Given how "snug" things have already gotten here on planet Earth, I'm not sure I want to end all sickness and disease. I know it sounds harsh at first blanch, but honestly, haven't we taken natural selection out of the game enough? If we continue to "improve" the human race we may end up bringing the race to an end. As it is if we don't figure out how to feed, house and care for who we've got now we're in trouble. If we can't branch out to the stars we'll run out of room at this pace, much less if no one is ever sick and no one dies. I say this as someone in their mid 40's that has degenerated discs in his spine, type 2 diabetes and a host of other "issues".

Again, do we really want to mess with the miracle of our existence?

I was just writing something very similar myself when your post popped up. Yes, I think we have actually taken natural selection out of the equation, because a species usually adapts to survive in its environment. We've effectively turned this on its head and adapted our environment to suit us.

And yes I do worry about the population explosion, but I'm not talking about preventing death - just the conditions which affect life quality.

Besides, if and when nature decides to unleash a pandemic that we can't handle, then I guess that may be a kind of 'reset' event for the human race, if we survive.

Even if you don't "stop" death but just greatly delay it, the generational overlap grows, and grows, and grows and boom, we're living on top of one another.

I think that is inevitable, whatever we do.

Metro’s top officials warned Wednesday that the transit system is in such need of repair that they might shut down entire rail lines for as long as six months for maintenance, potentially snarling thousands of daily commutes and worsening congestion in the already traffic-clogged region.

...that's Washington DC's subway system shutting down for half a year! ...glad I live in Podunk Arizona.

The good news is: it won't have any effect on the operation of the government.
