Questions you would like answered.

I was sincerely hoping all carriers would begin to sell on the same day. Other than TMo's date of the 24th the rest have still been closed lip about it.
Waiting the 24th is like watching paint dry.

Well, we also don't know what the date on that paper meant. It could mean first day of pre-orders.

I wonder if November 15th plays any role in this whole release date debate. If you look on the Samsung picture saying the next big thing is here it shows the phone with November 15th as the date...just a thought, although I hope it is released in October. :)

Great catch. I'd say that will likely be the latest date it's released, but we'll see. I can't imagine they'll release both the optimus g and the note 2 at the same time, so once one is released there will likely be a better idea of when the other will be released.

I just can't wait to see how much longer Verizon takes to release it than the other carriers..I'm sure I'll be down at the Sprint store playing with theirs to pass the time until i can get my hands on one

I bet, if Verizon does have a delayed release, it'll be available by nov. 15 at the latest.

I've read reviews that said sound quality is phenomenal. I think louder than the GS3.
Gosh....how many days til the announcement now?

I saw on another forum some time ago someone had a countdown ticker (like a stock exchange ticker) on their phone and I could kick myself for forgotting to ask where he got it from. Haven't found anything like it in the market.
Two that I like in the Market are CountDownWidget and Virtual Countdown.

True, but i hate waiting a week or two after everybody else to be able to purchase one...i guess being "stuck" with a gs3 isn' a terrible problem to have though

At least you're on ics. I'm literally stuck on gingerbread with my mopho, no thanks to Motorola dumping on any non-verizon phone.

Yea i feel for you i haven't seen gingerbread since i dumped my razr for the galaxy nexus. I had the Samsung behold 2 though, so i know how it feels to have your phone abandoned by the manufacturer...leaves a pretty bitter taste in your mouth

I don't know if you remember back before the Photon was announced a LOT of people said they weren't going to get it because Moto was going to abandon it. I got it anyway; not because of what I thought Moto or the dev community would bring to the table but because it was truly a rock solid phone.

Once I get the Note 2, I don't see myself altering it right away. Sometimes I simply get tired of rooting and roming....it's damn near draining at times. Always sitting on the edge of your seat hoping nothing goes wrong during the process. As greater phones come to market the quest to tackle it's innards becomes less and less. Same thing happened when I was jailbraking. I woke up one day discovering I was tired of doing that too.

Really? Sure you're not talking bout the photin q? If not, I guess I tuned all of that out, cuz once the first rumors came out about the mopho, i knew it was the phone for me. I still love it and plan on keeping it. I'm just disappointed moto has its money vested in what verizon can do for them, failing to see how much more support and sales they'd get by expanding their offerings across different providers, like samsung.

Nope...talking about the original Motorola Photon. Since it was being released the same time as the Evo 3D, Evo enthusiasts swore the Photon was going to be a P.O.S and the 3D was going to be the end-all be-all. Former Moto owners said no to the Photon because of Motos track record of either abandoning their best phones or barely giving them the support they deserve before completely abandoning it.

I tried to like the E3D but it felt like a step in the wrong direction compared to OG Evo. I don't fault the dev community for all they did with the Photon. It was slow going at first because not a lot of them had this phone.

I'm surprised you missed the hubbub considering how much you get around. :D

I remember people being so high on the 3vo because of how much we all loved the evo 4g. Also, the 3d was released something like a month and a half earlier that the photon, so many people (me included) didn't want to wait. At the time though, moto had the droid x on Verizon which received a few updates already, so we all thought the photon wouldn't be any different, especially with how quickly Sprint had pushed out updates to the og evo, it's previous flagship phone.

I don't remember people really bad mouthing it, but more-so having 3vo blinders. I felt the same as u bout the 3vo, but was happy to give moto a shot, since it was Motorola's first foray into sprint superphone world. All the negative comments I remembered were whining about pentile screen and locked bootloader. I guess I should ask the people that were predicting it'd be tossed to the side what the next lotto numbers will be... Lol

To win my full support back, Moto would need to follow Samsung's lead and turn off the provider blinders. I am still holding out hope that Google can right the ship. Motorola still makes the best accessories for smartphones, imo.

With all of the special software features built into the ROM for the S pen functionality, I agree with you on waiting when it comes to roming. I cannot, however, live without root because I use too many rooted applications (Titanium Backup, Orbot, Solid Explorer, etc.). Will be interesting to see what tweaks can be applied to the Note II while still maintaining the S pen features.

From the start, Motorola's photon support was awesome, but as time went on and the razr series was released on Verizon, all of a sudden, the atrix 2 and photon took a back seat. Even the long anticipated bionic took a backseat on Motorola's preferred provider.

It was real ugly over on XDA and a few other forums I'm on. The endless bickering was right up there with Apple vs Samsung.

