Root One Click Root For The Desire?

My yet to root view is that if the radio works fine with the custom ROM I won't be changing it as it seems to increase the risk of a brick for what appears little gain (to my inexperienced eyes)

In on T-Mobile with an unbranded Desire running 2.2 and I can't say I've noticed any dip in battery performance since having access to Orange's network. Could be down to network strength in our respective locations though.

Have you upgraded your radio yet Johnny Bravo?

one of my main reasons for rooting and upgrading from 2.1 is for improved battery life, and I feel the radio is the key to this. I'm about to embark reading up on which radio is which now. I'm on T-Mobile in the UK, and it may be my imagination but since I signed up to receive Orange's mast signal, I've experienced worse than normal battery life.

Not yet mate.

I'm yet to even try the radio. I'll probably check it out tomorrow. Everything else works on the phone flawlessly so far.

I'm pondering what to do with the battery etc, as I've read about methods of calibrating it on XDA forums in the thread for the ROM.

see in my (also inexperienced) eyes, I can see more value in upgrading the radio than even in rooting, I gather it's a firmware update for the internal hardware of the phone, so you'd hope they tweak stuff to make it perform increasingly well.

Can I ask a question please: Do I need to partition my sd card using ROM manager before I install a new rom? I am thiniking of using Modaco R9 rom?

thanks, I was looking at the list of features for this Modaco Rom here and I can't tell if its A2SD+ or just A2SD standard, do you know at all please?

wonder if I could have some help please? I may have done something stupid here but I did the partitions on the SD card as 512Mb and 0Mb swap, then went to recovery and wiped data and davlik cache, then tried to boot my image from the SD card, but it says there's no data on my SD card?! Did I wipe it?

EDIT: Just tried booting up generally and it's as it was at factory settings so i've not got a brick, although I'm now confused as to whether or not I've lost root etc....

do you think i should restore the ROM manager app from Titanium then re partition and have aother go without wiping any data?

I FTP'd across the LeeDroid zip file, will I do any damage if I try to install it from recovery now?

EDIT: I feel my SD card is still partitioned correctly, as my SD and phone storage menu reports 3.19GB total space when its a 4GB card?

All you've done is wipe data. Nothing to do with your partition. You can't easily get rid of it so don't worry about that ;)

What stage are you at? Have you flashed Rom of choice? If not, do. You don't need Rom manager for that. Just turn off phone, hold vol down plus power to get into recovery.

However if you are more comfortable with Rom manager, yeah restore it via titanium.

Don't forget to use flash clockwork recovery from menu though.

Once Rom flashed, restore what you can from titanium. Or star a fresh :)

right thank you - I don't know which part of the process I got wrong to delete the image from my SD card  but i'm currently at a factory rom, but rooted. I've now put a lee droid rom on my card in zip format, and will restore it using the recovery mode after i've picked my wife up later. She won't be happy if I miss her call as i'm messing about with roms :p

The other failure which i'll have to read up on later is that I couldnt seem to get my Titanium to restore anything, it didn't make it obvious where I should put all the backup files it created.

I got a good nagging from my missus for missing her call while I was flashing ROMs the other day! :o

Titanium backs up to your SD card, in a folder called Titanium Backup. Hopefully you didn't wipe that without backing it up to your PC if before you partitioned?

Did you back up your SD card to your PC? If so, drag that folder back to your SD card and it should be there when you attempt to restore whatever it is you are restoring. :)

yes I did back up before I partitioned, I just couldnt figure out where to restore the Titanium Backup files to though.

I must be doing something wrong here, I just tried to flash the ROM from recovery, and got the message "Can't open /sdcard/LeeDrOiD_v2.2f_A2SD.zip (bad) installation aborted

any ideas please? Assuming a corrupt rom? I downloaded from Lee's site

Yeach. Corruption in zip. Re download

OK thanks, tried it twice by downloading on my windows box then ftping it across to the phone and its twice failed, the FTP transfer must be breaking it, so i'm accessing Lee's Drop Box site direct from my phone now, pretty cool how fast the Desire can download stuff.

EDIT Actually I take that back, it's pretty slow now :(

EDIT 2 : finally downloaded, it's got further than it has before!! Worry time as my Desire is in the hands of a custom ROM! :D

OK can I have some advice please? I installed the ROM, I got Formatting Boot, Writing Boot, Installation Complete....but it only took like 1 minute? Do I dare reboot? It took way longer on the videos above....

EDIT : maybe I'm panicing a little too much, I chose to reboot as he did in the videos and it's taking it's time now as expected. I'm such a worry wort.

EDIT 2: I was all worrying too much! all done! sweet!! thanks loads to JB and danfrance for keeping me cool!

Glad you got it sorted, mate!

For the record, mine didn't take as long as the video either. The R2D2 sound frightened the life out of me. I like the old school Spectrum/Amstrad/C64 loading screen as well! :D
