OTA Update Starting today?

apparently you didn't notice the 15 other thread on the top about updates :(

getting the update is old news now everyone can install it.

quit being a douche ...... smartass comments are much more unnecessary than a guy asking a question that has been asked . Really how productive are YOU being . first by bumping the same thread you have a problem with to the top again(counterproductive), second you didnt even answer the mans question. You internet police kill me , get over yourself.

i didn't bump it, it was already on the top :)

thanx to the mods for merging threads BTW. just can't stand it when people can't even take 5 seconds to look at the current topics on the top lol. i would be more sympathetic if they had to dig at least 1 page back but these topics are all on the top!

I just caught up on this thread.. What were we supposed to be talking about?

:D

YES!!!!! Youtube is fixed on the main page with the default content, YAY!!!!

Yup new lock screen... yay

Animations on switching screens is the same, but I NEVER had a jerky screen... I'll let the rest of you all figure everything else out :) Seems good so far!

Do you mean YouTube on the web browser or on the application?

Need a homescreen snoot?

Reason: Unrelated to the topic at hand and image was huge.

Quick question, will rooting the device affect further updates (ie. Android 2.1 in Jan) or be affected by updates?

Or even receive the update to start with?

Edit: Sorry, probably wrong thread. But if you can answer, that'd be great ;)

If you root you will no longer get update notifications (at least that's what the dudes who are familiar with rooting have said).

You'd need to get and install a custom ROM based on the 2.1 (or whatever) update...

Do you think this manuall update is trust worthy ? Is it possible that someone could have altered its contents ?

I didn't download the version that's on rapidshare or the other file sharing sites. The actual link to the update on the Google servers is floating around. If you download that one directly from Google, it's going to be the same update that your phone is going to get from Verizon.

I downloaded the version from the links on the main page of phandroid and everything seems to be working.

The only issue I have right now is call volume.

So I just got my phone lastnight (love it more then an BB) but it seems I still haven't gotten the update so perhaps I'm thinking its just gonna take some time to show the update, considering I've only have had it for less then 24 hours..I checked to make sure my phone didn't come with the new OS but it still says 2.0.. any opinions why I didn't get the update?

Thanks, Shawn

Probably because you weren't a part of the small minority of owners who received the update. More are coming during the remaining days of this week.

Yeah I am still waiting for my update as well. Not sweating it though because I was already mentally planning to wait til Friday so it's all good. Of course i could jump on the bandwagon and manually apply the update but why bother. My Droid is awesome now and will be awesome x2 come Friday! :)

Great attitude!!! I also think the phone is pretty darn good before the update.. I think people expect WAAAAAYYYY too much from a smartphone and especially considering the fairly new software matched to a fairly new phone design.. Of course I am excited about the update but I am still getting used to the phone the way it is and learning what works for me and doesnt.. People need to relax a little..

well awsome i seem to be the first person to not be able to get it to install :(

here is wha ti get

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted

i just did mine and got the same message 3 different times, i trying again.

I installed it earlier today without errors. I downloaded the file to my notebook computer first. I renamed the file "update" (without the quotes). I hooked up the phone to my computer and copied the file onto the SD card in an open space. I followed the directions for restarting and installing and it worked perfectly.
