i have not checked lately for kitkat, but i do not think that the og evo could handle the software. there is a reason why kitkat is running on newer devices and not the older ones.

jb is different, though i have not tried any to recommend.

and did you flash a custom kernel? that is what is needed for hdmi mirroring, but again not sure if there is one for ics or even jb.....it has been a long time since i last used my og evo.

and as far as bluetooth try this:https://community.sprint.com/baw/docs/DOC-2380

and overclocking this phone is very old technology and was one of the firsts at the time for htc. it set the standards....the thundebolt came much later and that is why it can be overclocked much higher then the og evo.....on my og evo i can't go past 1100. it will freeze up and bootloops if i have it higher so i set it below 1000. and it is why i like gingerbread for this phone. ics and jb were just too buggy for me.

i think i answered all of your questions.....LOL

yea i think so..even i hear kitkat can be ran smoothly on new device with 512 ram only.

hmmm...then my hdmi fone port might not broken yet hahaha, ill give try for synergy rom(i hope kernel built up hdmi mirroring) so i can make sure fone hdmi port work or not.

oh my gosh im lucky enough set to maxs 113x then on strike ics ehehe

i do like gingerbread also..but ma game clash of clans wont run on gingerbread...:(

btw what means of og?...im googling find severeal means...
OG = Original Gangster
OG = Original
OG = First Evo now that there is a 3D one

i think it's "original" eh...

for blue tooth i mean it paired on other device not like normal bluetooth pair... filw wont sent on both sender and receiver...

ah later i give try ..now still flashing synergy rom wish me luck ehehehe

yea, htc cant think better name or what, previously they nicely named thier product, desire, sensation, glacier, tatoo, rhyme, etc...

even now all htc name is One(X,one itself, M8,mini, maxs, etc).

btw is there any volume to wake(screen on) for sense based rom like synergy or prime xl...

im on confuse again..use ics, camera/video/bluetooth bugs..
on gingerbread sense rom clash of clan wont work, volume to wake not exist...

hmm..have to sacrifice something i want on this fone:rolleyes:

lol you can't always get what you want;)
We have KitKat for this device. I should know; I'm the one that got it working ;).

However, as with all ROMs for the OG EVO on Android versions greater than Gingerbread, there is no working FFC, WIMAX, or HDMI. Those features only work on Gingerbread or earlier, as there are no drivers to support them on later versions. It's amazing we can even get the later versions to boot, honestly, let alone almost fully function. But this device just continues to live on, somehow.

P.S. There was only one ICS Sense ROM worked on for this device, and it was never fully functional. Sense on newer Android versions requires way more RAM and storage than device has, as well as updated drivers which will never be backported to the ancient 1st generation Snapdragon found in the OG.

Hii all this is me again ehehehe.

anyone can please share/suggest which "green LED near front camera" apk works on rooted sense based rom(synergy)?
this one
[App Project][Update 09/06/10] WiMAX Message Notifier - xda-developers
or
this one
WiMAX Message Notifier redux [Updated 2011-01-30] - xda-developers

btw again on synergy rom i just find ma hdmi might working..when i plug hdmi cable, on ma evo status bar appear notification video out connected(hdmi)

but weirdly again there is nothing shown on ma tv...
do i miss something...or anything i can do to make ma tv mirror ma evo screen....

I haven't used my EVO 4g in awhile, so I haven't flashed it in awhile. I think I'm doing everything correctly. I need to unroot or revert to a stock ROM for Freedompop. I will be using my old unlocked (HTC Dev) Sprint Evo in lieu of my ATT HTC One (M7) whilst the latter is repaired. I will flash from CM7.2 to stock.

The files described in the unrooting section of ocnbreeze's tutorial are bad or missing, namely the following:

flash_image.zip
mtd-eng.zip
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3

Perhaps there is a better way to do what I want to do, but I'd like to take the most straightforward path to using Freedompop (I just signed up and need to request a refund if I can't get back to stock). Rather than use the unrooting steps, can I just flash to stock?

This is a great resource, which was my guide to flashing very valuable roms, extending the life of my Evo greatly. Now my Evo rises from the ashes, rides again, for one last score, to show The Man what's up. Many thanks.

Welcome abstrak!!
Still gettin' the life outta that Evo eh? Me too!! (deactivated, but still using it:) )
Anyway, I'm not that familiar with FreedomPop, but in order to switch, do they require you to be on a stock/rooted rom, or completely unrooted stock?

What rom do you have on it now?

You say your bootloader is unlocked, so are you still s-on or s-off?

What unroot guide are you following that has the missing files? Can you post the link to it?

Why are my questions kind of random? ;)

Can you post a Screenshot of your bootloader screen?

Sorry for the many questions :o

Certainly thanks for so many questions, and your reply. If I'd been more clear, they wouldn't be necessary. I realized I left some details out but also realized someone would ask questions where I was unclear.

Freedompop is an allegedly "free" service that uses Sprint's 3g/ 4g for VOIP, and that requires you have a stock, unrooted device (as far as I know--stock ROM could be ok, and I'd be willing to try this if it is more straightforward). They actually launched last year with the Evo as their flagship.

I currently have Cyanogenmod 7.2, S-ON, and I am able to make calls using Freedompop on wifi, but not on mobile broadband. I used MazWoz for awhile, and shortly after the last time I flashed to CM 7.2, my SD card failed.

