Post ways to get awesome battery life.

I know everyone is talking about LTE eating juice and whatnot, but I don't think that's the problem. Neither is syncing or whatever. Go to Settings->About Phone->Battery->Battery Use. What's eating up a majority of your battery? At least for me 65-70% of usage is the display. Based on that, it would seem the #1 thing you can do to save battery is turn down your screen brightness. I've got mine set at around 30% or so.

That's not the case for me. I turned off GPS, BT, and Wifi, killed all tasks using Advanced Task Killer. I didn't even turn on the screen for about 3.5 hours, and my battery went from 100% to 48%.

But now that I've been reading this thread, I think I'll try uninstalling the Task Killer. I turned off the sync for News and Stocks, simply because I didn't want them. Now I see that it may help with battery life.

I hope this works, since this is the last day I'll be able to return the phone, if it comes to that.

Yeah, it will be fun to watch Verlander throwing to vmart. Although being a Red Sox fan, I can't say I'm thrilled seeing vmart as a Tiger. Should be a great season! sorry, off topic.

I know it is off topic but just wanted to say that I feel your pain about Vmart, only x100... I'm an Indians fan >.<

ROOT and install Undervolting kernal

18hrs Up Time
4.5hrs Awake Time

61% Battery

Granted it's been light use , I've never had data turn off , I've got the screen on max brightness , WiFi always on .
Ohh and regular charge , I didn't bump charge I didn't charge the battery in an external charger either. Just straight up phone plugged into the wall . Probably would be at 70% if I externally charged the battery

I have had the ThunderBolt since March 25th. I was worried about the battery life after reading many things on here but I am happy to say that after engaging the auto-kill feature on the phone and in combination with the advance task killer app I am EASILY getting 12 hours each day out of the battery with about 25% life left when I plug it in. I would say the auto-kill feature of the phone had the most to do with extending the battery life. It is nice to look down at the screen and to see a pop-up with 3 apps killed.

Here are the steps I took to increase my battery life

1. Disabled window animations (all this does is change the look of how apps/internet opens up. Instead of a quick fade into the app/internet it snaps into the page)
2. Disabled automatic updates or set them to once a day
3. Turned my screen brightness down

And what has made the most difference is #4

4. Downloaded LTE onOff which allows you to toggle between 3g & 4g. I noticed a difference yesterday if I kept it on the 3g setting which saved some battery life. Then I switched over to just LTE not LTE/CDMA and just being on the 4g without the CDMA has made a tremendous difference! It's now 11am EST and before I would already be down to about 40% (since an 8:30am off-charge time) and today i'm only down to 80% and that's with just the 4G LTE only running (with some app use/email push).

I improved my battery life by:

1. Settings - Display - set to manual about 30% -screen still looks good

2. Settings - Accounts & sync - turn sync off for everything that is not critical to you

3. Settings - Wireless & networks - turn off Wi-Fi when not using it

4. Mail - use IMAP push if possible

5. Settings - About phone - Battery - Battery use - check to see what is using power. In most cases the display uses 80 to 90% of your power, so...

6. Settings - Display - Screen timeout - set to a low number like 15 or 30 seconds when on battery

I installed the MySettings app which helps change settings faster.

7. If you have your phone on battery and all it is doing is notifying you of messages, then you can save power by reducing speed from 4G LTE to 3G.

I installed the LTE OnOff app to help do this faster.

8. Settings - Bluetooth - turn off when not using (any radio uses some power)

This has helped quite a bit. The first few days I had the phone the battery life was only a few hours. Now I can usually go an entire work day without charging if I am not using the display for a long time.

When I am working with my laptop I connect the USB port and charge when possible.

Although the battery life is lower than the BlackBerry that was replaced, 4G LTE speed and Android OS makes it worthwhile for me.

Im confused about the on/off LTE. I set it for 3g only yet I cant get a connection to internet or anything that uses it....

I'm sold on this whole bump charging thing. I finally cooked up the courage to try it and run a test. I bumped (proper term?) 3 times and am now 25.10 hours with 2 hours awake (medium to moderate usage). A few 20 minute calls, 25 texts, a bunch of short calls with about 10 hours 4G and Wi Fi (50ish%) and GPS on (100%). I just dropped to 40%

46% of used juice was for the screen, I forgot to turn it down when I started, it was at 100% for a fair bit of yesterday. I just dropped to 40% bat left. I'll run it through the night and charge it up on that super deal Amazon car charger tomorrow, to test that.