I can live without root for about the 1st 3 mos of new phone ownership but then I get bored, have to tinker and put my root apps back on....I didn't pay for them for nothing. :D

Support may have been awesome but development took off slowly. I remember the 1st root method obtained required the dock and webtop over hdmi. Once root was obtained I was able to use my root only apps that I had grown accustomed to.

Allow me to pose this question....for what seems like forever, Motorola and Verizon have been constant bed buddies. I am trying to understand why so many people thought that relationship was going to change when Google purchased Motorola Mobility. I thought Google was only interested in MM for the patents? As it appears from my end, it's still business as usual between Verizon and Motorola or am I missing something?

Without getting too off topic, the main reason I chose to believe Motorola would support the Photon (not necessarily on the development side, but more-so the non-rooting community), is due to their seemingly good support of other top Motorola Verizon phones. This was their first superphone offering for Sprint. And I still believe the Photon was the most underrated phone of last year...but obviously, there are a lot of other factors that changed things with the Photon (e.g. mis-hap on update that prevented the OS from upgradability to ICS, Sprint switching to LTE, Google's finalized purchase during the time that would've seen the updates being worked on). The Verizon/Motorola marriage is a completely separate issue, which is more with regards to their "false sense of security" that Verizon offerings alone would drive profit. I still feel that the Google purchase needs another year to really prove whether it was for the "patents" or to really grow the brand. Even though it was stated that the purchase wasn't only for the patents, it's still possible that may have been the case...but, this is where I'm not completely convinced that Google has asserted enough of their influence...yet.

Example:
2 years ago, Samsung's Galaxy S 1 line was released, with variants coming to the US. While it was successful (more-so Internationally, than the US), it wasn't quite as popular at that time. Samsung's support Internationally was great, but their US support was sub-par (speaking purely from a non-root, general consumer perspective). Fast forward 1 year later, the Galaxy S2 line gets released, still with variants, but the support improves, along with slight improvement of constant complaints from the prior year (e.g. GPS / radio signal issues). The SGS 2 line changed things around for Samsung, based purely on the amount of revenue they generated, which allowed them to get the original Note launched with great success and even more success with the SGS 3. Marketing to the masses is much easier, when there's added revenue to increase budget for marketing.

Samsung used the popularity of the SGS 2 and realized that the smartest way for them to truly compete with the likes of Apple, was to create similar marketing strategies. Hence, you have no "variants" of the SGS 3 across the different providers. Branding is little to non-existant, which opens up the marketibility to a worldwide range, rather than people only paying attention to the "version" that's available on their provider. Genius move and a marketing ploy that Apple has used for a long time. Motorola could have capitalized on this concept sooner than Samsung, but they didn't.

If Google is smart, now that Motorola is under their umbrella, they will re-vamp the entire strategy behind Motorola branding and build off the popularity of the Razr Brand, which had huge success. Verizon has exclusivity off the "Droid" marketing brand, but not the Razr brand (as seen in the Razr offerings in other countries). The Google execs should take a step back and see where their money makers are...If Motorola offers the Droid Razr HD and Maxx across all the carriers (minus the "Droid" marketing brand)...I bet they would've been back "in the race" this year, rather than still trying to figure things out. Case and point, looks like they're offering the 2 phones next week:
Motorola Droid RAZR HD, Droid RAZR MAXX HD available October 18 from Verizon

But look at the pricing! $299 for the Razr HD Maxx?...Yeah, that's the way to have faith in Verizon. Unless Verizon plans on offering the Note 2 for more than that, I don't think the Razr HD Maxx will have anywhere near the success that it had last year.

Guaranteed, if Motorola stuck with a single design for all 4 major US providers, kept the lapdock support (and actually enhanced it, rather than limiting it), unlocked the bootloaders (which they seem to be doing with all their newest phones...Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD on ATT, Sprint, Verizon, & T-Mobile would've been extremely popular. Even the Razr M offering would've been popular. Enough to outshine Samsung?...Probably not, but much better than their current numbers will be for all their offerings on the 4 majors.

Anyhow, my rant has gone way too off topic, so pushing this back on topic...All these mis-haps from Motorola has pushed me into a position of giving a brand (e.g. Samsung) a shot that I never within the past 2 years would've thought I'd do. I just can't ignore the fact that Samsung seems to have been paying better attention to their customers than Motorola. What a difference 2 years can make, which is why I still see a little light at the end of the tunnel for Motorola. In the meantime, I'll just be enjoying my time with the Note 2 for the next 1 1/2 years.

Quick question if i may............did a bunch of research and could not find my answer so if it has been posted i apologize in advance :(

I currently own the AT&T S3 and am thinking of going to the Note II. The screen size on my S3 is approximately 2.4" x 4.8". It has a PPI of 306.

For those of you with much better mathematical skills than me...............what would the Note II screen size be. It claims to be a 5.5" with 265 PPI. What would the width measurement be?

I would like to compare screen sizes but am having a problem not knowing the width measurement.

Thanks :)

(5.9 x 3.2 x 0.37 inches) I think this is what you're looking for.
