Root RE Previous Post "Fee Apps"

My previous post is locked and am unable to respond, so I'm sending a new post. In regards to my previous post, gmenfan83, your response, although I did not find rude, definitely made me feel uncomfortable with my question. I will attempt to do more research before I post questions so you do not get the impression I'm attempting to "steal" from anyone especially those who have worked hard to share their creations. I apologize if my intentions came across this way.

I asked that question because I have only heard of "jailbreaking" with the iPhone which will allow apps and such to be downloaded without purchase. I have never altered a stock phone, so rooting is new to me. I didn't know if this was the same thing. It has been made VERY clear to me they are not.

I am no way implying that developers do not deserve payment for what they create. If there is an app that requires purchase I respect that.

Again, sorry and thanks to you and Greavous for the quick response.

since you didnt understand the android world im sure it is ok, if you are coming from an iphone in the point to where you get free apps from jailbreaking, and from downloading torrent apps then its understandable, the android community will not bash you, your topic was locked due to the way you asked the question im sure, but the only free apps are in the market, i personally purchase most apps that some devs create because as a themer i know it takes time to create stuff like that. but there are ways to which your asking, i will not say them nor discuss them, i know how to do it, but i will not, only because of the time, and patience it takes to create these great apps we use, its worth the $1 - $2 you will spend to support the dev.

I apologize if my response made you uncomfortable as it was not my intentions ....we are all friends around here and that's why I added the not to be rude part ....there was really no other way to explain it ....again I did not intend to make you feel uncomfortable in any manner and as I said this is a great community and if you ever have a question your uncertain about feel free to pm me or gtalk as well as the other great contributors to this community

I didnt read your previous posts but here is the android\iphone breakdown

Jailbreaking = way to put paid apps as free on your iphone (and install non market apps)
Rooting= admin rights to your phone...some of the apps you would want like free wifi tethering ARE available on the market anyway as free...but requires root(admin rights).

PS you dont even have to be rooted to install an app you have not gotten from the market (an apk file)...just go into settings\manage apps\ and check the box to allow off market\aka unknown sources installations...and you will be able to install (at your own risk) any apk's you find off of the market without even rooting.

Android has a ton of good stuff for free...what things that do cost..you will want to support to keep them coming (its not like the apple store where its got these large companies sucking in money from the people).

yes these are actual people developing an app to put there name out there, it takes time out of their day to support this stuff, like crazy alien and his battmonx, if it was a paid app, i would buy it, because he took time out of his life to develope something we all can use and utilize.

lol...now, I want to change my name to crazy alien (I think I like that better! :D).

Props to all of you, OP included, for re-posting and discussing the question.

This is why I choose to hang-out here with all of my AF friends. :)

Cheers!

How about "crazy scary alien"? :D ;)

nah...I'd have too many references in threads and web pages to change...:p

:D You guys are too funny. I didn't see the OP before this one, but I love the way this community goes out of the way to be sure everyone has a voice and gets the info they need.

Props to all! Have a great day. Crazy indeed! Lol

OP,

I totally get what you were trying say, now. All a big misunderstanding. You're talking about 3rd party apps, right?

So, settings-applications-enable 3rd party apps.

Warmest welcome to Android Forums!

Steven

LOL. It took me a bit to figure out what "OP" meant. When I got to this thread it clicked....little slow but when I get it, I get it. ;)

3rd party apps are the ones from the market, right? Man, I'm making this so confusing. I have a DX and went to settings/application settings. Are you saying to check "unknown sources"?

Oh, and thanks for the warm welcome. I'm sure I've made quite an impression. :D

3rd party apps are ones that you download the .apk for. for example if you are rooted on ApeX's rom or any other, if there is something they took out you want back in, you get the .apk file from their sources and install it to your sdcard. From there, you open it and install but the "allow 3rd party apps" must be selected otherwise they won't install. Ones in the Market are not considered 3rd party apps.

Thanks draconius. I don't quite get it, but am still trying to learn rooting. Maybe after I root the phone, the rest will slowly fall into place. Appreciate the additional clarification though.
