Post Here if You Have Received The Update

No SMS update. I checked for update. Smooth sailing. ECLAIR.UCJH7 no SIM removal.

Oh, sorry....stock, no root, no lagfix.

I just got the update. Samsung posted about it on twitter about 20 min ago.

Twitteracct = "SamsungMobileUS"

Guys, I've been running this firmware for 3 weeks now, GPS is NOT fixed in this.

I agree. I just updated a few minutes ago and see absolutely no difference in the GPS performance. I've been in the camp that's NEVER received any kind of lock when turning off Wireless Networks. I'm so annoyed right now.

Guys, I've been running this firmware for 3 weeks now, GPS is NOT fixed in this.

I just got the update and the kernel build date is Sep 11, which is a lot less than 3 weeks ago. They may have re-used the JH7 build id or something, but this kernel appears to be less than two weeks old.

Rooted and OCLF on my captivate. Didn't get a text message, but manually installed.
Everything went fine. It did lag for a while at 50%, and then at the Galaxy S screen, which others are reporting too.
Even got the Congratulations! message.
I had quick office before, and it's still there.

Did you have to remove the lag-fix and unroot?

Painless upgrade from stock phone. Really fast, smooth and impressive.

Haven't checked gps yet but much better performance (i.e no lag). I have NOT previously employed the lag fix.

Checked for the update this morning and installed it.
Previously I was rooted and running One Click Lag Fix 2.0
It installed fine, long wait on the Galaxy S logo when rebooting.
JH7 now, GPS lock in 5 minutes or so.

ALSO, I've rebooted about 4 or 5 times now, and every single time my phone turns on and I swipe the screen to unlock, I'm welcomed by the "Congratulations! New software update for phone installed. Phone is ready for use" message.
I've rebooted again to check and it did it for me too.

Looks like folks who rooted their phones are having some issues and possibly not getting the update JH7 firmware. This could be the reason for many of them posting that the GPS is still broken. Wonder if XDA guys have any updates regarding the "Failed Update" message.

Mine was rooted using the One-Click Root application. Everything was ok updating. However, I just tried GPS Outside...got immediate lock using Google Maps, but it never updated after that.

Just checked the GPS during lunch and it doesn't lock any faster than before, took about 5 minutes to lock. I'll check it again on the drive home, as for attempting to get a lock next to a window, that doesn't work for me. So in short, I don't think there's any GPS changes in this firmware.

I updated but I think I already had it or something. Nothing has changed under about phone... Where should I be looking and for what? Thanks

Firmware - 2.1update1
Kernel - 2.6.29 Sept 11#2
Build - Eclair.UCJH7

Rooted + Lagfix
Received update via manual pull
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: I897UCJH7
Kernel: 2.6.29jetaek.lee@sep-11 #2
Build: Eclair.UCJH7

Install issues: None. Downloaded, installed, rebooted, paused on 50% and on Samsung screen

GPS Before: sporadic results, could not use at all. recorded me doing a 21 mile run in 28 minutes

GPS After: Wireless off, GPS Locks, fixed my position in under 1 min with 7 -9 satellites. 16 ft+. I was in a parking lot, and using google maps was able to pinpoint where I was based on the lines in the photo. It was typically within 8' correct. Moved several times, confirmed results.

GPS conclusion: better lock, better accuracy, under 1 minute pinpoint. Much improved.

Every time I check, I get a "Communication Failed. Unable to communicate with the AT&T Server".
My phone is rooted, sideload enabled, running VooDoo lag fix. Anyone seen similar issue?

Samsung Mobile on Twitter posted the following:

GPS + other improvements for Samsung ATT Captivate are HERE! Today - next few weeks OTA notification will be sent to customers!

So I'm wondering if today's update was just general fixes being pushed out and will soon be followed by the official GPS fix. Remember folks, the documentation from AT&T does not mention a GPS fix. So I think it is safe to say based on what I'm seeing with my phone and what others are reporting, that JH7 does not have a GPS fix.

ok it seems like the gps lock is faster within 10-15 secs but the accuracy is stil off...WTF! come on samsung what kind of fix is this??? my arrow is bouncing all over the place! my incredible locked on within seconds and the accuracy is dead on..so whats wrong with the captivate?

yes, I still get communication failed too. Im sure we are not in the pool of 15K yet. I have also not recieved a text.

Im 100% stock

I got the update.

Rooted, stock rom.

Update went smoothly. It took a few minutes to down load and went through one reboot. Inside, so I haven't got a GPS lock. Right now, via GPS Status, my phone sees a few sats, but isn't locking on. Perhaps I will go for a walk and see how accurate it is.

I just installed it about 30 minutes-45 minutes ago. Noticing that the GPS has more sats in view from inside my house, but they are all "gray" in GPS Test, so not in use. Position not locking on inside, but outside, it does. But it was before sometimes. I'm going on 3 minutes, no lock inside the house now...but I do detect "grayed out" satellites.

It's definitely not "night and day" or anything like that.

I just changed my phone's time and grabbed the update

fully stock, no changes whatsoever to the device

GPS lock initially took like 5 minutes, but has been snappy (like under a minute) since, and I will test after a reboot.

GPS tracking/holding the lock is completely fixed for me, navigation worked beautifully for once (of course the day after I really could have used it), and was perfect for the entire 26 mile trip.

The compass in My Tracks and Maps is all over the place, but the track is ALMOST perfect, there were two corners that it showed as cut about 10 feet short, and sometimes showed me as in the wrong lane. Honestly, that is acceptable to me though, as it is probably within the error circle for the GPS.

In short I am happy, I just hope it lasts and is not just from the cache dump during the reboot/upgrade process...

I sure hope that is what this means: Today is ATT updates but Samsung is having their own coming soon.

Samsung posted in the Galaxy S facebook feed that this update has GPS improvements.

HOWEVER I just went outside - there isn't a cloud in the sky and after 10 minutes it saw one satellite and locked onto none which tells me something in my settings must be messed up but I can no longer get back to the GPS settings screen after the update.