According to Earlymon, bump charging is BS. I must agree. He didn't use that term but if you can bump charge a phone you should be able to bump charge a car battery right? Um, no.

Question: when you go into your settings and look at what is consuming the battery, where is the LTE radio displayed? Which catagory? Maybe, Android system? I ask because when I switch from 4G to 3G (LTE OnOff) I see an increase in battery life, but I have no way to tell how much.

After I bought the thunderbolt I asked about extra battery my Verizon dealer convinced me to buy a portable charger which gives you about 5 hours additional battery life fits in same pocket as the phone and can also charge an I pod. Motorola P 793. And cheaper than extended battery.

My Bolt has been up for 10 hrs now. Messing with it and listening to FM radio for like 3 hrs. My battery is still at 90%. I have done nothing special; to my phone. I stay away from app killers and so on. I think they do more harm than good. All I did was disable the animation like I always do on my phones and turn mail and all other sync but the weather. Maybe I am lucky or not I have never worried about battery life. I did just download that 4g on off app as my lil town wont have 4g for awhile.

Okay so running a new ROM (BAMF 1.4) with version "A" kernel which is undervolted but not OC'd. Best battery life I have seen thus far.

Today has seen a 50/50 mix of 4G and WiFi use. I watched 25 minutes of YouTube on 4G and about the same amount over WiFi. 20 hours is the best I can usually manage when only using WiFi. This is more 4G usage than normal and usually I'm lucky to get 12 hours when using a lot of 4G.

Overall, normal use for me really but I just saw the battery dropping less when idle and during use. Usually streaming video kills the battery and it just seemed more reasonable today.

The one thing that really made a difference in my battery life was a tip I saw on XDA. If you're rooted, use a third party launcher (LauncherPro, ADW, etc) and rename Rosie.apk to Rosie.apk.bak

After trying the various BAMF roms and undervolted kernels, this is the only fix I tried that actually yielded noticeable results with regard to battery life. My signal at work is a little weak since it has to go through a few walls, so the battery drains faster there due to the phone working harder to hold on to the signal. However, I spent most of Sunday outside wondering when my phone would run out of it's charge and still had about 25% of my battery left at 10pm...normally I would have had to charge it at least one more time before then.

Edit: Here is a link to the post I referred to above. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12762342&postcount=2107

The HTC launcher actually seems to be fairly efficient based on my usage. I'm at 50% battery left and the phone has been off the charger for 9.5 hours. The HTC launcher (Rosie) only accounts for 2% of my battery drain today. That's not very much and if you look at my screenshots above, the launcher didn't even make the screenshot because it was so far down the list although it was on the list.

I did perform a battery calibration on Saturday.

I charged the phone to 100%
Wiped the battery stats
Depleted the battery until it shut off
Fully charged it (including bump charge)

I have not bump charged it since and I am seeing the phone drop from 100% to 99%, 98% etc. I've never seen this phone do that unless I bump charge it. Usually without a bump charge, my phone drops to 96% or 94% almost immediately after removing from the charger.

I will second this, Rosie only accounts for about 2% of my battery drain as well. I have never bump charged the phone, or done a battery stats wipe (will probably calibrate the battery sometime this weekend though).

Anyway I have been very impressed by how well Rosie works in terms of system and battery useage.

yesterday with moderate usage I unplugged it at 8:15am and at 11:15pm had 40% of my battery left. It's all about managing the battery (screen brightness, JuiceDefender, turning off GPS if you don't need it, and turning off always on data)

I'm trying to be judicious, but can't get anything close to this. I have WiFi, Mobile (3G), GPS on toggles -- default to off, but use when necessary (usually turn Mobile on to check email, occasionally surf, not much at all).

Screen at about 35%.

No 4G here. PhoneInfo app has toggle set to CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto. Seems that when I tried one of the CDMA-only options it killed all data (but that was early in my experience with Android/TB, so that could be wrong.

I'm getting 12 hours, tops ...

That's the same problems I was having, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get more than 12 hours, and most days barely 8 hours. So I kept trying different approaches until I landed on something that actually seemed to work for me, but it might not work for everybody else.
