PCA section's rules

I'm having issues with this sections (or forum) rules. I believe the Politics section rules needs to have some more leeway on what can be said and be separate from the rest of the forum. I'm getting warnings and being put on probation for calling someone "foolish". That is ridiculous. Maybe some one other than a normal moderator can do something about this and modify the rules somewhat. It's not like I told someone to go f-themselves.

The other issue is that my post was sitting there for over 24 hours before one of the moderators decided it was not okay with "him". Meaning that the thread went on with many other moderators looking in and posting and they did not see fit to do anything about the post in question. That means that some moderators are more sensitive than others and the rules are open to interpretation. Once again, the Politics section needs just a bit more leeway when talking about these kinds of subjects.

Simply put, the rules of the forum as a whole are simple. Treat others with respect. Most everything else falls under that category.

As far as the PCA section; we, as staff, tend to be a bit more lenient. That being said, debates really do need to occur without name-calling and other childish behavior.

I'm not sure specifically which item you are referring to this time, but I'm sure if you forwarded the information on to the forum admin, Phases, he would be happy to review it for you.

Edit: After taking a quick glance at the infraction you are referring to, the post was NOT a discussion of the issue at hand but rather a discussion of a USER. Calm and reasonable discussion of issues are allowed.

I'll just wait for him to post here if he sees this and decides to. Also. the suggestion box is so far down the forum and hardly seen, I really wish you would have left it in the Politics section (since this is about that section) and the regular posters there could see this and respond. It's probably going to never be seen here.

We like to keep things organized. In order for any changes to occur that you WANT to actually happen, the admin will need to see it.

The link to this will remain in the PCA section for a full 24 hours. Most of the regulars will see it within that time. :)

Yes, that's why I'm posting and trying to slightly change the rule. My comment was mild. You guys are going to end up chasing off decent people because you're too sensitive.

One of the mods may not have found it offensive, it could have been reported by another member or the user it was directed at. The Mods are generally pretty open minded, but if a member reports something and has an issue with what's said, they generally have to take action.

I understand the politics section has the potential to get a little heated, but calling someone foolish, regardless of what you think of them (and there are definitely worse insults), isn't really appropriate.

Just my 2p's worth.

Edit - Oh well, a load was posted in the space of time it took me to post this :o

Reported or not, someone did have to make the judgment to do something or let it go. The other issue is that the guy who reported it probably reported it because he didn't like my view on the subject, not because of the comment. The comment was sitting there for over a day, and no all of a sudden he's offended? He saw it and posted without reporting for a day.

If you would like to discuss the infractions, feel free to PM any of us (including the admin). If we start discussing the infractions here it will distract from the ultimate reason you created the thread (the discussion of reforming the PCA and Forum Rules).

Just keep in mind that while this is a public forum, it IS privately owned and that all the rules and guidelines are the rules that the OWNER of the site has put in place. :)

We have around 900 forums here, there are about 15 I "favorite" and read every post that is placed in it. This is one of them - politics is not. This is the appropriate place for this thread. :)

It's true, much of what is done around here is based on mod discretion. Many let some things slide until reported, as it is best to choose your battles wisely in a community like this.

Should it always be that way? Maybe. Maybe not. None of us are perfect here and we all do our best.

It is true respect is our #1 rule and the goal is to keep this place the friendliest we can. We do a pretty good job. Some people think we're over bearing and run off, but the majority (I would sure like to think and am led to believe anyway) appreciate it.

There are times where I see reports and actions taken on members and feel they are not deserved, and revert it. For the most part our staff does well though.

As for your particular case, I haven't looked at it. Sure, calling someone "foolish" on the surface doesn't sound immediately probation worthy - but look at your post history. (I have not, just saying)

Is there some chance it's the result of several things on that thread or outside combined that have accumulated in staff mind, therefore worthy of an infraction?

Anyway. We do try to be more lenient in that section. It IS hard to deal with for our staff for that very reason. Discussion on this pops up time and time again since many of our mods hate the section because of the difficulty dealing with the gray area and trying to all be on the same page.

We we surely talk on it again.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, please, do some actual looking in to it and see if that section can be treated slightly different, even if it has to be locked and users who specifically want to view that forum have to ask to be able to see it.

Obviously nothing is going to change, so we can discuss other things here. How long is the probation? Not being able to edit my posts for spelling errors is rather irritating.

Just my two cents, politics are a highly polarized and hotly debated issue in this country right now. People are going to get ugly with each other to some extent and tempers are going to run high. We don't even see our own political politicians treat each other with respect, how are forum members expected not to cross lines they wouldn't normally cross in other forms here sometimes? Nothing about politics is going to be "laid back" now days.

Perhaps the site and it's members would be better off without a political forum?

Well, I moved my couch out to clean and found another two cents so here it goes.

Just to add to my above post, if the zero tolerance policy were spread evenly across every forum here I think almost everyone who has posted to some of the threads in the Forum Games section would be on "double super secret probation" at some time or another, but sometimes the section and circumstances need to be taken into consideration.

We we surely talk on it again.

So please, fill me in on all the major conversations that have been going on about this. I know you wouldn't have just posted the same old corporate response of "we're looking onto it" just for the sake of posting it. Looking forward to hearing about his.

If we decide to change anything, I will be sure to let you know.

Regardless, if you just remain respectful in every post you make, you won't have issues.

Thanks.

I'm going to go ahead and just post whatever I feel the need to post at any point in time. If the people here feel the need to sensor the hell out of everything and edit/delete peoples posts all the time, then I guess I have no choice but to deal with it until I'm banned (and I will be banned). It's just not possible to have and post in a politics section and have someone constantly behind you waiting to edit everything you say. You guys might get lucky and not run off the entire forum, good luck.

C'mon Tom,

You know better than that. Just do what phases said. As a personal point of wisdom (yes, I'm older and able to impart wisdom and should respected for it), it takes more intelligence to express one's opinion in an articulate and respectful manner, rather than just blurting out verbal spew. The former is more winsome.

Personally, I'd rather see you around and hear your opinions, rather than say g'bye to you. I assure you, if we have to "ban" you as you put it, we will. We are entrusted with the well-being and stewardship of the entire forum and we will do our duties with due diligence.

Just keep in mind that this is ANDROID forums and not a political based forum.

So true! As I have suggested here before, I think Android Forums would be better off without a political section and concentrate on what it dose best (cover all things Android) and leave the politics to CNN, FOX, and MSNBC.

I have a bit of disagreement with that, because Android users are not just Android users, they are also quite likely to be tax payers, voters, activists, military personnel, sexual orientation minded (gay marriage? etc).. and on.

Once here, usually because of that Android device they own or are about to own, they discover a community of diverse minded members, and many participate in it actively.

For those reasons, I think the Politics section of the Lounge is an important part of the Android community.
