Help Problems with Pandora on 2.2.1

swc2001

Android Expert
Has anybody else experienced Pandora skipping an crackling since the move to 2.2.1?

I at first had it loaded on my SD card and thought maybe that was it.
Still didnt fix it when I moved it to my phone.

Then I uninstalled and reinstalled. Still happened.
I also checked to make sure what settings that Pandora was on.... It was on lower quality just like I always had it on when I had 2.1

I also tried going to manage applications and clearing the cache and force stopping it. No dice.

Pandora does say if you have it on higer quality you may recieve skipping and popping but i didnt have it on that setting.

What the POOP!!
Can any one help?

I use Pandora everyday. I am running 2.2.1 have not had any of issues your talking about. sorry bud.

I have this same problem intermittently and as of yet have not been able to pinpoint the source of the crackling/skipping/popping.

It does it regardless of signal strength or wifi connection status.
It does it regardless of SetCPU clock settings (thought that my low frequency battery saver settings might have done it)
It does it with the screen on with me actively using the phone
It does it with the screen off
It does it standing still
It does it driving

Yet with all of these, the crackling is 100% random and goes away once the affected song is skipped... only to return a few songs later. It also seems that if the song starts with crackling it will crackle for the entirety of the song (ie: pausing and waiting for it to buffer does nothing).

All in all it is a minor inconvenience, Pandora is still very usable... just more annoying than anything.

I am still trying to pin this issue down as well. What I can say is when I use Stock Velocity and pandora with no other added apps... the issue goes away.
So I surmize that it is an app that is causing it. Maybe we can compare apps sometime to see What we have in common... Maybe its one of those? ;)

edit: Oh and by the way the issue is This: the 1st song perfect. Second song Scratchy. If you skip that song is good while the next one pops.

Edit: Hmmmm we both Have SetCpu and Frunisher Starts out with SetCpu.... I wonder if thats it?
Testing Now.
Edit: SetCpu Ruled out. Works perfect with it.
Going on to next batch of Apps
Edit: Trying the last App: LinPack
Edit: Ok I am frusterated now because I have put every app I use back on and...... Nothin It sounds perfect No pops No Scratches..... So I still have no idea why it poped and carried on before....
Holy cow..... So weird. AND ANNOYING. I guess I shouldnt complain it works right now. But Why??

I'll compile a list of apps tomorrow once I'm recovered from my prolonged sleep deprivation. I noticed my music mod app doing the same skippy poppy thing playing music off the SD card... does yours do the same?

Huh Wow. I dont know.
Never tried that. I will have to go back to the affected Nandroid and see.
For what ever reason when I redid the Phone and put all apps back on it worked fine. Go figure

So your problem went away after making/restoring a nand. backup?

Ima try that and if it doesn't work i'll just scream.

No My problem comes back when I restore that old Nandroid that originally had the Problem.

I completely Reflashed Velocity 1.0 Put all my apps back on and Changed my settings and ringtones to my preferances.

In Other words I started from scratch and Mysteriously the problem has gone away. If you look at both the Nandroids the one with the problem and the one without.... THey look pretty much identicle. Just the bad one plays Pandora goofy while the other does not. I dont understand it. It makes No sense.

Also Whenever I install Frunisher the problem is always there. However I am sure my Boy Death2All has it under control and will not Release Frunisher with that Glitch. I just wish I could pin it down for him what it was that makes the Problem.

Its not for lack of Trying I will tell ya that.
Other people with other phones have also made this same complaint when their phones made the jump to 2.2

Its very few people that seem to have this issue though. I dunno Idunno
All I can say is try redoing your phone from scratch and see if the glitch is still there.

I have a Stock Froyo Nandroid if you need one.... Unless your Using Velocity then it doesent matter.

I know all that may not be what you wanted to hear.... but its the best I can tell you.

Good luck.

I see, i'll try that. I know what you're saying, its strange how sometimes a simple reflash/reformat makes computers work... hopefully it works for me.

I'm having the exact same issue running Velocity 1.0. I have not found the reason either. The only other issue I have is my phone almost always reboots when I use the camera. I'm waiting for the next update to Velocity before I start from scratch.

I found that Pandora works fine when the screen is on but when it is off I get the popping described above. The first song works fine but the next songs have static/popping. When I turn the screen back on the popping stops. Weird.

I have experienced that from time to time as well. With Velocity 1.0
Not to say that it wouldnt happen stock mind you. It just so happens thats what I was using when it happened.

The problem is in the App itself, and will happen on nearly any phone at our hardware level. Pandora is aware of the problem, and are working on a resolution!

Why does it happen on some roms all the time where on others very rarely?
Also why does it never happen on stock 2.2.1?
