Physical buttons have become sluggish

I've just returned from France where I have been using my Desire primarily for Satnav. Whilst over there, I noticed that the physical buttons on my Desire have become veryu sluggish, sometimes you have to hold them in for a good few seconds to become responsive.

On other occasions they work perfectly which is what is confusing me.

Can anyone shed any light on how to fix this problem. I cant be 100% sure but I started to notice the problem after connecting to free wifi in Mcdonalds :)

Thanks in advance

Craig

You're not the only one. I noticed this about a week ago. The back button became unresponsive. At first i thought i'd not pressed it right, but now i know it's not that. Sometimes i have to press them twice, but it's mainly the back button.

I just thought that the phone was giving up after 1.5yrs of use/abuse.

I've had my phone since April 2010, a similar duration to you. Maybe it is a fault with the design which has not been aparrent until they reach this age.

Had the same, then used an anti static foam cleaner on the keys just in case it was dirt etc underneath, never fixed 100%, but made a massive difference.

Same here. Gotta push the menu key a lot firmer these days. Just got to get through these next 7 months without breaking it totally.

Mine is less clicky now, but that was because I unfortunately spilled some orange juice on top of my back button :P

But I found that if you get a nail in the gap at the top of the button and pull it outwards, it gives it more of a physical click.

Certainly mine never lags or requires pressing twice though. I've had mine for just over a year now.

The home and 'mEnu' buttons are starting to need a firmer push on mine now. Started last week, phone is 18months old.

my volume down button often needs a couple of presses to get it to work. I use it a lot to scroll through rss feeds, so thats prob why. had phone 18months, all other buttons fine though.

Yeah, my volume buttons started becoming a bit less sensitive a couple of months ago, and recently I've noticed the menu button needing a good hard press to work properly.

No fault - electrical goods aren't made with longevity in mind! They make them to last just long enough for you to not feel cheated, but not so long that you never bother upgrading to the next model. Same with cars, kettles, TVs...

Same issue here with Back button. I usually need to press it twice which makes it seem like the phone is lagging, but it is just the button not registering that it has been pressed.

How odd. I was just in France and the very same problem started there too. On the back button only so far.

I guess my phone's wearing down a bit....or maybe it's the 2.3 update balls-up

Yep. Same here also. However, when using internet esp it often skips back two pages, although the first press 'didn't work'....it's a pain in the proverbials

Funny how the problem seems to be happening around 18 month mark, I got my Desire in March 2010, so it's almost at the 18 months old and guess what? all the physical keys are dodgy, musch like all the people above have said.

Well mine's popped out at 14 months if it's any consolation? Probably not....

Same, 15 months old :(
I bought the Desire 13 months ago, used it moderately, passed it on to my wife who has used it more than me, and it's still rock solid. No sloppy keys or quirkiness so far.

But if it starts acting up at 18 months, I might lose a gasket.
