Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

They wouldnt let me anywhere near the couple of computers (BBC Micro then IBM PC in highschool) in my school :banghead::banghead:
i was programing simple games in Basic at 9. How different my life could been if my school had bothered to scratch beneath the surface...

Realistically, I doubt it would have made a significant difference in your life-- you wouldn't have gotten a computer in your house, what skills you learned in school wouldn't have improved your chances of getting into University (or a better slot), nor would it have made much difference (if any) on your resume.

... sorry, just call me Captain Pessimism. :P

Wow, the school prevented you from learning! Hate the school system

I did have a computer in my house hence how i learned to program. Also it wasnt intended to be a serious post. I know the reason im a failure is down to me and me alone

P.M.S!!! yeah boys its that time again. I swear it gets worse each time. Talk about walking on eggshells..... these eggs are full of crocodiles with razor sharp teeth :D

doing stuff that I don't want to do!! I am trying to learn to say no to things more often..but geez......here I go again....off to go somewhere that I don't really want to. Although this time I really should ..so it's different ..but still....
enough is enough!

some people are going to start getting a big surprise when I start saying no..nope..sorry can't help ya...I'm not gonna cuz I JUST DON'T WANT TO!!!!
NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!

hissssssssssssssssssssssss

...ok I'm better now:rolleyes:

carry on:)

Hi huh :wavey:
G'luck! @first minions will get angry, disappointed, desperate, pleading and sweet talking, crying.
Don't give in, stick to the strategy: don't change to 'yes'. They will feel it when you are in doubt, and harvest it.

thx kaat:)
apparently My house is now becoming a hotel as well!! I haven't responded to one person yet..but you know what? I'm going to just say ..sorry it's not going to work out..and leave it at that!!
another one, who is coming in October and also had the nerve to ask to use my car because she doesnt want to have to rent one because I live here and I can catch a ride or my husband can drop me off to this stupid thing I don't even want to go to...I'm truly thinking of changing my mind sticking to what I wanted all along which was to say no I don't want to go!!!! she can stay with me if she needs to
but no car and no event! ugh.....I hope I can do it:o

Two annoyances:

I think my phone's battery needs replacement, and considering I live in a good-size urban area, it is unreasonably difficult to find a local source I could drive to, plunk down payment, and exit with a battery in my possession same-day (I don't want to deal with shipping time!).

I live in an apartment complex with a brick fence around it that recently added ironwork around the top to deter the much lower-class types in the next complex over from vaulting said fence to cut through to the shopping center on the other side of mine (my complex is between said lower-class bunch and said shopping center, and apparently using streets and sidewalks like law-abiding civilized people is not happening). Not only have the lazy trespassing jerks broken parts of said ironwork, but even part of the WALL has been busted down to make the shortcut vault easier.

Insurance provider denying my claim because they think that I was injured on the job or something... I am injured because I am freakin' old!

Okay, I am not that old, but the diagnosis of arthritis and bone spurs should give one the idea that my injury is more of a natural thing, and not somebody else's fault.

... next time, send me the damn form first!

thx kaat:)

Relatives, friends or in-laws?
I can dig how hard it is to say no.

@Seanette:

Town full of Sheeple? I live in a fairly large urban area, but all the stores carry the same crap. I wind up ordering from Amazon.

Today's problem - a 10 gallon galvanized metal trash can with a lid for bird seed.
I need to keep the rodent family out. The usual size is 6 gallon. Says ideal for 15 pounds of dog food or bird seed. No one sells 15 pound sacks. Eighteen to twenty pounds is the norm. If you have a lot of birds, ten pounds doesn't last very long.
True Value has one, but no - everyone here wants Lowes . Lowes and to some extent Home Depot chased True Value out. Ace is still here and does have the "helpful hardware pro"

I even struck out on the battery at Fry's Electronics. Their website lied to me, too, claiming to have the battery in stock. What they claimed would fit my Triumph wasn't even CLOSE.

Hopefully, Batteries+ will have something in stock. Their prices are steeper than I like, but maybe their website isn't lying. I'm really worried about how fast the phone's dumping charge when off the cable.

It's not really so much my minions (I have 2)...they would do anything for me no questions asked..and they have and I would ..and have ..done anything for them.:) and I can tell them to go #$@*& no problem...although they have trashed my house and made me very tired by coming over to party every night this summer:rolleyes:...and it's a pain cleaning up etc.and I complain I know........but mostly it's my other friends and some others that I need to stand up to...and I will!!!! I am going to do it ..my mind is made up !

edit OMG!!! I just got an email from my dead beat dad who is coming into town in October and wants to come visit me and meet his son (my Half brother) who he has never even bothered trying until he came to stay with me! really?????
ughhhhh
it never ends!!!!!!!!
I havent replied...dont even know if I will

Friends, as in 'y'all give and y'all take in a somewhat balanced way' and 'you're there for them in the same level as they would be in return'?
Or friends, as in they take advantage of your goodness and disability to say 'no'?

*just asking. No need to answer. :o

Edit: Really? REALLY? The nerve...?! I cannot see into your heart though...

What really Grinds My Gears? Phishing scam calls do!!

Just checked my voice mail for my cellular, and there was a message left that is obviously a phishing scam attempt. The automated message left claimed they were from Verizon, and claimed I had a 495.00 credit. It gave me a web address to go to and log in to claim it. Funny thing is, I don't have an account with Verizon.

Please remember everyone, do not to fall for these. Never go to a website that you get in a call or text message that you receive. Never give any your account over the phone to someone that calls you. If you think it might be a legitimate call, note down what they say and the number they called from, then contact your service provider with the number you know and not the one you may have gotten from the caller....

Oh, I'm terribly sorry that you are coming to town in the one week I won't actually be here...

... actually, that is too damn nice, isn't it?

You're right, no reply is best-- give him exactly what he's given you over the past however-many years.

I had the same problem-- I was contacted for the first time after some thirty years by my father's second wife so she could tell me he was dying... what, now you guys want to connect? He had Alzheimer's, and couldn't remember his own name, let alone the names of kids he hadn't cared about for the last few decades. You got to have him to yourself for thirty-some-odd years; you can keep him for the remainder.

I didn't bother calling her back. I probably would have said something inappropriate, despite the fact that I had pretty much gotten over the abandonment issue years previously.
