Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Now I get it. I was looking for a folder named "SD" or something like this. Sometimes the simplest things get us hung up. I'm dragging the zip file now and will report back what happens. I'm holding my breath....
I believe it may have all worked. I followed all other instructions and am now waiting for the custom ROM to instal.

Thank you Mikestony and Ocnbrze!

You're welcome and Ocnbrze is ALOT more knowledgeable than I.
I learned alot from him and others here.
Hope it turned out great!
Any more questions and we all will be here.:)

ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip link is broken

I'll try to find a link for you or pehaps someone will beat me to it which is quite alright, I thought I had one in my dropbox, but I dont.:(
Stand by...:)

Edit: I just spend 10 minutes searching but couldn't find it.
Is it really needed? In my opinion, no...just manually wipe 3 times...that's what I do anyways:)

Not exactly sure what step 5 you are on. Are you on the HTC dev site?

Edit: just re-read your post, yeah download the android sdk, it will install the files you need...sorry

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!
if you follow the guide, you need to do all of the steps. after unlocking the bootloader you will need to get a recovery and then either flash the su file or flash a custom rom. just follow the steps and you will ok.

thanks. i thought step 2 and 3 was just for optional stuff.

Edit: Im on part 3 of the HTCdev root tutorial...the link for vvv superwipe is broken or doesnt wanna work on google chrome and further below under "after the root" tab the second link for it is at megaupload.... megaupload got shutdown a few months ago bye the fbi so can u pls re upload it, thanks or give me a link to a different one pls, on part 2 of HTCdev tutorial after u type the stuff on cmd it says it works and stuff but i see no differences on my phone

See post 1331...a couple posts up for the superwipe .zip...
When you say part 2, is it the "get recovery" step?

Yeah on get recovery step after I move the thing in the zip file into Android then use cmd on it and type that stuff it says some loading stuff says it took 2.6 seconds then says completed.....there's seems to be no difference to my phone though. I haven't completed step 3 of HTCdev were u flash the rom or whetever. I just wanna make sure I diddnt mess up in get recovery. So does the recovery just add a file to my phone or should there be a recovery app or something

I assume you used the ADB method to install recovery.
If it said completed, then it is, you wont see recovery yet unless you boot into it, but dont worry about that yet...
I would now flash the superuser file, then stay on stock rom or flash a custom rom...:D

thanks, i just wanted to make sure i diddnt wait all night for the rom to download all night for nothing

Edit:so the rom and superwipe is downloaded. i just move them onto the sdcard of my phone, then continue through the following steps. i dont unzip, extract them do i?

Correct, no unzip...follow the steps and you should be good to go.
If my replies are delayed, I am at work and I float between my desk and shop.
:)
But others are here also...no worries!

by the time your done with work the rom and superwiper might be done being put onto my phone cuz right now theres 26 minuts left :/

Edit: right before i put this it was 26...... now seconds after i posted this theres 13 minuts left... :O

im using the rom that was recomended in the HTCdev root tutorial MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]) i got it working it looks way better then stock. for some reason it took like 20 minuts to put the rom onto my phone using a usb cord

Edit: are there any you would recommend me use, or try out? Ive heard from people that if u root your phone you could overclock it or something to make it run smoother on games that run slow and are choppy. if so how can i do this.

I'd stick with that awhile...Its a very nice, smooth, fast rom.
It's a sense based rom.
But, if you want to try something different, there are lots out there.
Just research and read up on the different roms to see which one looks good for you.
I am running Deck's Reloaded, an AOSP rom....
What's the difference you say? Exactly, I can't quite explain but someone else might.
See my sig for a link....my signature is in my first post in this thread.:)

Does MikG support undervolting and overclocking

not sure, but i think that the kernel that comes with mikg3.11 is the stock 2.3.5 kernel. so i doubt that it can over and underclock the cpu speeds. the rom has nothing to do with clocking your phone. all of that is determined by the kernel.

here is some reading on kernels:

here is setcpu to over and underclock the phone:

Hello, thanks for the great write up and info......

I'm following the HTCDev method.
Step #1 complete. bootloader is unlocked. I have on my bootloader:

*** UNLOCKED ***
SUPERSONNIC EVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.18.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.12.19

For step #2, I got amon RA 2.3 loaded and was able to get into it in recovery

Step #3 , was able to run the su file using the flash zip from sdcard in Amon RA. File ran ans said "complete. Enjoy!"

I now have on my bootloader:

*** UNLOCKED ***
SUPERSONNIC EVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.18.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.12.19
