You might be best off to try flashing a compatible kernel first the more I think about it. The fact that it boots to the splash screen (I assume that's what you meant in the OP) leads me to believe the boot.img is to blame. I mean it's worth a shot because if that works, you wouldn't lose any of your data and you'd be on the same rom as before.
If that didn't do the trick, I'd try a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik) and flash a custom rom from recovery as the second option. And if that failed, then you could consider the RUU. No real reason to go to that extreme yet IMO since you appear to have a functioning custom recovery still.
You ever flashed a rom or kernel directly from RA? I've generally used Clockwork on my devices but I think the menu choices are quite similar if not nearly identical. So if you place the kernel or rom (zip file, leave fully zipped) on the sd card, then go into recovery using the power + volume down routine, then you can flash it like this:
-install zip from sd card
-choose zip from sd card
(find your kernel or rom, select and flash it)
-reboot to system
