Root PANIC: Major Problem

My phone was acting up so I cleared Cache and Dalvik X3. Now when it boots it only goes to background screen. Interestingly it shows signals for phone and WiFi. I tried to do a nandroid restore, but it starts and then I get message : "Oops... Something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!" [Where is recovery log?]

What can I do!!!

[I tried to call the phone and it rings, but there is no way to answer it. I tried to connect to the computer, but it does not show as a drive - no way to identify as drive.]

Sucks about the nand backup not restoring. Do you have the means to get your rom onto the SD card? Maybe worst case just reflash it in recovery. There are certainly other options on the table also but that may be the most simple.

Can power on with volume down to get to recovery, BUT cannot do nandroid restore (or find the log mentioned in the error note)!

What I'm suggesting is...pull the back cover off, pull battery, remove SD card. Place the SD card in a card reader, laptop with a built-in SD slot, etc. Of course you need a micro SD adapter sleave as well. Then using a computer, download your current rom or any similar rom and move it onto the SD card. Then place the card back in the phone, go into your custom recovery and load the rom.

Sounds to me like you have a bad nandroid. It happens, so make sure you have more than 1

wipe dalvik cache, cache, and reflash your ROM on top of itself. You will not lose data and this should fix your issues with the ROM.

if you can try restoring again and then right after go into your recovery and have the recovery log moved to your sd card. the option should be under advanced in the main menu. you can then pull it up using a file manager. report back what it says.

in recovery also you can try hooking the phone up to the computer. in the main menu it is the usb-ms toggle(amon ra2.3). sometimes it works better in recovery then you are booted up as disk drive.

and as long as you have recovery you should be ok.

Make sure also that it's not your card having an issue. As far as the wipe it sounds like to me something else happend. Also why wipe cache / dalvic 3x? This is something normally done in between ROMS. IF your using CWM then you should go with Amon RA and not have to question your wipes! If you are on Amon RA then no need to wipe as such on a ROM only in between ROMS

Moved the log to SD card, but the computer (Apple) does not identify the card/drive.

I took the phone to a new Sprint store, and the tech was agreeable to try to flash it (told that rooted). He tried several things, but everything kept aborting while trying to do their thing.

Since I need a working phone, I got the new EVO LTE. Interestingly, when they put my card into it, the new phone was able to download the gallery and some app data that I recognized.

Would still like to get the EVO 4G puppy up and running!

Any and all help appreciated!

So it can't flash anything?

Since you are able to get to recovery this should be pretty easy to get going again

and each time you get the oops something went wrong error? what recovery do you have? what is your hboot? what roms have you tried?

Try flashing a different ROM. A bad ROM download combined with a bad backup could explain your issues.

You should be able to run an RUU to get you back up and going just fine as well.

Help: How do I get the ROM and RUU since I cannot connect the phone to the computer.

Also how do I run them?

Also need a suggestion since the card is now in my new EVO LTE from which my gallery etc are being read. Should i get another card and copy everything?

Sorry for causing such problems for you folks. All of your help/assistance is greatly appreciated!

Also, which ROM is recommended to replace MikG? [I just tried to download the MikG 3.11 full wipe, but the link is not working]

you can download the files directly to your phone. and you can use a file manager to move the file over to the root of the card(not in any folder) and either flash or use the ruu in the bootloader to get you back to stock.

and please never be sorry for questions. no such thing as too many. this is a forum after all. so please ask away.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I cannot do anything with the phone - other than get to recovery. I can put a ROM onto a blank card and then put that into the phone. Which ROM should I use (sense) and how do I get and use a RUU?

then you will need to get a card reader or try connect the phone on a pc to get access to the phone's sd card.

ok a ruu (rom upgrade utility) is how your phone updates itself. the are two forms of a ruu. one you can run on a computer (though not a mac) and the other is in the form of a PC36IMG file. a ruu basically is a stock rom and recovery. this will not unroot you, however.

in order to get one that will work, we need to know what is your hboot. so power off then press and hold power+vol down. once in the bootloader at the top will be the hboot version and also the baseband. report back with those and i will see what ruu will work for you. if that is the route you want to go.

I shall do whatever you instruct. I have great faith in you. Try to keep it simple/easy for me though.

I have the original 2GB card and I can put the files onto it? If all is successful than I can place the 16GB partitioned card I was using. OR should I get a new card and start from scratch??

Supersonic EVT-2 Ship S-OFF
hboot 2.10.0001
Touch Panel- ATMELC03
Radio- 2.15.00.12.19

original 2g card? it comes with an 8g card not 2. that could be your issue. the evo has issues with 2g cards.

also if you really want to use a ruu. one suggestion is to downgrade your radios. you have the latest radios which is for 4.67 and this will change your hboot and could lock it up, and leave it with s-off which would be weird. but here it is:RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3

here is the radio i would downgrade to PC36IMG_EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19.zip

once you downgrade the radio then you can use this ruu:PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1

do you know how to use PC36IMG files?

Sorry, I have an extra 2GB card. I'll load the files you sent onto the 8GB card. In what order do I flash them and how do I use the use PC36IMG files?

Also, can I transfer the [free] information (apps and Data) that I had on the EVO 4G's card to the new LTE?

just to be sure using a ruu will turn your phone back to stock with a stock recovery and rom. you will need to put a custom recovery back on if you want to flash roms. you will still have s-off as well.

so like i said earlier i would use the 4.54 ruu by downgrading your radios first.

so first you want to downgrade your radios. before we do charge the phone fully and also make a nandroid backup and make sure that you have wimax backed up (there is a small possibility of loosing 4g).

1.rename the file to PC36IMG. do not add an extra .zip as windows hides extensions.
2.move the file to the root of the sd card (not in any folders)
3.go into the bootloader. power off then press and hold power+vol down
4.if it is named correctly and on the card then the bootloader should find it and ask for you to update, select yes (vol up).
5. now whatever you do DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY OUT. this will brick your phone for sure. also make sure that the battery cover is on so that the battery does not fall out.

now connect the phone via usb and in recovery select usb-ms toggle. now do the following:
1. rename the PC36IMG ruu you downloaded earlier to just PC36IMG. again no extra .zip
2.move it to the card
3.go into the bootloader and let it update
congrats you now have 4.54 stock installed!!!!!

not sure why you want to go this route, but there it is.

Thanks for the info. At the present I can only get to recovery (Vol down plus
power button). I have a nandroid made about a week earlier and WiMax backup also on the same card.

I am clueless as to how this happened or how to get out of the mess, SO I'll follow the guidance of those that know more than me.

Placing the phone on charge now, so will be able to try the repair later in the afternoon.

If I'm understanding everything correctly, the fact that you're using a 2GB card might have been your only issue. Your same backups and files etc might work just fine on the 8 GB card.

Don't forget that you can move files to and from your SD card if you have access to recovery (which you said you do). In RA 2.3, just enable USB-MS Toggle and you're good to go.

No, I have NOT used a 2GB micro SD card. I only mentioned it as a possible way to convey files. I had been using a 16GB partitioned card.

Sorry for the confusion!
