excellent review.Well, received mine today and have a bit of time to use it. So, first impressions:
Does add a bit more bulk to the phone, not too much but noticeable to me. Protection vs sleekness - always a trade off but this seems to be the best of both worlds. I don't know for sure yet on this one - but it definitely has a more solid feel to it now that I think I like.
It's kinda slick with the final plastic layer on. Those who prefer more 'grip' may not like this. You could use it without this final layer so it's just the rubber - I was curious about this myself -but the sides are little 'floppy' - not a real tight fit around the sides of the phone with rubber layer only. On the other hand, those who like their phone to slide easily in and out of pockets will be pleased with the 'slickness' this final layer adds.
The exposed rubber parts are a real lint magnet. Don't like this. I wonder if there's any kind of spray on the market to repel lint on rubber.
I love the rubberized volume controls! I just couldn't come to grips with the design of the non-descript ones on the phone - they weren't definite feeling. With the OB on, they are solid, definite and not 'loosey-goosey'. When you hit the Vol + or - buttons, you know it's the right button.
The bottom lip. Mmmm. I thought at first the lip was too high and wondered why it was designed this way. Well, the good folks at OB seem to really know what they are doing. This lip has proved to be a godsend. It's especially useful for those of us who like one-handed operation. I hated maneuvering my thumb to hit the red 'end call' button. With the raised bottom lip it gives your thumb a place to grip and rest solidly while maneuvering to other buttons/trackball and without the the feeling that the phone is going to go flying out of your hands. Very nice feature!
Feel of vibration mode seems to be reduced as I suspected. Rubber will do this. That's why it's used to dampen floors and walls in recording studios. Feels more like a 'buzz' now, instead of a vibration. Time will tell on this.
Don't seem to have the problem with the usb port and headphone jack plugs that n2imagination has with his Eris version. Yes, the usb plug at first was a little odd to get to stay put, but once you figure out the correct angle to insert it, it stays put just fine. No problem prying the headphone jack plug open either - YMMV.
Well that's my 'I'm definitely a real nerd' review. Overall, very pleased!
I will post pics tonight if none are up by then. Happy, guys?

awesome. looks like ill be placing an order.
one question though, does the part of the protector on top of the screen and under the ear piece block or make it difficult to open the notification "window"?

I ordered mine Fri @ 10:45 am and as of this morning I still had no shipping info. I called and they told me it was on backorder. sucks

Just checked with Otterbox, they have no plans to offer a clip for the Hero, so they don't get my business.
