Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

How some new devices get added but others don't!
The lg stylo gets its own forum but the prevail LTE doesn't...........

How the hell can you get any devopment on a device when their isn't a place to talk about it!
Its the one thing that pisses me off about this site. They will add a phone by a company no one has ever heard of and the forum says dead, but then they ignore other devices that people want to work with........

Frankly most discussion of third-party custom development takes place on XDA Devs. So if you can't find what you're looking for here, XDA is likely the place to look. :thumbsupdroid:

Oppo Find 7 has a heck of a lot of development going for it, that's a main reason why I choose it, and AF does have a forum for that particular device, but it's almost deserted. Probably 99% of all on-line discussion takes place on Oppo Forums, i.e. the manufacturer's own board, as well as XDA.

Devs have to be actually interested in doing custom work for a particular device. If it's just yet another entry-level, mid-range device amongst hundreds of others, it's difficult for it to stand out and grab their attention.

Sometimes the manufacturer themselves really go to town on encouraging third-party development for their devices, e.g. OnePlus. They provide full information and data, and very importantly don't void warranty for rooting and custom ROMs, unlike LG or Samsung

If the phone doesn't get any development, it's not because of this website....it's because nobody buys it.

I'm pretty sure it's a new entry level Samsung Galaxy device (not LG).

And now he's pissed at AF for not having a subforum for a phone whose manufacturer he doesn't even know?

I've seen plenty of phones with a ton of buyers that don't get much development. That would include the Moto X. And I'm not seeing where he didn't know the phone manufacturer.;)

And, FWIW, a new forum request has been made by another member for the Prevail LTE.

^ This...I mean there can be a lot of hype surrounding a device or its super affordable then come to find out its locked down with no hope or all known exploits are patched or whatever the case may be...plus the developer to end user ratio has to be acknowledged, there's only so many developers(and only so many devices these folks can take on.) while the android hardware line continues to grow exponentially.

I personally always wait for a device to come out and see what kind of Dev following it'll have or I'll buy something that I can say with some certainty will have development like a Moto series or a Nexus for example.

We as end users, contributors or whatever can't expect just because we buy a phone there will be development for it. We have a responsibility to do some due diligence before investing our money in a device that may not even get root. [emoji106]

You might visit the root forums for some of the less expensive phones here.

You may be surprised to find that quite a few devs work here and then link to us from XDA.

The original Prevail was definitely more than quite active with original development done right here - on the forums that you're a guide for.

And you'll find dev teams with some primarily here and some primarily there, because they wisely want to cover all of the bases.

We're all the same Android community and it's true that some a great many phones have dev work there - it's where I usually commit dev contributions, in large part so there's no question of forum favoritism.

Please make a note of it before driving people away.

While it's true that mods and members from both sides work cooperatively, it's also true that we each have a responsibility to our members and to Android.

XDA is a developer forum that doesn't turn away user support.

We're a user forum that doesn't turn away dev support.

Or members who point out when we dropped the ball.

I had the original Prevail. It was the last phone we had that you could root, and have a bootloader that would utilize CWM, or TWRP.

Until the money tree bears some more fruit, we're stuck with an LG LS720 that has a locked bootloader, and while you can bring root, the ext2 memory prevents you from doing anything else.

I tried every trick in the book, aside from doing a VM rom install that would render the external camera useless.

Thank you, Beast Mobile... my rant. LW

I didn't call it an lg phone! Go check your eyes and read it again..........
I called it the Prevail LTE.
It is a Samsung device, I made no mention of its manufacturer.

Once again, in the doctor's office waiting room... tomorrow I have appointments with my new psychiatrist and my therapist, so it'll be more of the same thing, just a different office.
Bummer rant.
My lovely lady seems to have had a non-solution issue with her therapist. My guy is good - he gives me things to shoot for, but my panic attacks still occur.
C'mon, psychiatrist! Prescribe something with no zombie side effects, and I'll be a happier camper.
Thank you to 'da forums' for my 'Talk Of The Town' trophy, and thank you, fellow members, for liking my posts.
End of rant - positivity at the final paragraph.

My phone does this thing periodically, where it loses connectivity for an amount of time. I think it's something that the update alerter is doing to convince me to update my phone.

So I typed a message in here yesterday and never posted it.

Now every time I go to post, it's filled in by default and I have to erase it. Anybody know how to clear this?

Click the little floppy disc icon on the right end of the reply box icons and choose Delete Draft. Then close the tab. It should get rid of it. I've made two assumptions. A) You know what a floppy disc is.:D B) You are as frustrated as I was about the stupid text getting stuck.;)

What's officially grinding my gears now is the new Colonel Sanders for the KFC adverts...he comes off like a stereotypical southern type with a strange twist of paedophile. Kind of skeeves me out.
Yeah, I thought it was disrespectful that they hired Darrell Hammond to portray him as a clown. I'm sure the real Colonel's family can't be too happy about it. He seems like he was an interesting character.

Did they kill off the new Hamburglar yet? Talk about creepy. :p
