Root Retrieving your MSL (ENABLE WIN 7 HIDDEN ADMIN)

When going into download mode and those 3 drivers are installing, LGE AndroidNet USB Modem keeps failing. Is that not one of the two drivers that pop up in zip files after installing the drivers with LGMobile Support Tool or just forget about those two zipped ones?

Edit: Just found it showing up under Modems in Device Manager even though it says it failed. Restarting computer before heading any further.

Nope, zipped up turns out 750KB...

That driver fails in download mode. Shouldn't effect anything

Can I go ahead and try to check the bin as soon as it starts on the second one or do I have to wait for the whole thing to be done? Like the fifth time I'm trying this and this last time it was 767KB zipped.

When phone is in download mode, LGE CDMA USB Modem (two of them) take forever to finish installing and when it does. Only one installs and the other fails. The one that installs is LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port(Com 4). What am i doing wrong?

So far everyone is saying that is normal. I had the same thing but my bin keeps turning out corrupt (under 1MB zipped).

Yep, again. Not sure what to do different to try again.

I'm actually on Windows 7 32bit...so 64bit shouldn't be the problem, it's probably at some step somewhere we are screwing up.

Win7 64bit here, also tried on a WinXP 32bit install (but that was a virtual computer, not an actual one). No idea what's wrong.

Yeah, I'm about to give up for the night. I keep getting the same results no matter what I do, change ports, rate, reboot, unplug, etc etc.

For some reason, when I click "Install USB Driver", the Mobile Support Tool does absolutely nothing. I can go through the menus and download it, but then it doesn't install, and I have no idea where it's downloading the file to.

OK, found where it downloads to, also, for some reason, I unplugged my phone and it let me install the USB driver immediately. Did it exactly like the guide at the beginning, just had to have the phone unplugged to install the driver. Once I get that installed, I'll see if it lets me dump the memory properly.

[edit] Nope, still not working. I'm gonna go to bed before I end up destroying my computer, my phone, or both. [/edit]

First thing to try, in QPST config delete and add the port again. Sometimes even though it's the same damn port you have to readd the port.

Now everyone, I know you're frustrated, I know this sucks but

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME RE-MAKING BINS IF THE FIRST IS UNDER 1MB. TRUST ME, IT WILL NOT MAGICALLY FIX ITSELF WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE ROOT CAUSES.

If at any point in time your serial modem doesn't install you have to fix that. Something is wrong with your driver set up. It's not necessarily a PEBCAK, as the software IS FRUSTRATING, but always second guess the computer and yourself.

Meaning even though you did everything in my guide, you may need to redo some steps. You may need to install the driver TWICE, you may need to turn off your antivirus as it's blocking installation, you may need to turn off your system 3 times.

Also I'll be honest I tried both running as admin and non and things worked either way. But who knows maybe YOU have to run as admin.

I will help individually.

I install the modem Ports and then it says installed succefully, a minute later I get a reinstall notification to fix problems...I don't understand why it just won't install?

Well as Hashtag and I found out LGTools is a bitch. In short, the program seems to require internet access and refuses to install or play nicely until it gets it. Separate installations of the downloaded programs do nothing.

This is likely dependent on your router and if you can turn off firewall settings or better yet, connect directly to the internet I suspect the problem will go away.

I am going to grab lunch now and later on I can team view some of you, however you can try to call in VM and ask for a data reset, etc. etc.

In the meantime I'll try to find out if an APK can read nvitems. My belief is no, but won't know until we try.

I'm also having trouble finding the magic code in the memory dumps. I am getting dumps of the right size, and the data is more than just 0x00 and 0xff, just nothing that looks like what we're looking for.

I have noticed that if i turn my phone on in 'normal' mode, I can adjust the settings, and it seems to affect the resulting dumps I get while in download mode. With wifi and gps both turned off, I do get mostly blocks of 0x00 and 0xff. With the wifi and gps turned on, I get lots of other values mixed in with the 0x00 and 0xff. I have done multiple dumps without changing my settings and binary compare of them and in the whole file, there is only 7 bytes that are different, in groups of 1 and 2 bytes. It seems that at least everything on the PC side is consistant.

Can somebody that has gotten this to work post what settings they have? Since the gps and wifi settings are both affecting my output, it might be that some other setting is affecting it, too.

Can someone that's having issues try something for me as I'm not at a pc.

After connecting the phone in download mode and the drivers setup, go to device manager and under modems try disabling the androidnet usb modem. Then open qpst and try the dump

Seems in the past I ran into an issue that was resolved by disabling the modem. Not saying it'll work but can't hurt trying

*Edit - Made no difference

I disabled that too. I can't say/remember if that made the difference either.

Edit, ok giantpune does have a dump I have not seen before.

I am not going to rule out an issue with the driver, but will ask if you have you tried entering ##DIAG# and entering an invalid spc.

Also try to enter different program commands such as ##DATA# ##RTN# and so forth. The memory does change and alter and whereas before I only had ONE instance of my MSL after using the program codes, there are now 3 instances in the bin.
