Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Yeah, you won't believe the number of folks we have come in with that light on when the weather gets colder.
Tire pressure drops below the threshold and trips the light. :)

The TPMS system is so fracking annoying. The light has always been on in my dad's 99 Toyota Sienna since he bought the thing. It doesn't matter what the tire pressure is, the light is on. And their 2006 Chrysler 300C has it as well, only it's a whole lot more obtrusive. It will flash in and overrule your in-dash computer so the only thing you can see is the TPMS warning until you reset it. Tires are fine.

I've been using the Forums for Android app for a couple of days, all ads I've seen are for Estee Lauder, BMW or Samsung, not Filipino dating. Ads are very regional of course.

I bought that case for my phone. Estimated delivery... January 15. It doesn't take a while month (30) days ago I deliver a small package.

Yeah, you don't want to know what our German visitors got last time this happened.

Reactions: huh
pulling the bulb for the check engine light is better looking than tape. whatever caused the warning had something to do with freezing weather, as it got above it today and the light went out

it wasn't a TPMS light. a little comparison.

Low Tire pressure light, standard on all 2008 and newer vehicles.

I interpret this is 'random malfunction' as it didn't impair anything about drivability. could also be a weather related issue alert that coincides with the ice alert in my mirror display, which is less noticeable. in temps below 37 degrees my compass is replaced with

neither this or the warning triangle were mentioned in the PDF. Although BMW uses both the triangle with exclaimation point as well as one with triangle with snowflake so perhaps Saturn is doing similar?

As I said earlier, check your pressures all the way around. In cold weather the moisture in the air in your tire condenses and you tire is underinflated. Warms up and the moisture espands. What it means is your tire PSI is on the edge. Get rid of the warning for good and inflate your tires to the recommeded PSI.;)

My first car just had low oil and engine overheat warning lights, and that was it. I took the bulbs out and they never bothered me again.

Think there's many in this country that disconnect the annoying fasten seatbelts beeper.

my car has no TPMS. That didn't become standard until 2008. mine is a 2005

Consider yourself blessed. I've never liked TPMS. Fortunately I haven't had any issues with my Fusion's TPMS though.

China's not alone there. :P I had the seatbelt light disabled in my old car.

In my dad's truck, we disabled the neutral safety switch that keeps you from engaging the starter without pushing the clutch.

Actually Mike, you may be right. If this is his dash image:

I'm not seeing the normal TPMS symbol there:

That was required by law following the Fraud Exploder recall in the early aughts, that may just be what that symbol it is. Nick, check the tire pressure all the way around and see if it turns off.

Just had a thought as to what it might be, something that I don't think has been mentioned yet, and as that Nick's car apparently doesn't have traction control. Possibly the brake fluid is low or maybe the pads need replacing, given that this light looks like it has something to do with brakes.

I posted this before:
I had a funny with the Tacoma. Warning about the emergency brake. The light telling me the brake was engaged stayed on. Since it pulls out from under the dashboard, you could see it was disengaged. We looked in the manual, online ---- at the brake itself ---- at the wiring---

BTW, the fluid wasn't down far enough to cause a warning for the regular brakes. Hasn't gone on since in over 14 years. We've kept the fluid level up.

It was the same light as emergency brake on. The truck is a 96 Toyota, so no fancies.

It has been noted as a problem in other cars besides Toyota. Some Tundras had to add fluid, others has another solution.

There is a paragraph about testing there. If that is your problem, you might see a change in the light. Read the manual and see about the switch.

the ION 3 has Traction control. it even has a 'disable' button on the dash. i leave it on. as far as i know it works. according to the PDF if it malfunctioned i'd get 'TRAC OFF' or 'LOW TRAC' on my message center.

old 80s Ford LTD Crown Victorias with EFI had TWO 'Check Engine' lights one said 'Engine' with an icon of an engine, and the other said 'Check Engine' words only. confusing. on carbed models the latter said 'Check Oil' instead.

Brake warning light is not a triangle with exclamation point. Brake warning is shown in the cluster diagram here:

my mystery light, as i am now calling my 'hazardous weather warning' (only time it comes on it seems) is between the fuel/temp and speedo, on a similar quadrant where the brake warning is.

For some reason I didn't see your post before my previous one. I think in conjunction with the ICE in your mirror it may be indicating that the traction control is active. You can see the traction control off light on the bottom left of the pic I posted. That's the same as my RAM, so I'd guess that is universal.

I have resigned myself to use Chrome to visit AF (on the phone). It's a mobile-based GUI, and, it seems to work well. Well, it's official - my better half made it to Denver, and I get to spend the Holidays alone... again. I have a Border Collie (Laddy), and an Irish Setter mix (Java) to keep me company, and the laptop with my software-based recording studio to do some musical work... I'm going to upload a file that mirrors how I feel inside. I hope it works. May all of you - moderators, guides, contributors, and all members enjoy your Sunday, and if you live in a part of the world where it is already Monday, welcome to the week - LW

Well, the upload didn't work... I suppose you can't upload mp3s here, as it was only a 5.7 mB file. I'm on the computer now, to give my eyes a rest. In my last post, I welcomed everyone who had already arrived at Monday to the week; though, technically, the week begins Sunday. Here's another attempt at uploading an mp3, with one of my favorite Beatles tunes. Wish me good luck! LW

It looks like my attempt didn't work... maybe a moderator can assist me in how to upload mp3s. Thanks for everyone's patience - LW

I'm not sure if there is a way to upload and embed an mp3. I see your file for download, I'm not sure that's what you want though.
