***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

I'm afraid I'll do something wrong. Since I'm lacking in the paycheck area, I can't just go out and buy a new phone if I screw this one up.

I'm generally happy with my phone, but there are a few features of 2.2 that I want, and I really want my SWYPE to start working normally again....not that froyo is going to fix that, but I can hope.

Even if you do happen to screw something up, which is pretty common for new rooters, you can always flash a file to get you back onto stock 2.1. All you have to do is make a backup at some point to save all your system memory.

We even have an all in one stock 2.2 file right now which would make it extremely hard to screw up :P

The epic got 2.2 and then it was pulled for bugs. Still saying vzw will be one month after sprint.

Typically Verizon is late on everything. For the sake of the non-root crowd I hope they buck the trend and surprise us. T-Mobile and Sprint are still in the lead. I'm surprised Sprint pulled theirs. Even with the unadulterated straight up leaked ROM from XDA, EB01 is more stable for me than any other rom, kernel, radio, or combination of setups I've ever tested on my Fascinate. I'm running it on two Fascinate's now - the wife's and my own. It's as stable as any phone I've ever had or tested for any amount of time.

Maybe the Epic's ROM isn't as stable as this Verizon leak, but if it is, it must be better than the stock 2.1 version.

Actually Verizon is fastest to update. Samsung is the one that's holding things up.
At least according to this.

I would've thought that it would be Verizon paired with their "golden child" Motorola.......they seem to get updates etc. fastest. HTC only updated the Incredible and what about the whole Eris debacle......and of course we all know about Samsung and the lack of updates...

....i'm still going to victim support group meets becuz of that Eris debacle, now this abuse from Samsung, i might just have to give up on cell phones all together [wouldnt that be an amazing world, one without cell phones as it once was] lol

Yep I figure that when I decide to get a new phone I'll let you all know so you will all have a heads up on what phone NOT to get because it will be the one with the worst updates and support and will be stuck on an OS that is light years behind every other phone for no real reason.....

Can I join this club? I thought I'd left my update nightmares behind when I switched from the Eris to Fascinate.

Sure you can join. As a member you too will not receive any updates for any cell phones amazing hardware or not. And both the manufacturers and the carriers will totally forget that you even exist and they will treat you like this:

^haha. man this does suck that Samsung or Verizon have totally made us a faint memory. I don't really mind bc this phone is hands down the best phone, IMO at least, that Verizon has to offer. I don't even know what 2.2 would fix. Can't add an LED notification or a louder speaker. This phone is awesome, and so sexy in white!

I agree the hardware is great....but it is more principle. I also want apps to sd, adobe (media player deal), and more speed would be nice too. We have great hardware that should be running at least a current form of software 2.2 at least, and we should get this without having to root.

Even though I do believe this and I'm a N00basaurus I am seriously considering a trip to Rootsville.

I want Apps 2 SD and Flash so I cant watch me some justin.tv when im on long drives....only on the highway of course, so i can use the cruise control..i wana be safe about it lol!

My big need for 2.2 is that I require the current version of the GMAIL app.
This has capabilities the one on the phone does not.
Without 2.2 I cannot update this app.

The new gmail allows me to reply to an email using a diff account name than the default gmail address. I have work email accounts forwarded
to my gmail (can't use phone's email setup) and I need to be able to reply to them as the account they were originally sent to.

The new gmail app allows this, but it requires 2.2

Cool. Thanks. That would be useful for me too.

Is it possible that its just the CDMA GS's that are having the froyo implication problems, i ming the epic's was pulled back Fascinates is yet to be seen yet all the GSM domestic and foreign have there updates??

The only thing that 2.2 will do for me is allow me to change the voice in Google navigation. I bought the SVOX UK English voice app for the mapping, but it wouldn't work because I'm not on 2.2.

I would like some more speed. I've got apps and widgets galore and the phone has slowed down alot.

And yes, texting while driving is worse that watching TV, but that's no reason to watch TV while driving.

I'm really wondering about Froyo for the Fascinate now (not that I need it, my Fascinate is flawless, fast and no issues).

I took a co-worker to lunch today and she wanted to go to the Verizon store to handle a Xoom and Galaxy Tab. The place was packed, and the wait was going to be 20 minutes plus, so she said just to leave her there and her husband would pick her up later on.

Well, I just got a call from her describing a conversation with the store manager, who was on the floor due to the long waits. Basically it went like this:

Cheryl: Oh, have you heard anything about the update coming to the Fascinate?

Rick: What update?

Cheryl: 2.2? Froyo?

Rick: Forget about it. We stopped asking regional about that once they told us that Samsung and Verizon could not agree on some things about it. That was last November.

Oh well.
