Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

http://www.amazon.com/Electric-Fly-Swatter-Racquet-Bug-Zapper/dp/B0000B12FX

Just hold down the button, move gently and slowly through the area where the gnats are.

Takes 2 AA batteries, can severely burn if touched, keep away from children.

My mom bought one of those this summer for the serious stink bug problem they were having. Trust me it's really fun to use!! :D

Works for all kinds of flying critters, etc.

Every time we go over to visit, the little man asks for it and chases his older sister with it. :p

EDIT: Yeah, we should keep it away from the kids. They have a lot of fun with it, so as long as they don't hurt each other. Reminds me of the original Lawn Darts.....

Had a really crappy day at work today. Customers really annoy me sometimes, and mainly its the high school kids that I just want to nevermind. They are so dishonest, ignorant, and cheap. "Let me get a cup for water", and they get Nuka Cola. Thing is, if I give them a cup, they get something other than water, and my manager gets mad.
If I say I can't give water, I get trash talked, and bullied by the customer. I can't say anything back, or else I get fired. Sometimes I just want to strangle them. I think its almost time to quit. I really want a job where I think I will be good, and I can make customers happy, and that would be a job at Micro Center.

The thing about working there, is that it is a major step up from the bottom pit of McDonalds. Much more professional, and I have no experience, no resume, no social skills, no interview skills. What can I do? I know my college can help me with some things.
That's my rant. If you are considering a job at McDonalds ever, it's horrible. I hate my job.

Preach on man. Preach on.

It's almost not worth the money they pay me. It's going to get to the point where I just clock out and leave for the day.

I've been there many times myself before. When you begin to feel miserable at the place you work, it's about time to move on. Just make sure you have something else lined up before you leave.

You know, since you're a college student, you may want to check into the College Career Services program for help, if there's one available for your campus. It also wouldn't hurt to check with an employment agency as well.

Thanks. I well quit by next year. I want to attend workshops provided by my College to be successful in interviews, and building up a strong resume. I am part of a program that will help me a big deal with this.

what really grinds my gears is a father who won't do his responsibility by his baby and love him because his "lifestyle" is ruined. i'm more ashamed to say that he is my brother. :(

i also have little respect for a mother who won't stand up to her husband when he is in the wrong.

It sucks, I know.

Just remember a few things:

-- You are working, and this earning (a little) money.
-- This is experience that will go on your resume. Not spectacular, but evidence that you can work and hold down a job.
-- Unfortunately, there are times when you will be bitched out for things that are not your fault and/or out of your control. Best to learn to take the ass-chewing and be content that it really wasn't your fault/problem. But don't let whomever is yelling at you think that you are just waiting them out.
-- We all start at the bottom. It makes us better people if we learn from those experiences and treat those working under us with respect and understanding.

This was just like a pro! :)

On a roll brother... on a roll... ;)

Hey @ bloodbrother I am really sorry you don't enjoy your current job bud. :(

Hmmm but you know what? :)

I believe experience is one of the greatest teachers of all in life... and it looks like you have just gained some great experience. :)

I realise I would make a great teacher / educator and would give 500%. :)

The youngsters seem to really really respect, look up or admire me... I feel at home here.

I feel very happy and comfortable there - I feel so at home.

The work even though it is very hard and can very tiring (it is a hell of a lot of hard work to keep them satisfied) is extremely rewarding to see them go home happy as Larry. :D

Best part of my day. :)

The also like the way I help them with homework and sometimes wish the teachers would be that understanding and "don't stress! you can do it! It will get better! :) you'll see!" kind of approach.

I give freedom too... but "controlled freedom" or what I like to call "don't set the curtains on fire freedom. :D"

I taught the 2 that were in Grade 4 some very basic Algebra to show them how easy it is and explained to them that they just learned something from Grade 8. ;)

It doesn't matter how "small" - they still understood it.

Isn't it interesting how so many of us don't see how bright we really are at times? ;)

We trick ourselves into believing something that is just not real at the end of the day.

They were really happy to hear it. :D

Good... me too...

:-)

It is a very rewarding job to me.

I really don't care how much teachers / educators get paid - I don't care. :)

:D

As I long as I don't starve hahaha!

xD

EDIT:

I agree with you sfbloodbrother - it does sound very bad! :(

But look on the bright side sfbloodbrother dude. :)

You might have been fired already for God knows what.

Maybe it is not as bad as you think it is? :)

Also in the short term -is there not some kind of surveillance or monitoring system that can PROVE to your manager that these people are doing what they are doing by STEALING Nuko Cola and NOT PAYING for it even though you told them water only please?

They will be caught on camera.

Because then you just call the police! :D

Guess those fast food places are the last that take anything on trust. Everything else gets RFID coded, or wrapped in plastic that you can't open.

The machines do need to have the water tab bigger and easier to be seen. I've hit Iced Tea when in a rush. Threw that out, I wanted ice water.

I hate being called out to a plane for one thing only top find it's an entirely different problem.

Now I don't have the parts to do a proper fix and will have to defer a system.

I feel your pain, brother. I've worked in thankless jobs like that and eventually I had to move on. Just to add to the list by Dngrsone: If you can handle a job at Micky D's, then you can handle a job anywhere.

:)

I had one guy come to my desk. He reached over and grabbed one of my good pens (I have plenty of regular pens at my desk). No, he didn't even ask to use a pen, just reached right over. He then proceeded to walk out with it. I got that pen from a particular event, and I liked it.

Why didn't you tell him?

I'm annoyed with people who blow hot and cold. One minute you're the center of their world, and the next you're thrown out with the trash.

Seriously, why does my 1st grade son's homework require purchases? I'm not talking about crayons, pencils, and normal school suppies, but Etch-a-Sketches, sidewalk chalk, graphing paper, and the like. Never mind the annoyance of trying to run a household and having to run out and buy crap so he can do his homework, what about the folks that don't have the $15 to buy an Etch-A-Sketch or a box of sidewalk chalk?

Why would they need that

Why would they need that

Yeah, that's my question. But that is how the homework is assigned. No alternatives. I can get the point about making vocab fun for the kids, but I know there are parents that are trying to figure out a way to get dinner on the table due to either money or time, this is just defeating the purpose.

I've sent notes in stating that if something other than paper, crayons, pens is needed the school, or teacher, can supply it. And added the note that if her grade suffered then I'd be calling the principal and superintendent for a meeting. Homework like that stopped getting assigned.
