Root Removing the Virgin Mobile Boot Logo

I personally don't plan on activating it. I purchase phones, refurb them and resell them being rooted, etc.

I couldn't find a custom ROM specifically for an Optimus U so I flashed it with the referenced ROM. Seems to work good, except for the Virgin Mobile startup logos and now the MMS problem that I've just learned of.

Do you plan on activating the phone? You must be running stock/froyo when you do.......

Also that ROM is for the optimus V, MMS wouldn't work for you with that either :p

I may be able to use the firmware of the U to fix MMS if I flash my V with it....making my V become a U...and then I dump some files to use to fix apns
If you can find a U rom then that will work as well, but getting that firmware will probably help us both out.

NetSpeedZ,

Do you have the Optimus V from Virgin Mobile? If not, you might want to change that in your user CP to read Optimus U. When volunteers here give assistance they do look at that, and you don't want someone to inadvertently give you the wrong instructions. If you do have the V, maybe you could put "Optimus V&U" in there.

That would not work as I could have a dozen different phones at any given time. I refurb them, root and flash custom ROM's. When I get a new phone (like the LG Optimus U) and haven't run across something, I ask.

Ahhhhh, Ok. That makes sense. ;)

I find it very confusing to see a mixture of help topics for other phones in the V section is all.

Replaced the BOBZ custom ROM with Backside. Although, the Virgin Mobile boot logos are gone, I have the same problem with the Backside boot logos. Some would find this boot logo offensive (like myself) and would not work. So I'm back to the beginning. How can a boot logo be replaced?

I read in some posts that FlashImageGUI can be used for this changing of boot logos, however, when I start it, the option to change the boot logo does not appear. :(

That would be in the boot.img.....it's pretty hard to fix that..try replacing it with the boot.img from backside, but it's better to not do this as most of the devs build each boot.img to work best with their rom, but it won't hurt you, you just might start getting errors. The boot.img is also the kernel. Only use gingerbread rom's boot.img to try to replace it, don't use froyo or ics ones.

Bad news. Tried to restore the nandroid backup I made of the US Cellular stock ROM, however, its not booting into it. Keeps rebooting into the recovery.

No problem restoring the nandroid backup for BOBZ custom ROM.

If you have any suggestions on what might be the problem so I can get you the stock US Cellular ROM, fire away.

I checked over there, those forums are dead, the Optimus S forums here are also dead. Now androidcentral optimus S users all go to the V section......
S/U/V are all the same except S has home and menu key switched and S is Sprint, V is VM, U is USCellular.......

Now I wonder if I can get a hold of US670 firmware somehow to use to make this unbrick method I was talking about before......

Be careful with what firmware you flash on the v. I bricked my test phone...

Could you upload a copy of your stock/rooted nandroid?

This discussion on the U needs to move over to the U All Things Root sub-forum. Dead or not it can't help those members with a U if it's here. Even though you might not have a lot of members posting over there, you still might get a member read the discussion and benefit from it. They can't while discussion is here.
And....this is the V ATR sub-forum.
If you need help with the U come on over and give a holler. Then move discussion back to U forum.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

You can flash a V froyo ROM and it should work, as long as you're on some kind of froyo.

One, I could port a rom to the u, two I could fix mms.

Maybe you can support the U people ;)
