Root Recoveries (Clockwork & Amon)

well that is all we have besides clockwork mod for us 3vo users. twrp is pretty good. it has some of the capacitative touch buttons working. you can create a flashing que and tell the recovery in what order you want the zip files to be flashed. in the install zip menu you can wipe dlavik cache and cache from there. the wipe menu also has all of the options that amon ra has. when you make a nandroid backup you can compress the file if you want to save room, but it takes waaaaaay longer if you do. all in all i really like this recovery.

what do you like the best about twrp?

for me it is the easy of use. it has everything where you would think it would need to go, it can make a list of zips that you want to flash, as ocn said compressing nandroids with i like a lot!!!!!, it really is just better for me anyway. but i would reccomend it over amon and cmw. the only prob is compatability with ext4 roms, but there arent many of those so not a big deal

Firstly I'd like to say AMON RA is the beez neez! Small question. I know you can 'rename' a nandroid back up in both CWM and AMON, but to what extent? Usually I just add the current name of the ROM to the end of the nandroid and delete the previous one. Can I completely rename the name of the nandroid for the AMON recovery?

yes you can.just do not use any weird symbols and no spaces in the name. i just rename it with the rom it is on and the date.

so a nandroid for mikg would be mikg3.0-12202011

THANKS! Extremely helpful! Before I started adding the name on the end I would be stuck in recovery thinking which nandroid was the nandroid I wanted to restore, lol. :)

I think it ought to be in the rooting sticky now, up to date and all, you know?

you could stick it in your evo troubleshooting guide too!

I added in my rooting gb with amon ra:p

dont forget about TWRP!!!! the best in my opinion and has lots of cool features none of the others have!!!

The only drawback to TWRP right is ext3 backup/restore. Unfortunately, if you are partitioned with another recovery, TWRP will not recognize ext3. So if you're going to use this recovery and have a partitioned sdcard, it's best to start fresh with the partition and TWRP;)
