Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

There is definately sometimes a fine line between friends and users. It takes courage to make yourself differentiate and even more to put the users in their place. Its a good part of growing up though. ive been in exactly the same situation as Huh where i realised i was giving much more than i was getting in return. Once i got a hold of that my amount of "friends" went down but thats good because the remaining ones are real friends. having too many people to care about is a PITA anyway tbh :)

@Dngrsone I've spoken to him and have seen him once or twice through the years...but I am the only one of my sibs who has..of course!!..(stupid please every body can't say no me:() I'm glad you got over you're abandonment issues..I'm afraid that I have not nor will I ever...think that may be part of the whole thing
anyway , my dad is coming to town to see some woman he is using... (as usual) what gets me is he never even tried to see my half brother until I sent him here to be with me ...originally I sent my brother here( Michigan) for a week from Florida ..round trip ticket..just a visit.. and he (loser dad) even had the nerve to ask me if I could change the return ticket to stop in texas for a few days so he could visit meet whatever him before he headed back to Florida!!! can you believe the nerve????I told him his relationship with his son is his business and I want no part of it so figure it out yourself..
ugh I'm sorry you had to go through that too..it sucks no matter how you look at it..

@funky
you're so right :)

What really Grinds My Gears? Phishing scam calls do!!

Just checked my voice mail for my cellular, and there was a message left that is obviously a phishing scam attempt. The automated message left claimed they were from Verizon, and claimed I had a 495.00 credit. It gave me a web address to go to and log in to claim it. Funny thing is, I don't have an account with Verizon.

Please remember everyone, do not to fall for these. Never go to a website that you get in a call or text message that you receive. Never give any your account over the phone to someone that calls you. If you think it might be a legitimate call, note down what they say and the number they called from, then contact your service provider with the number you know and not the one you may have gotten from the caller....

I never have. I liked annoying them, especially marketers. One of the best answers is "Don't ask me, I lie" Then you explain the whole family is congenital liars - and finish with BTW, I work in marketing.
Surveys are not supposed to call you if you do.

Now I have cell only, and data, so I put the number in Startpage, and search. The ringtone "Cocaine" warns me. I don't have voice mail, never used it when it was active. Shills usually don't leave a VM anyway.

If they are real pests 1-800 notes usually has pages of complaints.

As a rule - if I have no one in the area code, the number isn't shown or says private, I won't answer.

You can block them, but they spoof phone numbers so a call blocker doesn't usually do any good. Every time they call, it's a different number.

My call blocker catches them all and sends them to voicemail without ringing, and blocked/unknown numbers get totally blocked. The trick is I only allow my phone to ring for contacts that are on my phone.

Okay, so I can't believe that I have allowed myself to get caught up in the mindlessly fun stupidity of the game "The Simpsons Tapped Out" but alas, indeed I have.
Today when I attempted to purchase more donuts to play the game with (which is a shameless waste of my finite resources) I was rewarded with the pop-up message that the purchase had been aborted, which is annoying on it's own, but then when I check my bank account it says that the amount of my attempted purchase has been put on hold. So not only do I not get these dadblasted virtual donuts that I shouldn't be purchasing to begin with, but now my alloted money to continue this foolishness has been put on hold!!!
Finally, after contacting Google and being told that it is a security hold (because they can't believe that any adult in their right mind would purchase this nonsense of their own free will), I am now being told not to attempt to purchase anything from Google in the next 48 hours, so that they can clear my security check. Aaaaarrrrrgh!!! I must wait to feed my addiction!:D
Do you think maybe God is trying to tell me something? (Like perhaps I should be purchasing real donuts and milk for the starving children in my community);):)

There's a story on the BBC site today about a guy who set up a premium phone line and giving it whenever asked for a phone number on-line or by marketing companies. Companies that call him now pay him

Walking outside and finding rain, thunder and lightning. Checked the weather and its still 97 degrees with flash flood warnings for my area

McDonald's workers striking for $15/hour wages. I worked hard and earned a good job, a non-management fast food worker shouldn't be making more than I am starting out.

How can McDonald's workers go on strike? They never seem to stay long enough to have a legitimate gripe, let alone demand a pay rise do they? What's the average time that a person a person works in a McDonald's "restaurant", five weeks?

The trouble with being in economical times like these is that unions have no power. Theres too many people lining up to take the job. Strikes dont scare an employee as much as they used to

Yup. Sad but true man
When a currency loses value, so do the common people.

Just read my last post and realised it didnt make sense lol :D
I meant "economic" and "employer" sorry :banghead:

The minimum wage here is $16.37/hr, so it seems a reasonable demand to me...

Where is here (can't see location via TT)?

Realistically, I don't see how anyone can survive on minimum wage (as the USA minimum is set at). Rent, food, transportation costs (bike, shoes, bus fare, etc), medical care, clothing, etc. Even if one is thrifty in EVERY purchase I just don't know how anyone survives.

Well, the only options I see are: living with family or friends, constantly in debt from borrowing or working a second job. It's a sad sight to see here.
