***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

I think if Samsung/Verizon has not upgraded this phone to 2.2 by now, they are never going to do it.

That's correct.

In other parts of our lives, we don't keep doing the same things over and over and over while expecting different results. But we seem eager to do that here, unfortunately. We need to break the cycle, turn away from the stream of lies from Verizon Wireless, and move on to a different phone from a different provider.

It's sort of like leaving an abusive relationship. :]

Well, regardless of whether official 2.2 comes to the Fascinate or not, I am now a FIRM believer that Samsung has been making a steady, albeit late, but a solid effort to make stable 2.2 Bing builds for Verizon's Fascinate. The leaks found at XDA evidence as much. Despite never ever having thought I would ever have to say this about Verizon, I now agree with your sentiment to switch carriers wholeheartedly.

To those of you singing, "I'll never buy another Samsung," that tune is a little off kilter, as Samsung has done their part, at least in my opinion. Yes, they were late, but the lion's share of blame now rests with Verizon, and I am growing continuously convinced that it is at least somewhat Bing related.

I wish with every fiber in my being I could leave Verizon RIGHT NOW. Samsung and EVERY OTHER CARRIER has come through with a 2.2 official Galaxy S device. Verizon sold a DOCK that is inoperable without 2.2 right alongside its intended phone. Regardless of folks that say, "They never said anything official, blah blah blah," that is a CLEAR implication.

People SHOULD be saying, "I'll never buy another Verizon phone with BING on it," or simply, "I'll never buy another phone with Bing on it." Verizon continues to get worse. I suggest that everyone able call and complain. :(

I tried other providers and I just don't get service anywhere with the others. Thats Verizon's stratagy. You dont need to provide the best customer service when you have the best cell and internet reception. It sucks but I like actually being able to use my smart phone every where. Even if that means they can treat me like crap. It is a catch 22

My boyfriend is always telling me the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result....much like me coming back to this thread multiple times per day thinking I'm going to see a release date for an OTA update of Froyo. :p He laughs at me almost daily! LOL

A little off topic...has anyone read about the specs on the new Galaxy S II coming out this year? I know general consensus is to not buy another Samsung, but I just recently bought a spare battery pack and the desk cradle and was wondering if it might work with the S II. Thoughts?

I'm still running my X on an old Froyo leak. With that leak it doesn't OTA anymore which seems ok. Everything works and I don't get nagged. In fact it seems to run better than the other rooted X we have in service on the latest OTA.

I think I'll just Odin my wife's to 2.2 and be done as well. It'll be rooted and I can de-Bing and de-bloat the Bing phone as a benefit. Just been to lazy to find my usb cable honestly.

I will be buying the S2. I don't think the same dock will work. And even if they are compatible on the international versions, the U.S. versions probably won't be. Kinda sucks how they seem to mess with the U.S. version of all good cell phones out there. If the U.S. galaxy S's worked with all the accessories for the international ones, we would have a plethra of stuff out there for our fascinates, but oh well.

OK, I'm going to make it happen. I have a long history of buying electronic and audio equipment that seems to be the best decision, only to have it outdated within days. A recent example - I purchased a Pioneer VSX-1020 THREE DAYS before they announced the VSX-1021 (it adds Airplay).

I just found a deal on a Droid X. It should be in my hands by the end of the week. This action ensures that the Fascinate will have Froyo by month-end. Doubt me if you must, but in the fatal last words of many a southern redneck I say:
"Hey guys, watch this!"

I've been in your same boat for years, but I combined the good coverage with what was excellent service at the time. Verizon has for years gone the extra mile to take care of me and those I know, and as a result, I've brought over 20 lines of service (close friends I hold sway over regarding techie things and family members) to Verizon's company. Until the last year or so, we have always been pleased. But even complaints not related to a 2.2 update on the Fascinate are on the rise.

Now Sprint and T-mobile claim "partner coverage" in some of the problem areas that necessitated Verizon in the first place. And my main home area is well covered. T-Mobile will eliminate themselves as an option if the merger with AT&T goes through to completion, however.

I know people have had varying experiences with different providers, and so I'm under no illusion that my own experience applies to everyone, but: I was with AT&T prior to defecting to VZW, and I never had any issues with their service. In fact, the only reason I switched away from AT&T was, ironically, because I so badly wanted the Fascinate. :)

getting closer, another new leak, can't wait for the superclean version of this one.
[ROM][Radio][4.10.11]EC01 - xda-developers

Thank you for the link! But I would caution you not to make unwarranted assumptions. We've no idea about the source of those ROMs: for all we know, the individual leaking them is developing them himself. There is no indication at all that they're representative of any official work on VZW's part or that they're suggestive of any imminent official release. There continues to be no communication from Verizon on this issue.

