[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

anyone thought of this: maybe with 4g plans they'll make it unlimited 3g, and then you get X amount of 4G gb with whatever tiered 4g plan you decide to buy?

so for an example:
for $25 a month you buy 1-2gigs 4G/unlimited 3G

since apparently 4G rapes data they'd still have you locked in underthat, but the unlimited 3G would still lure lots of people in and when people start streaming netflix all month they'll be in for a nasty surprise...

just a random thought

maybe something new came up

from what i can piece together with info from Ben5 and BMX in the last couple days, it sounds like the 4G issue is worked out in SoCal (where BMX is) but still having issues in other cities.

Been workng... lot to do. Will address Tony's comments later.. device is fine.. LTE issues are small nuggles that aren't network wide

black_man_x The Mobile Panda
@huntken option being explored but device is so dependent on 4g and other tech it woudlnt be worth launching in only half the markets

Love my team.. but for major markets not to be ready is appalling. Socal is done but others aren't?? Half the teams beefing up cdma for??

black_man_x The Mobile Panda
remember when I asked wnat happens when u take half ur team to beef up existing network for a device n neglect ur new one? This is what..

So everyone is speculating the announcement of the release date on the 15th, and on sale the 17th. What is the Pro for only allowing the general public 2 days notice of it going on sale? Wouldnt they want to generate hype (outside of these forums) for longer than 2 days before it drops??

Easy , lots of tv commercials. And word spreads fast on the web.

Two days = forever in Internet time. :)

Sounds to me like VZW asked HTC to make them an expensive doorstop. LMAO!!

The device does work with 3G, but the point seems that VZW does not want it to (that much) and wants it to be 4G so they can force people into 4G tiered plans.

Seems kind of obvious at this point. If not, release it now and offer 4G to markets that have it and leave 3G for folks that do not. Why not? VZW does NOT want to.

The TB is part of a 3G extermination plan  ;)

Maybe VZW knows there is not enough time to make this happen, so are trying to set the software up to be more 3G friendly? Or maybe not.

Does it really matter anymore? It has been confirmed that the phone will not be released until this Summer!

Can someone speculate on what he possibly means by this?

I would guess things like Skype Video, NetFlix and Simultaneous Voice/Video are all big selling points for this device. However, I am not sure any of that has been confirmed. Those applications / functions would need 4g

Why do you care? You G2 using Tmobiler!;):)

IF VZW wants to force more folks to 4G, they would wait until 4G is in more markets so they can blanket the product as 4G only plans.

The key here all along is getting people AWAY from unlimited data plans and this may be how they "kill off" us grandfathered folks too. Offer ONLY 4G tiered plans for all top level devices- even for us grandpappie unlimited folks.

Scandal!!!!

Why do I care? Because I just recently moved to Montana, and T-Mobile's service there is horrible! I get at least 10 dropped calls a day, text messages are delivered a day late, voice mails are the same, and 3G speeds are horrible!

Big Red is the dominant network up here, and I don't want to get an outdated android! That's why I am so anxious about this phone! If I am going to switch (and possibly pay ETF in the process), I better get a phone that will be relevant for more than a few days...

Catch is most may not afford it ;)

May come to the point it is better to have a cheap smart phone and a small tablet for media- using wifi. Tell VZW and all of them to bite the big kahoney! :)

Unless I read it wrong, didn't the CTO came out and said that phones are launching by the second half?

He said PHONES not phone, he said they still are planning to have LTE phones by the second half of 2011. He means more then one, that has nothing to do with when the TB will launch.

I hear ya! I am on TMO but luckily a am in a major market and usually have no problems with reception or anything. But I have the G1 and it is on it's last leg. That and I am about to be added to my gf's VZ plan. Since she is currently in CA it would be nice to be able to take advantage of the free VZ to VZ minutes instead of her having to keep increasing her plan.

Unfortunately, the lover of technology that I am, I do not want to end up with an outdated phone, especially since I have had the G1 since launch and I really only have interest in the TB at this point.
