When GB OTA comes out, do you think if I sbf back to .340 and d/l the ota, gingerbreak will be able to root it?

I would think it would work. The app wasn't developed specifically for the X, but on the other hand, Moto has had time to adjust the OTA sense Gingerbreak was released. I'll stick with a yes, it will work. Just my uneducated guess. lol. I would be willing to give it a shot.

besides I haven't known rooting your phone to ever actually brick the device. It either works or doesn't and if it doesn't you can just sbf back.

I dunno, anything said on the subject right now is just blind speculation because we have no idea of what moto has in store for us. They could continue to be the female dogs they are and block the exploit even though its for GB in general or they could have not bothered and be somewhat decent for a change.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on rooting the official OTA. Motorola can close the hole that Gingerbreak exploits and they can change the bootloader version so that there is no going backwards.

Do I think it will happen? Not really. I believe that we are all using nearly the same version as the OTA right now. If this May 10th or 13th date holds true, there simply isn't the time to make big changes. I haven't seen the file dates in .591, but I wouldn't doubt if this is the version that was sent to Verizon for final approval.

Another thing to consider is Moto's claim of releasing devices with the unlocked bootloader. IF they do this, I would imagine rooting exploits wouldn't be a concern for them anymore.

But you never know. We're just gonna have to wait and see what happens when the OTA starts hitting the masses.

I think the GingerBreak root exploit is supposed to work for HoneyComb too...(so, I'm cautiously optimistic that it should break through the GB walls too).
