Qik video chat isn't free?

Is the EVO going to have Swype already on it? The lady from HTC seemed to think so..

Edit: Sorry I meant to quote cabbie below

Let's hope that it will come pre-installed with the upgrade version of the Qik. That's one thing I like about the HD2, it has mobile office pre-installed as well as swype.

In doing basic research on their website, personal use is free. Since the app is already tested on the EVO, we should not have to upgrade. Based on the test videos, it's already good to go. For commercial use, it's 49.99/month per phone or $499.00 per year per phone. News agencies are the main ones using it and paying for commercial use.

I have Google video chat on my computer now. Why wouldn't it be on the EVO when it comes out. One would think that Google would support that. :D

I think swype will be partnering with either the phone manufacturers, or the carriers, I do not know which. So hopefully we will get the full version of the software pre-installed and not some trialware where we will be charged after the trial period is over.

After the $10 fee Sprint added, I wouldnt be surprised if this app has a light but not free $3 a month or so fee.

To me, Qik is not that big of an app to charge this but who knows.

The only video to video app I want to see on this phone is Skype. I wouldnt see Skype charging for something it already does for free on computers.

Yea I would love to get Skype, but I think they have an exclusive contract w/Verizon so it doesn't look we'll be getting Skype for awhile.

The good thing here is that Android is not locked down, and that Sprint has left it up to 3rd parties to come up with their own video chat solutions for the phone.

That means that in the coming months, you'll have your choice of AOL, Skype, UStream, etc.

This is useful because at first, the only way you'll be able to video chat with it is EVO to EVO. QIK offers a desktop viewer client so someone can view your EVO-streamed video, but you can't see them. Hopefully another company will solve that issue quickly.

I'm so not excited by Qik. It seems useless to me. Unless we catch something news worthy to broadcast.
Phone to phone? unless we're all gonna chat with each other there's no other phone with a front facing camera. that's gonna make the chat suck, they can't see us or we can't see them.

Fring seems to do Skype video chat that should be much more useful.

So QIK Video Chat will be 4.99 a month. Payment thru Paypal

Wow, I had taken that before to just mean it wouldn't be ready for wide release until then (not in time to preload it) since it failed a few times in the videos from the sprint event. This phone is turning into an increasing lack of bargain

So you want the best phone on earth to be a bargain too?

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

Wow looks like I was wrong. Oh well, just go to fring now. Charging for video chat is really dumb. Really really dumb. Considering that gtalk will support it in the future. Sprint is trying to turn this into an iphone thing.

This isn't Sprint. It's QIK. If it was Sprint they would just charge your bill..

obsolete before its even released to the masses, Fringe just p3wed! the hell out of qik lol... they will have to make the app free now...