Some of us have been to this party before. I remember waiting on WM2003 for my Samsung i600 WM2002 phone. I even had a contact at verizon who had file access to the ROMs being reviewed by Verizon. Several versions went back and forth before VZW was happy. Then it was released. I've seen this over and over through the years.

There's no conspiracy theory here. They just take forever to get things done. I've even seen Samsung release fixes for discontinued phones. Their ship steers slowly. Verizon NEVER announces that they will be releasing something on a specific date. One day it's just there. For the newbies, that is what WILL happen. Some stuff will be fixed. Some stuff won't. Samsung can't make a GPS chip work to save their life. They never have.

Well guys I just got my Droid X in the mail today, my wife is taking over the Fascinate. I'll be watching this thread and checking for updates on her phone periodically.

To be honest, so far, I'm not as impressed with the Droid X as I thought. Yea it has 2.2 and flash and can mount on my MacBook Pro without ANY issues, but I really miss the Super AMOLED display :( I almost feel like I went from a color TV to black and white...

Who knows, I might sell it in a couple weeks and buy another Fascinate!

I would love to see what an official 2.2 update would be like on it.

I'm Just so sick of this phone freezing up, losing all sounds, and being just buggy. My wifes htc Incredible has never givin her any problems and I'm on my second fascinate.love and hate it.

Actually, you went from technicolor to actual color. The Fascinate screen colors are so over saturated it's ridiculous.

I wouldn't say ridiculous. In some cases they are over saturated, like you say, but in most video and photo viewing the colors and contrast reproduced by this phone are simply spectacular. I do a little photography on the side, and I know that often in real life colors don't "pop" quite so much, but things sure get interesting when you start enhancing them to do so.

In some situations it's annoying, like you say, and you just want a realistic picture. But I'd rather have my phone's camera and screen err on the side of more vivid colors than less vivid colors. It's pretty easy to tone them down if you need to.

The screen is just really easy to see and read in a variety of situations, and that's one of the reasons I prefer it over the Droid X I used to own.

On a side note, I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. On a thread speculating about microUSB to HDMI multimedia docks for the Thunderbolt, a poster commented this, after some discussion:

I've been told that HDMI out was an error by HTC. It seems not possible (really stupid decision.)

The dock... MIA and priced at over $50 from what I saw. Great thing for them to put the power slot on the side that is opposing the kickstand hinge because that dock is going to make such a difference..

I responded with this:
Thunderbolt Multimedia Dock, Extended Battery & Wireless Charging Battery Door Leaked

As a Fascinate owner, I bet I know what happened!!! They were sending the docks to stock the shelves and then read on the box that the dock w/HDMI outputs ONLY WORKS IN 2.3!!!

Boy, you Thunderbolt owners are sure lucky they discovered this message BEFORE they sold you the dock. :D

Couldn't help myself.

I assure you that our developers, as talented as they are, do not have the resources to develop a new radio version for the fascinate. It is certainly a leak from verizon. If you choose not to believe it that's fine. Most companies do not post progress reports on software development to the masses. Why would they communicate anything until there is a release ready?

About a month ago I updated my dads vibrant to the official froyo release from tmob. It involved downloading an image file and the mini kies bootloader. There's no ota on tmob.

10 minutes with the odin loader and an image file just got me the same thing for the sf. I was expecting something more complicated like on the locked moto or htc phones.
gotta give props to Samsung for making rom loading so simple. Odin wiped the phone where kies didn't though. Not a big deal.

Yeah, the Fascinate is pretty dang easy to flash and recover if need be. It's quite a resilient phone with a lot of potential. Regardless of Samsung's tardiness on updates (they were pretty late getting froyo to all galaxy S variants in Verizon, and obviously even later with Verizon), thy have produced an impressive device from a hardware standpoint, and a high potential and open device on the software/development standpoint as well. Overall I'm still glad to own one, but I know I wouldn't be as glad without Froyo SuperClean ROMs. Verizon needs to release something to Fascinate users. I hate Verizon right now ... I sorely wish I had another option.

brug -- no, of course not, and obviously not from scratch. Am I wrong that both of the latest versions of leaked firmware were in fact being developed for the Mesmerize, a phone similar enough to the Fascinate that with a few tweaks from Adrynalyne they functioned just fine, but were -not- apparently developed for the Fascinate itself? I've heard this from more than one source over there and was curious.

As for the communication thing, if you think it's normal to assure your customer base that a product will be ready "no later than" a specific date, and then go 4 months beyond that date without any substantive update or explanation, we're just going to have to agree to disagree.
