OT: Anyoneconsidering the iPhone or stick with Android

Now that the iPhone has been announced for Verizon, i'm curious if anyone is\will consider switching out their Android phone for an iPhone?

Believe it or not, I have never seen an iPhone. Android is all I know when it comes to smart phones so I don't know what i'm missing with regards to an iPhone. That means I will probably stay with an Android based phone for a long time since I sort of understand how it works and how to manipulate what an Android phone can do.

Sadly Im considering getting an iPhone. Bryan will hate me if I make that decision.

iPhone seems to run better and smoother and has better games and Apps. Android on the other hand is developing really fast and so far my experience with LG Ally is horrible as the phone sucks. I think I will have to wait for the thunderbolt and go to the VZW store and test both, iPhone and Thunderbolt. And price will certainly be a factor too.

The phone doesn't suck. It just sucks for you because you want it to do more than it is capable of. If you use it within it's limits, it works great, at least it has for me since June.

Well, I guess if you got an Ally, and expected it to be an iPhone, then yeah: The Ally would suck by comparison. It's processor is half the speed, half the RAM, and it's screen is smaller.

However, if you got the Ally, realizing it's an entry-level smart phone, I think you'd be well off.

My ally lags on everything. Menu and stuff. I can check email and IM and text, maybe tether. Thats it. Otherwise it Laggs like crazy on web pages, angrybirds lags like crazy ect. So yeah I think it sucks. Sure say it "isnt supposed to do that", I dont care. I think it sucks anyway.

Obviously compairing an iPhone to an Ally is a bit of a stretch but my old iPod touch that had lower specs then my ally still played games smoother.

I think in the end I will probably get the Tundabowl but at the moment the iPhone seems like a good option too.

I refuse to bite the Apple.

And my Ally works just the way I want it to most of the time. No phone, not even the iPhart works flawlessly. Maybe especially not the iPhart.

Just sayin'...

No simultaneous Voice and data(CDMA Limitation), No 4G should = No iPhone.

My dad owns an iPhone and I've messed around with it some, but I prefer the Android OS personally. I am due for an upgrade in June, so it will be at the prime time to pick one of the newer high-end Android phones with 4g capabilities.

Most likely a new high end Android. I love rooting around and tinkering. Also the warranty on Apple products doesn't seem to good.

My daughter works for ATT Customer Service. She said that the Apple iPhone 4 is very poorly made and that a single accidental drop on to a carpeted floor is often all it takes to break it. If you do decide to get the iPhone, make sure you get the insurance for it too.

I don't like the iOS on the Apple products. I had the iPod Touch, and I had to jailbreak and manipulate my iPod just to get it to do the things my Ally could out of the box. A lot of that is the fault of Apple and the App Store, but Apple likes to keep a lot of things hidden. For example, the iPod Touch 2g had bluetooth, but it was disabled until quite a few months later, when they released an update to the os that enabled it.

I just couldn't go back to a company that hides things from their customers, then later on calls it an addon.

My girlfriend and some mates have the iphone, so I've had a play. But I'm glad I went for droid. Apple is too restricted, even setting a Mp3 as a ringtone you have to mess about with itunes. Every 1 I know with iphone has seen my android and all of them have said that they will not get an iphone again. ANDROID ALL THE WAY.

I'm sticking with Android hands down! It's already said that the iPhone doesn't compare to Verizon's upper line of Android devices they have now. Just imagine when the new phones are released. I guarantee the Thunderbolt and Droid Bionic would destroy the iPhone as far as performance. I love Mac computers, don't get me wrong, I have a 2nd gen Mini right now. But when it comes to modding an OS, you can't beat Android!

This..Exactly.
EVERY single person I know that has or has had an iPhone has had to replace at least 1 due to screen breakage. Some of these people really baby their phones too. Inexcusable build quality and lack of durability in a daily use environment tells me alot about Apple.
Android=open source
Apple=open your wallet.

I used to like iProducts, Still have my iPod Touch 2g (waiting for android support for it.) But ever since i have gotten my Ally. It has turned me into an Android freak :D. Sure we may all may have gotten a low end phone but i know for some of us it has taught us alot. Using android and adb shell/terminal emulator has even given me a new found love for linux. It has now become may main OS of choice and i no longer run windows. I just love just about everything that i can do with android/linux and if i didnt get the Ally i probably wouldn't have known any of it.

This is a bit off-topic response-wise, but there is 1 reason in particular I have never switched to Linux over Windows - Netflix. Since we don't have cable or any other form of TV, Netflix is my primary source of entertainment. And because Netflix has insisted on using Silverlight and DRM for their streaming content, that's a Linux deal-breaker.

id get one but its too expensive for an out of contract prices... plus i hate paying for app store bs... they both basically run off of a form of Unix anyway...
if you buy an iphone you will probably miss out on some killer phones in the near future that have nvidia tegra cpus they run fast and use very little power, on avg a video decoded with the ally's cpu would tun at 80% load....on the tegra about 4%... and dont forget iphone4 has no 4g...

Exactly. The main purpose behind buying an android was the customization. And the updates are amazing. Wouldnt you rather recieve free updates then buy a new phone every year. Not biting the apple is the best thing possible....

I'm sticking with android and here are a few reasons why.

1. Censorship. Steve Jobs has no business shoving his political agenda down my throat. I may even agree with Job's politics but that doesn't mean I want him dictating to me what is and is not ok, I will make up my own mind thank you very much.

2. Hardware. The iphone 4 has issues not the least of which is the actual ability, or lack there of, to make phone calls. Maybe it's just me but my primary use of my phone is to make and receive calls, everything else is icing on the cake. If I wanted an mp3 player that just happens to make calls as a secondary function, then I would consider the iphone.

3. Open source. If there was no other reason to have an android it would be the nature of the operating system. The wider the base of options and third party access the better a device you can have. There isn't anything the iphone can do that the android can't do and most of the time it will do it better.

I've used the iphone and once you get past the "it" factor you realize that you are paying a whole lot more for a whole lot less. You might look good in those jeans but if they aren't comfortable you aren't doing yourself any favors.
