Return Droid X and get D2 global

Just ordered a Droid X. I know probably a little late in the game, but my area doesn't have 4g yet. I wanted the X because of the specs and it seems to be a really solid device based on what I've read.

My dilemma know is I'm thinking I should have ordered the D2 global. Specifically because of the size and physical keyboard since I'm switching from blackberry.

Should I not activate and swap for the D2 global?

Well the last time I was out of the country was vacation last year and the last thing I wanted to do was talk on the phone. :D

I was more or less thinking that the d2g would be better for someone coming from BB. However, I saw a bunch of posts on the horrible battery.

Is the Droid X that much bigger than the d2b that it makes it a pain to carry around in your pocket?

Getting a 4g device isn't a bad idea, you'll be locked into the $29.99 unlimited 4g (same as 3g) and won't have to do the tiered plan once your area gets 4g

The global is a nice phone. My brother has one. The battery life is bad especially when using 3G. Although factory clocked at 1.2Ghz it doesn't seem any faster than my DX.

That said, if you need a global phone it's pretty much your only option. The keyboard is nice for some things but he doesn't use it that often.

I would get a 4g phone right now if you can get locked in at $29.99 per month unless you need the GSM radio.

If you need a global phone, then the Droid Global is your ticket.

Otherwise, DX is better in most areas. Don't worry about the keyboard. You get used to the virtual one quickly.

Coming from the Droid 2 to the Droid X I can say I do not believe you will miss the physical keyboard unless you edit a lot of word documents.

As far as being locked into unlimited data on 4G, I've seen many people say that but I have read no official word from Verizon, so I would love to know where that information originated.

i wouldn't get the D2G unless i needed a global phone...the X is better in every other way...just about every one of the people i know that has a D1 or a D2 never uses the physical keyboard...the X is just a better device (outside of the global connectivity for the D2G, or the stock 1.2ghz clock speed)

the X is bigger, but the D2 is SIGNIFICANTLY thicker than the X...id rather have a thin phone with a lot of screen than a fat phone with a smaller screen...

oh...and i have trouble using the top row of keys on the D2...i guess my thumbs are too fat or something...

i switched from a BB curve 8330 to the X about 2 months ago. at first the size was a little intimidating (that's what she said! - i couldn't resist it, sorry!) but now it just seems normal. the virtual keyboard was a little tough to adjust to but you can turn the x sideways and get a bigger keyboard (although i hardly ever turn mine sideways and have that auto switch function turned off) you'll find that the x is the best device you have ever owned and since i'm also in an area where 4G won't be available for another 5+ years i don't feel as if i'm missing anything. i've yet to root it and i'm sure once i do my feelings about the x will multiply. get the x, enjoy and welcome to the Xmen!

Verizon has already said they are going to a tiered plan, they just haven't said when. Several Verizon employees have told me all they know is that its going to a tiered but don't know when, one did say sometime this summer

I've read that also, but it doesn't say anything about being grandfathered into an unlimited 4G just because you sign up for one now.

I got my wife a D2 Global, and she just told me after about 2 months use, 'honestly, I never use the keyboard anymore'. The only reason I got her than over the X was she liked the physical keyboard, but if I could do it again, she would prefer a X or similar. It doesn't take more than a week tops to forget about the keyboard.

So many people are just used to the physical keyboard or they have only tried the crappy blackberry touch screen which is extremely inaccurate they think all are like that, the new android phones are so accurate that I think anyone who gives them a chance will prefer the touch keyboard
