Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

The constant onslaught of "Can you" questions from one's significant other... Can I sit down for a few minutes please!? Are your legs broken?? FFS!

The Vulcan does that. If you want something, he's gotta finish what he's doing first or he gets grumpy for the rest of the day.
If he wants something, he stands around behind or next to you and keeps bugging you to do whatever it was RIGHT NOW!

My rant:

Direct communication that should come easy, in the form of a request, without the antagonistic 'digs' like "Could you...", like zuben demonstrated.

I like lovespeak. It gets me off of my @$$ in a hurry. LW

I've noticed something irritating... When connected to WiFi (using Chrome) I'm accosted by popups on sites and forums that never used to have them(and don't have them on mobile data). I've also noticed in line adverts on Tapatalk and various other apps...I don't mind advertising, I know the bills have to be paid but it just feels like I cant even open my calculator without an advertisement. (OK slight exaggeration) But it does negatively impact my experience as a user... [emoji53]

I learned something as relates to this(after years)...people will only get away with what you allow...if one initially caters to their S.O. then you're establishing a behavior... If you continue to be at their beck and call then you're just reinforcing it. There's a fine line between good manners/considerate behavior and personal servitude. You just have to know where to draw that line.

Tapatalk has changed their game and it's only getting worse.

Your mobile carrier may be blocking some of the more toxic ad sites - not really sure.

Unrelated but my rant -

Passive aggressive holier than thou whining from imbeciles who think that they're just so clever that you won't get it, whose fallback position is that they just have to repeat themselves until you understand - because in their little world, if you understood, you'd agree. And probably be sorry.

No. I understood the first time, I explained myself right up front - once - and I'm not going to waste time with you.

Feeling that you're right doesn't make you right - very often the world is not even about who's right, no matter what you want to believe.

Get over yourself.

That message won't get through to anyone, never has, never will, but I do feel better knowing that I've ranted about it. :D

I stopped using Tapatalk when they changed their UI some months back.

The pop-up ads are downright annoying in many of Google's free apps, too. Chrome has changed drastically as a browser, since they announced their new EULA, dropped Java support, and started tracking users in a hardcore fashion.

This is what makes developers step up their
game, in order to block scripts that create what
Avast calls 'grime'...

EarlyMon is right - people need to get over themselves, and be more tolerant. I work at this, with therapy and keeping journals.

EarlyMon, starkraving, andruoid, whitehat, everyone - may tomorrow bring us all some wonderment. :)

It bothers a lot of people on limited bandwidth plans. You can get 300MB per month free on TMO. Having huge ads eat up your time for checking email or doing a limited lookup on the internet is a PITA.

I do see some ads on websites - I keep phone and tablet set as desktop. I ignore them.

The in app ads can be dicey. They are mostly clean, but I've seen some for escort services and the like I wouldn't want to see on a phone for a child. So far, they stay either on the top or bottom of the page. I mostly have paid apps and don't game or use apps like Tapatalk. I prefer to go through a browser than an app.

If the new marketing plan with malls only involves the store's app and your device, that's one thing. You installed it, so it's your choice. If you have to remember to turn off the phone, bluetooth and wifi to keep your phone's battery from being depleted, since you aren't interested, that's another story and invasive. Since many of us ignore the ads, the ads are getting more intrusive. There will have to be a stop somewhere. If you can't use Tapatalk because of the ads, Tapatalk and the marketers are both losing out. So far, no one has seemed to realize that. There is a point of no return. That point of no return got rid of the "blinkies" years ago.

I can't find a lot of things I want locally. I have to use Amazon or a specialty website. Local ads, therefore, mean nothing. I get notices via email from the stores I do use. The stores I use are getting a return from the ads via email even if I ignore the online ads. The stores also know how well the products or marketing are doing from email responses rather than click throughs. Most are now asking how you heard about the product or sale.

This will lead to more "as seen on" TV type trashy, loud and in your face ads. Some agency or whoever will eventually have to find a solution to the problem to pay for services. The worse the ads get, the more people will ignore them.

