the information you want about updates...and even if they do, if its not officially announced they wont tell you.

Nice, googling with your boss' phone. Shoot too bad you didnt have the alpha 2.2 on there they might have made you middle managementWhen I was doing my interview yesterday we stumbled onto phones and come to find out the girl that was doing the interview had a fascinate. So I finally ended up asking her so do you do anything to it like rooting it, which in turn she looked at me like I had 2 heads. So then I asked her if she had received the ota update. She yet again looked at me like I was crazy. She had no idea that phones even got updates, I know I was like omg too. I then showed her how to look for an update but warned her the bugs/problems with dl09, and explained a few ways to get around some. She was so excited that the job I was supposed to be taking was second shift(which I didnt want but in my situation was not going to turn down) well she started playing around in her computer and moved some stuff around and got me first shiftfirst thing I told my wife was hah being a mobile geek pays off sometimes.
But I guess my whole point in the rambling is its unbelievable how little some ppl know about their device. She was highly educated, very smart with computers, but didnt even know phones could get updates. That just amazes me.
Just be careful when it comes time to flash her Fascinate

So, back to the topicWe have T-mo and Sprint on the verge of 2.2. Does that give us any guesses as to how far away the Fascinate is? I got to thinking that since we JUST got the DL09, it would still be a while, but who knows ...
Its coming, it really is. Tmo is real. I dont doubt the sprint stuff. Our insider implies that Samsung is done with Froyo on its end. So they seem to have passed the final OTA build to VZW. Now its just a matter of time. I'll friendly wager with anyone that our official 2.2 is less than 30 days away

Its coming, it really is. Tmo is real. I dont doubt the sprint stuff. Our insider implies that Samsung is done with Froyo on its end. So they seem to have passed the final OTA build to VZW. Now its just a matter of time. I'll friendly wager with anyone that our official 2.2 is less than 30 days away
if it happens, ill be pleased (and obviously everyone else will)
but verizon could be a day away from OTA and magically decide not to do it...so we ll see what they do

Haha I don't think I'm gonna be doing that anytime soon but ya know I'll "be safe"
It's like calling microsoft customer support. They told my brother they couldn't replace his XBOX even though it got the RROD and that it was out of warranty. I called up and got a different person who then gave me no trouble and processed me through to have the xbox sent in and replaced.

I don't think that's entirely fair since the Droid line is already on 2.2 and the newer ones are on their way to 2.3.

For the droids that's true....however verizon has violated a google phone with bing and bloat in this case....and it takes time to committ crimes like that to our 2.2 update

Yeah lets get 2.2 before we start the 2.3 talk. I have to imagine GB is months off from Verizon/Sammy. The good news is on the dev side is they are already building GB and once we get the .32 froyo kernel it should be a slam dunk

Just a question as I will be running a dev froyo rom. But if a non rooter decided they didnt want dl09 and waited for froyo to release do you think that verizon would push froyo to their phone when it came out? Or would they have to take the dl09 update first? I'm mean I'm sure I can't get a def answer but what are you ideas?

Yes even if someone was on DH12 if a new OTA comes out it just overwrite the previous modem and build so yes thats no obstacle
