Root Retrieving your MSL (ENABLE WIN 7 HIDDEN ADMIN)

i just tried disabling the LGE AndroidNet USB Modem in the device manager, then restarted the computer. I still get nothing useful in the dumps.

I also started the phone normally and did ##DIAG# and entered the wrong number. when i enter the wrong number 2 times, the phone restarts itself, i guess to keep somebody from bruteforcing it. I have made some dumps after entering the wrong number and it didn't seem to do anything magical to the memory dumps.

I haven't been able to get a good dump yet... I've tried reinstalling drivers and just about anything I can think of. Weird how some phones get a good dump and others don't. I've even tried on 2 computers at home and 1 here at work.

@WhisperPntr didn't you say you don't have cell or was it data? Anyway what if we turned off our data or cell and did a dump? just throwing ideas.

Having phone in download mode should prevent cell or data connections but just a guess.

Also I wonder if factory resetting and mem dumping the freshly reset phone would help any.

I'm going to factory reset and if needed, reflash my phone then look through the differences.

Though a part of me wants to search for a much more elegant solution.

EDIT
Factory reset the phone. In addition, I purposely broke my install and am now getting the empty data bins to see what exactly I need to do to fix it. Will get back to you.

EDIT What fixed my empty data bins (streamlining this)
Reinstalled the drivers
Exit out of QPST, LG mobile update
Go to Device Manager -> Ports - >
Right click and uninstall LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port
(if it prompts for a restart a program is using the port, turn off that program)
Power on your phone normally
Turn on development mode if it's not already on and let the drivers install
Disconnect the usb cable, turn off the phone
Device Manager -> and UNINSTALLING the com port
Powered on my phone again and then switched the com port to 6

I will be improving this process

So, I tried a few more things. I went through and deleted everything I could find related to LG, old software for my optimus V, LG devices under the device manager, etc. I reinstalled everything from scratch again using the mobile support tool, it all installs properly.

I get this when I plug the phone to get it into download mode, note this only popped up when it was in download mode, when I plugged it in with the phone in it's normal operating state, there was no issue.

Screenshot 1

Then, in this screenshot you can see LGE Androidnet serialport com3 says ready to use, but LGE CDMA USB Modem hangs at "installing driver software" for about 8 minutes before doing this

This is where I connected it to QPST Config

and here is showing the active phone and memory debug screens

I hope these screenshots help a bit, not sure why that last driver is failing to install...

*edit* I'm following your process now, seeing if that helps.

*edit 2* Alright, followed the instructions Whisper's instructions in the post above. Still getting the same error http://i.imgur.com/f83Sf.png
The only thing I noticed was the com port never even appeared in the device manager UNTIL I put the phone in download mode. I tried letting it install the drivers while it was in USB debugging mode, but that did not seem to do the trick.... Am I missing a set of drivers for some reason?

HASHTAG, this should work for you.

EVERYONE
, if you're still patient enough to do this, I finally pulled apart a working driver install that doesn't depend on the crappy LG install process.

1) Go to your start menu and uninstall LG Mobile Update
2) Go to your control panel and uninstall
LG USB WML Modem Driver
LG SP USB Driver
LG United Mobile Driver
3) reboot
4) download LGVM696.zip
5) Open the Zip and drag the LGVM696 directly to the root of your C drive. (do not let it create two LGVM696 directories -ie C:\LGVM696\LGVM696)
6) Run
C:\LGVM696\LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN37AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.7.2.exe
Then
C:\LGVM696\LG_SmartPhone\LGSmartPhone_ModemlinkDUNDrive_WHQL_ML_Ver_1.0.exe
C:\LGVM696\LG_SmartPhone\LGWindowsMobile_USBDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver_1.0.exe
7) Start your phone normally and let the drivers install
8) After the drivers successfully install unplug the phone and power it off
9) Start it in download mode
10) You should get the com port successfully, if the modem driver installation fails ignore it.
11) Go into QPST config, remove all the existing ports, then then add the new port.
12) Open up QPST Memory debug and the top left icon should say COM# Phone in Download Mode, not anything else.

13) A bin pull after this, if corrupt should no longer be driver related

No dice. I may try a fresh install following the above directions on another computer just to make sure something is not messed up on this one.

Sorry for my ignorance guys but in the step:

"Dial ##DATA# click on Data Profile then edit. Enter in your SPC twice so that it reboots. It should reboot into charging rather than resetting."

what does the SPC stand for? and how do I acquire it?

today is not my day, my laptop just fell from my bunk bed :(

How much different are the msl codes from each phone?

Each phone has a unique 6 digit code. It is somehow based off the msid number

If you attempt to enter an incorrect spc number twice the phone will power off. If it's plugged in it will enter charging mode

SPC = Service Programming Code

The purpose if this thread is to help you get your spc. It has proven difficult to pull from the elite

Hey man I got time. I what's your group chat?
bob if you've got teamviewer hit me up.

No guarantees, but I can at least ensure your drivers are correctly installed.

I will also start looking more closely at chipsets and so forth.

Also I will likely hit the hay at around 2am my time. it's currently 1:23.

No it's not under warranty :( luckily I have a hdmi port and I can't connect it to my TV :)

Also I got my msl number from virgin mobile just now

Glad you got your msl though sorry about your laptop. When you have time and you aren't sick of the program, do you mind starting your phone normally with ##DIAG# enabled and then pulling off a bin then finding the MSL code? I want to know if it consistently exists at the hex offset.

I did a search on my bin and couldn't find the hex, I tried a search and none of the numbers matched what I had from what virgin mobile gave me