More people are also researching to get the best buy on items, so brand loyalty is becoming less of a factor.

Yesterday I went through the drive-thru at Arby's & ordered a turkey bacon ranch wrap (it comes as either a sandwich or a wrap). When they gave me the bag with my food in it, I peeked inside & saw it wasn't the wrap, it was the sandwich - so I pointed out the error & handed the bag back. The employee told me I could just keep it & they'd make me the wrap, otherwise they'd have to throw the sandwich away anyway. I still gave it back because I wasn't going to eat it & couldn't bear to take it just to throw it away.

Why on earth would they have to throw something away that I hadn't even unwrapped or touched? I basically just peeked into the top of the bag & looked inside, & could tell from what I saw that it was the sandwich & not the wrap. It irritates me that we have such stupid rules about food in places like this.

I remember a few years ago, there was a Pizza Hut in the Target I used to shop at, one time I wanted some bread sticks or something & they said they'd make me fresh ones because the ones that were in the warmer were almost due to be thrown away - apparently they have a set amount of time (10 or 15 mins or whatever) & they need to toss them... makes NO sense to me.

There are a number of reasons; the highly litigious nature of Americans being near the top of the list.

Additionally (or perhaps coincidentally), freshness is an important factor. particularly for those shops which advertise that they don't make it until you order it.

Yeah I get that... to a point. It just seems like logic & common sense are thrown out the window in some cases.

The breadsticks were in little boxes/cartons & I'm sure were fine even if they were "expired" by 1 minute, I just wanted a little snack & seeing them throw away perfectly good ones to make me wait while they made fresh ones seemed ludicrous.

The Arby's employee yesterday was right there & saw that I didn't even put my hand into the bag, so it seems idiotic not to give that to someone else if the same order was placed in the next 5 minutes, instead of tossing it.

Unfortunately, regulation and common sense are often polar opposites.

If you think that level of waste is bad... well, for your own sanity, don't ask what happens to food that's gone past it's 'best by' date.

For that matter, don't look into what happens to toys that are removed from their packaging at that backwards R store.

Ha, toys I don't care so much about, but the food is the thing that bugs me. I don't expect everything to get shipped off to the "starving kids in Africa" but it would be nice to see some common sense being used.

I was actually more concerned that when they made my sandwich the right way, someone might have done something nasty to it for saying it was wrong to begin with.

As Dngrsone wrote, it has to do with potential lawsuits.

Here's what I would have done, had I been close to our State capital:

Many panhandlers are scattered throughout the city. I'd have kept the sandwich, and given it to a homeless person, or a person that appeared to be 'needy'.

Homeless people are human beings, too. I've been down that road, myself - clean and sober.

With things like Jaden Helm 15 in the news, one cannot help but shudder in fear. My rant - for what it's worth. LW

The obscene amount of food waste where I live is ridiculous. (Las Vegas)Consider every casino has at least one buffet and there's dozens of stand alones all over town, not to mention the normal fast food and various restaurants. At the end of the dinner service can you imagine what's leftover? Sadly as mentioned above due to liability these places have no option but to simply toss it in the dumpster. It kind of gives me a ping of sadness knowing there's over 7000 unhoused homeless and hungry in my city not to mention those who live in the shelters. We are a society of excess and waste who are so restricted by regulations generated out of fear of litigation that our hands are tied...way to go frivolous lawsuit seeking peeps and ambulance chasing lawyers...you've inadvertantly starved some of your fellow human beings. Well done a$$holes.

How some new devices get added but others don't!
The lg stylo gets its own forum but the prevail LTE doesn't...........

How the hell can you get any devopment on a device when their isn't a place to talk about it!
Its the one thing that pisses me off about this site. They will add a phone by a company no one has ever heard of and the forum says dead, but then they ignore other devices that people want to work with........

Is it one of these?

Or is there another one?

If there is a device that needs a forum, just ask in the Suggestion Box and I'm sure it can be added. That's usually how Phases finds out that new forums are needed.
