Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Yeah. So, you think that one button mouse approach in iOS will ever catch on with desktop machines? Oh wait. :D :D

I'd be curious about your reasons behind your opinion that an inferior operating system is ahead - I say I'd, not I'm, as in I would be curious. But not today. [emoji14]
Yes ios is stale, boring, under performed, overpriced, and less durable than a thin piece of glass it's pretty bad.

I'm looking at accessories that ios, and then the ones android has. Android is getting better yes. Just bought a keyboard to use with my note! (surface still has best keyboard)

I guess I'm saying that it's easier for everyone to make an accessory for an iPhone rather than all different shapes and sizes of android phones... You know what I would like for my Moto g? One of those extra battery cases that gives you like an extra 3000 mh of battery, and it's a case. But they do not make them for moto g do they? I know that iPhone has one.

There are people who prefer records to tapes or DVDs, and some pro-tube TV holdouts. Otherwise Crosley would go out of business.

That being said, with the graphics prowess of current flagship devices, it is a crying shame to have to accept a UI that made sense in an era where 640k of RAM was 'all you'll ever need' to coin a phrase.

I'm just glad Google is bringing the polish back, bit by bit. Anything to shatter the flat design era shows hope for me at least.

Most kids today still know what a cassette tape is, or what Pac-Man was. what is odd is that despite those facts, hardly anyone under the age of 30 knows what the Popples, Wuzzles, SWAT Kats or Heathcliff were, yet it doesn't stop DVD sales of the cartoons!

Let us not forget that there are lots of younger folks who still prefer classic television and simpler shopping experiences that are being done away with by modern super marts and crappy reality TV. Obviously the stance that younger folks cant appreciate the old is a myth. Obviously there are plenty who thought the era of augmented reality which skeuomorphism was shifting towards was more futuristic than a rehash of an interface from the '80s

Speaking of 80s design. Wasn't the use of geometric shapes (hint new navbar) also a thing in the '80s?

Yeh, abstract shapes and colours, think it was known as Saved By The Bell style, after the TV show that popularized it. Made a reappearance 2 years ago briefly.

Talking of retro and old things, what's with store displays and ancient TV sets all of a sudden?

That's a black & white 1970s DongFeng with rabbit ears.

They trying to pretend that (probably fake) New Balance sneakers might be something antique?

I've seen a lot of this, this year.

Just because you can't find it in a Best Buy does not mean they are not made:

frustrated trying to figure out what this warning light means. back in the day it meant 'danger you can damage this' on some electronic gadget. i know it means 'something's wrong' but no Check Engine light, just this triangle!

looks like this.

Car seems to run fine though. just this light in the dash is lit.

I feel fat, though I'm probably not but I just don't wanna accept it. I'm 19. I'm 5 foot 8 inches. I weigh 160 lb. I want to lose weight or if I can turn that fat into muscle.

Think you're supposed to take it to the dealership, they plug-in their manufacturer's diagnostic machine, and tell you what the problem is. Then they tell you it's showing error code "74B" and it will cost you $700 to put it right.

"No user serviceable parts inside."

For the first time in decades we have a fake Christmas tree. Well, my wife got these pine scented things for ambiance. Well, she put all six on the tree, and it smells like I massacred every pine in Siberia and stuffed them into my living room. My eyes are watering.

A fake Christmas tree is more appealing than a fake Gucci handbag.

MikeDT this isn't the 'Check Engine light'. no codes unless that comes on. not sure about China, but in the US, the one that makes you scan for codes looks like this.

although 99% of the time an O2 sensor or loose gas cap is the cause of that one. Although in the 80's there were confusing dashes with TWO check engine lights:

This is just the warning triangle. to me that means 'danger! danger!' but that's because the symbol used to be placed on the back of electronics next to one with a lightning bolt inside a triangle meaning 'caution!' so i am not sure what it means on automobiles.

Never a sure meaning online searching. some mention it having something to do with traction control, but in those cases it's only lit when you're about to skid. other times it lights when there's a problem with the system. but if there are problems i'd also get a nice little 'TRAC OFF' in the message center followed by the 'reduced engine power light' which looks like this:

i got neither of those plus i'm nowhere near skidding. the triangle just comes on and stays on until i shut the engine down. no maintenance messages showing up in the message center either.

It's very vague. apparently Google helped work on Saturn IONs as well. now i know the inspiration for obscure notification icons on Lollipop

Check the owners manual?

Odd. Not only is the specific warning not listed (a warning triangle with exclamation point.) But the compass/temp display saying 'ICE' isn't listed, either.

I know my car came with factory XM radio but that doesn't work. The button on the stereo does nothing. Had to buy a Sirius XM unit and use an FM transmitter or pay a dealer $400 to fix the broken stereo. But I doubt it caused the triangle warning light. Car drives fine!

There is a ignition recall issue but save for a few times when the key got stuck in ACC and I couldn't shut the engine off, I haven't had issues with the PASSlock system it references. That has its own warning light

Yeah the one that looks like this (!) Also says 'brake' below it.

Turn the key on I get the engine, abs, charge, oil, reduced engine power, seat belt, pass lock, brake, airbag, triangle light. The triangle light stays on. The rest go out.
