Root [[OUTDATED THREAD]] NEW BOOTANI...NO MORE HELLO HELLO HELLO!!!!! Links fixed

I know it's kinda lame and all, but I am working on an adb assisted application that will push and pull the sounds and animations. I also did quite alot of research on the startup files. They are compressed zip files in a qmage codec file. Each image is png or jpeg and has 80% compression. Each image has it's own xml information about duration and size. But once I am done. I will release this little app and have it do everything oh so nice for you guys. I am also reading on the source for the kernel of the admire. I downloaded the whole lot of code and am reading it. I might be able to do some things. Lets hope.. Right? FYI.. I do know C++ and have prior experience with android programming. I might release something for you guys soon.

YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN SOUND AND REPLACE THE HELLO.....HELLO... HELLLO.... TO YOUR OWN SOUND. HERES HOW....

1) Locate the metro start up sound in /system/etc/poweron.wav

2) You can delete for no sound or delete and maker your own sound, and make sure if its mp3 to convert to .wav

3) Then from your sd card you put your new .wav sound back where you deleted the original metro sound (poweron.wav)

4) Make sure your new sound is renamed to poweron.wav!!! or else it wont work.

again just make sure your new file is .wav and the original is deleted and named poweron.wav. (I put AK47 gun shots on my starup sound plus the bootanimation!! pretty cool) thanks for the bootanimation Aboatright.

I'm just going to leave this here for now. I hope you start thinking people.

it is possible to change bootanimations..I'm still fiddling with it but no more hello hello hello....hell no!! after I try this new file I will post my results.

stay tuned same admire time....same admire channel

then let's change it....download this file and place it in system/media..but make sure you rename the original to bootani.qmgbak. change owner and group to root.
change permissions to match the original bootani.qmg
reboot and metro is gone....replaced with a nice new Samsung logo...the bootanimation is next..
the one I loaded isn't working right...you can see the animation but it's the wrong configuration.....I'll get it though.sit tight

How do you convert a file from .mp3 to .wav because, when I changed the files (mp3) to .wav at the end ; upon boot it just plays static.

same here sounds all scratchy and when you try and play it on root explorer it says this player does not support this file. is a wave sound file the same as wav. ?

You can't just rename. You have to open the mp3 in an audio converter or editor, like audacity and export as a .wav. And yes, a wave file is a .wav...

i get it i have tried 2 different converters mp3 to wav. will not play on phones media player. i could be wrong. so if you could download the driooood mp3 change it wav and post it in wav format so it will work on the samsung admire show me. or maybe im just using the wrong type of converter.

sorry if im a noob but if some one can tell me the right program to convert a mp3 to a .wav that works on the phone and not just a wav file that you took from a different samsung phone. maybe share the process that would be great.

hmmm i'll retry with a converter then. I did however before reading this post go online and download a wave file ( a metalgear solid clip of snake talking) and pasted it in the correct directory. double checking to make sure the permissions were changed as well as the owner. All it played was static on boot. Im assuming it might have something to do with the clip being longer than 4.0 seconds. The metropcs clip was only 4.0 seconds . so do you think that the clips duration is the problem? Also has anyone had any success with getting the samsung logo that appears before your launchers main home screen? if we could move that also it would be aesthetically pleasing, as having two samsung screens seems a little redundant.any help is appreciated.

nope thats not it if you put a wav file on the sd card it wont play when you open it with root explorer has nothing to do with time. i beat the one that was posted came from a samsung. i think there are more than one type of wav files. any thoughts ???