The rooting guide I originally used is the one in this thread, using the HTC Dev method. I have used Amon Ra and usually use Clockwork Mod. The urooting guide I was asking about is here:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...gerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html#post3847623

After I tried the methods described for going back to stock, described under "Unrooting" under Life after root, I noticed there is also an Unrooting section under "troubleshooting" (contributed by Rxpert83). They describe different methods and include different links. The links I posted above in my original post, were either broken or running them as PC36IMG.zip gets a message saying the file is invalid.

I've tried several other methods and files I've found elsewhere, RUU's and PC36IMG methods. RUU's fail, as do the various PC36IMG attempts.

I can't make a screenshot for whatever reason, but:

UNLOCKED
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.18.0001
MICROP-041F
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.01.15

HBOOT

FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB

Back in the proverbial day, I did a lot of this kind of stuff; but it's possible I"m overlooking something. Also, it's worth mentioning that I replace the SD card because the one I previously flashed from failed.

Thanks again.

Ah, understood:)
Well, what about this....make a nandroid backup of your current state.
Flash a stock, rooted rom and see if that helps.
I recommend the rom from Capt Throwback:
[ROM][BASE] 5.07.651.6 Stock - Rooted - Latest Supersonic OTA - xda-developers

Otherwise, if you need to be unrooted, this thread may have the working links:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/655895-complete-unrooting-guide-evo-4g.html

I'm going to try the Captain's ROM first, then I'll try the other method, if needed. That seems to be a cut and paste of the steps I was using, but the links are more up to date. I'm pretty sure that this will fix my issue.

I didn't think I'd be able to flash the stock rom without flash_image and mtd-eng, but that didn't stop me from trying. Thanks again. I'll report back with results. Maybe tomorrow, because I wasn't paying attention and unplugged my phone while attempting the last round of fixes and will need some time to charge.

I have an EVO 4G that all I really want to do is use the HTCdev method to get S-off. It has HBOOT 2.18.001 and
Build Number 5.07.651.6 CL558861 release key software Number 5.07.651.6 710RD.

I have linux mint 17.1 on my computer and am having problems. I did it before on another phone and don't remember having any problems.

I installed Android-SDK by downloading the file from the link on the htcdev site and installing them using this method: how-to-install-android-sdk-tools-on-linux-mint-17-1-rebecca-lts-32-64bit-easy-guide/

I installed Java Runtime using the link at the htcdev site.

I installed android android-tools-adb and android-tools-fastboot from the repositories. It is my understanding that you don't need HTC sync for linux or mac.

I made sure that in the settings on the phone USB debugging was checked and fastboot was unchecked.

I followed the instructions on the htcdev site: started bootloader, highlighted fastboot, pressed the power button,
attached the USB cable and ran fastboot oem get_identifier_token at the command prompt.

All I got was a waiting for device message.

I did some more looking around in some forums and found a suggestion to copy all the files in the /opt/android-sdk-linux/tools directory to the /opt/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools directory. I did this but still only got waiting for device.

Any ideas?

Hmm, I'm not at all familiar with Linux so I'll do my best.
As far as the HTC sync bit, that is just needed for the drivers on windows and I don't know if it's needed for linux.
Does your computer recognize the device otherwise?

Thanks for the reply.

I found a write-up explaining how to solve the problem. Here is the link: http://ktnr74.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-most-comprehensive-write-up-on-how.html

It described using adb direct from Android so I uninstalled the one I got from the repository and followed using all the commands given. Eventually I got it all working and the device was detected and I got my token.

I didn't notice until I was pretty much to the end, but, the post included a script to automate the whole process.

Oh, very nice!
Well, you are a smarter person than I because what is posted there just boggled my mind :D
I'm glad you got sorted!!

I might have been to hasty in thinking I had solved all my issues.

I got the unlock token and got an email with the unlock_code.bin and copied it to /usr/bin/ where the fastboot binary is at. when I switch to that directory and run fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

I get:

sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.170s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
FAILED (remote: unlock token check failed)
finished. total time: 0.175s
I tried running it as sudo as well

Any ideas?

I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner.

I am a Linux user, and Mike, please note that we have this covered -

http://androidforums.com/threads/adb-guide-updated-2014-11-11.443072/#post-5389081

Good for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's the 32-bit base with a follow on post directing to get the compatibility library for Linux. It even comes with a little installer and the post has Linux use instructions.

No matter, let's try to sort out the problem without installing yet another one.

It doesn't matter where you install fastboot - what matters is whether or not multiple installations have ended up putting the bad one in your path.

Meanwhile, sudo is absolutely required.

Let's first ascertain if you're picking up the right one.

In your Terminal, please say -

which fastboot

If it gives the path to the first, non-working fastboot, and if you're in the folder where the correct one is do the following -

1. Confirm the device connection.

sudo ./fastboot devices

If you don't get a response with your serial number, stop.

2. Reattempt with the fastboot in this folder.

sudo ./fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

3. If it fails, recopy the email download to the folder, overwrite the old one. Try again.

Let me know what happens.

And btw - your errors message says that the Unlock_code.bin is NOT in the same folder as fastboot - or - you're not in that folder.

That's what sending 0 kB means - you have zero bytes to send.

Putting Unlock_code.bin was a mistake, we can get past.

In your Terminal are you in /usr/bin??

To get there, command -

cd /usr/bin

Note the space after the cd.

Issue the unlock command from the same place where Unlock_code.bin is.

Or stay where you are change your command to -

sudo ./fastboot flash unlocktoken /usr/bin/Unlock_code.bin
