***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Most likely the update was the fix for gps lock issues and the softkey lights... I highly doubt you're the only person who was pushed froyo...

I think I'm going to leave this forum, all the speculation and rumors are just leading to more disappointment and aggrevation... When this thing finally gets pushed, I'll know when I receive a notice from verizon to update... And if it never comes, I'll see 3.0 on my new android by the time my upgrade comes around.

Verizon attempted to push an update to my Fascinate TWICE yesterday. Both attempts failed. Timing makes me wonder if this was a 2.2 push?

1. Attempt 1 - Rooted - Failed
2. Attempt 2 - Un-rooted, wiped to stock - Failed

Both failures complained about a missing prerequisite update.

Any ideas before I re-root?

How long have you had your Fascinate, and did you buy it new?

The "UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE reason: IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED" is common in Galaxy S devices with an earlier radio in them.

In those cases, the attempted update is not 2.2.

For what it is worth, I just talked to a second level tech. He said many things to me, and we were able to chat for nearly a half hour. I referenced the mounting issue, and said that my phone was working great until the last update. He went on to tell me that they will not be fixing the issue with another update fix, like the Ea28 emergency fix. He said they are working on, and have addressed the issue with 2.2 update. He also said it would be coming out "soon" (was hopeful for today through next couple of days, because of volume of complaints from customers). He also referenced the other galaxy phones, such as Captivate getting the update, and couldn't understand why Verizon's phones are being delayed. He seemed genuine, and was concerned about helping me out, including options. He did of course say he didn't recommend "rooting", but understood why people are becoming impatient. Don't kill the messenger, but with the above posts about Verizon, it sounds as if the ball is in Verizon's court right now. One more thing. He said that the update will come out as manual through usb and OTA. He also said that Verizon, when it's "ready", will update their website to show official 2.2 for the Fascinate.

I too have been checking every 5-10 minutes for the update. I cannot believe that with all that is going on in the world (re: Egypt, Libya, world hunger, AIDS, etc.) that Samsung and Verizon would collude and withhold the 2.2 update from PAYING customers. I have given up all hope that the update is coming on or around February 22 and some random blogs posts and news stories have noted. I have stopped eating. I have deleted my World of Warcraft account. My guild will be pissed but I just don't care anymore. My girlfriend has threatened to break up with me because I will not stop checking my phone for the update.

The worst part about all this is that Samsung and Verizon couldn't care less about their customers. With all their millions of customers, how DARE they neglect the very small percentage of people who demand an update based on rumors! This is just like how George W. Bush lied to us to go to war in Iraq. No, it's worse.

This would have been sent from my Verizon Fascinate but I threw it in my driveway and set it on fire.
lol thanks for the laugh! :D

Yes, rooted on first attempt (rooted several wks ago), but then I un-rooted before the second attempt arrived. Both attempts failed.

Firmware: 2.1-update-1
Build: SCH-I500.DI01
Baseband: S:i500.04. V.DI01

if you're on DI01 it was just trying to pull down the latest build, EA28.

Thx!

Is EA28 worth the effort to grab? I don't know of any issues with my phone, rooted or unrooted. Should I leave well enough alone and go back to my rooted bliss?

For what it is worth, I just talked to a second level tech. .....

You've got to understand that a "second level tech" at Verizon would know as much about anticipated updates for the devices they have on the floor as an assistant manager of the service department at a car dealership would know about world wide vehicle system recalls and upgrades: virtually nothing beyond shop speculation around the water cooler and at the lunch table.

It was a samsung tech. They transferred me through two people. I can only suspect they were "higher level". I don't even bother with Verizon anymore. I was originally told by a Verizon rep that we were getting 2.2 by the end of last November.

That's a little better, but not much, jmpdmh. It's still people not in the loop of decision making, and not even in the loop of information gathering for device user queries beyond some of the more simple support issues with a phone.

Updates seem like support issues to some users because those users are having issues with their phones that they're hoping will be addressed in an update at some point.

But but the techs are trained to understand a little about some device issues, but nothing in their training about updates at all, with the notable exception of how to pass the queries on to other techs.

And those other techs are not necessarily upstream; they are more likely to be just a department office manager who fields calls transferred to them by exasperated phone answering personnel.
