Root Problem Backing-up SD Card

I connected my EVO to my iMAC computer as a disc drive. I highlighted all files and folders on the phone's SD card and tried to move them to a folder on the computer. The copying began, but after a few minutes I got a pop-up message that the disc drive was unmounted/disconnected. I tried this several times, and I then tried to use the "copy" command followed by "paste" into the folder and the same thing happened. This was replicated with two different cables for fear that a cable may have been defective. Any ideas? Any and all assistance appreciated.

Try the same method with fewer of the files, and in more stages.
I had issues with trying to move large #s of pictures from my sd card. It would bog down, start showing errors, etc. Once I performed the same operation in smaller "packets" I didn't have any issues.
Also try and restart your computer, I've had issues that were fixed with a restart. ;)

I tried to move one folder at a time as suggested, but I keep getting "Error Code 36" followed by forced close and USB dismount. Any suggestions on how to B/U my phone's SD card onto my iMAC?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

O you're using a Mac, I have no experience with Mac's. Sorry my friend, try doing a search on the googles and see what you find. I've never ran into that error before

Have you tried uploading to a cloud? Try uploading some to dropbox then download to computer? Do you have access to a PC? Could be a physical problem with the card itself. You can try to run TestDisk and see if there are physical problems.

Do you have an adapter to put it in and a card reader? Maybe that will work, take cables and the phone out of the equation.

I finally removed the micro SD card from my EVO and placed it into the computer. I was able to back up everything on the phone's card card to my iMAC. Question, however, why could I not perform the backup when I connected the phone (with card inside) to the computer? I tried several cables which reduces (?) the likelihood that the cables were the problem.

Did you make sure that as a disk drive was selected
