Why do criminals typically serve only half the prison sentence handed down to them?

Dear Adult children,

Welcome to Adulthood! Here are some helpful tips for you as you go about doing the adulting thing:

1) Mom is not your maid. Clean up after yourself.
2) Nor is she your laundress. Wash your own damn clothes.
3) Speaking of which, her closet (and my sock drawer) are not the backup store when you run out.
4) I am under no obligation to feed you. Nor do I have to procure supplies for your perceived personal dietary requirements. If you want it, go to the store and buy it yourself.
5) No, I have no money. I spend it all on mortgage, insurance, and utilities. An medical bills: I need a lot of therapy to continue putting up with you and not going on a murder-spree.
6) Speaking of which, go get yourself a job.
7) Seriously, get a job, make money, and stop mooching off me.
8) Then feel free to move out and get a life of your own.
