Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Along with the OS X updates that broke Android compatibility and the Linux ones that tried to embrace configuration management and broke it, you bet.

I stick with outdated stuff that works. :)

I knew a person who liked ME.
...he was an ass.

The problems I have with Vista are same as the ones I have for Win 7 and 8-- Microsoft hiding all the power user tools behind ever-increasing walls of obfuscation.

Am I the only person on the planet who didn't hate Vista? I got along fine with it for six years. Now working on getting used to 8.

If you had to install any special software on it - unprintable.
I used to help out a Pfaff sewing machine dealer. People would buy the new Pfaff embroidery software which is expensive ($1800) Then we would have to try to install it on Vista machines.

I have equivalent Babylock software. It installs on XP, and I don't need to update it, so the XP box is offline. I'm leaving well enough alone. I use locked down 7 on the laptop, and Ubuntu on the online desktop.

Vista is probably the Windows OS ive had most experience with tbh lol. im SO not a pc guy though so i wouldnt know any better :D

The trouble with being in economical times like these is that unions have no power. Theres too many people lining up to take the job. Strikes dont scare an employee as much as they used to

Times like these are when Unions should be MOST relevant. But people are scared to stand for anything, and think that they owe employers for their jobs... When in actuality, the employers are lucky to have good, stable, skilled folks doing their thing and making money for them.

I can see both sides to the union thing. We as EMTs tried to unionize last year (failed), and I work with union nurses.

I see the union protect bad employees that would otherwise be removed from their job for (very) poor performance, while the nurses that work ten times harder and better are paid the same, or less if they don't have seniority, and can only stand in the "seniority line" for better hours, etc.

All the while, since we failed at our unionization attempt, I have earned my dream schedule, and 20% pay increase in the last year or so by being the best employee they have.

You can't earn any more by being a better employee in all the union jobs I'm aware of. That stinks.

There are many plus sides and many minus sides to unions. It ain't black and white.

Anyone who works for a living wage, and a 40 hour work week and benefits should thank the unions. But we forget that part...

Oh yes.

BUT, the unions have changed. And many have popped up that I swear are fronts for the big companies. They don't do diddly but help the workers get screwed.

Yet, I may not have earned the pay increases i did if we didn't scare our employer with the threat of unionization.

It's all a big mess in my eyes.
