Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

okay, I feel like an idiot. I downloaded them, but did not install. I think thats what i needed to do right? Anyways, I'm letting them download and I'll be back on in like 30 to see if I can do it again. Thank you so much for your help, and if I have anymore issues I'll come back :D

I need help rooting my wifes EVO that's on 2.3.5 I followed the directions on HTC DEV when I select all other supported models from the drop down, and then hit Begin Unlock Bootloader nothing happens. It's as if the site isn't responding. Anyone have any ideas? I am using WIFI from my rooted EVO, but I don't think that has anything to do with it, because I have full access to the HTCDEV site.

Okay, so i got my phone unlocked.. but I am very confused on how to flash these files to my sd card to root my phone... Will someone help me out? I've been working on this all night, and I'm afraid I am going to seriously mess my phone up. Thanks..

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok so really all you need to do is skip down to the second post and follow directions on how to get recovery. once you have a recovery you can either flash the su file or you can flash a rom.

Hi there,

Just wanna start by saying....long time user, first time poster...

I tried to do this in an effort to unlock my bootloader, and was given a code 173 Check Fail Rule w/ exception.

After being on the phone with HTC for about 2 weeks now, turns out that the EVO 4G is not providing the correct encryption in the Identifier Token and is being rejected.

Now, I'm not sure if I'm the only person having this problem....but it is aggrivating to all hell since it seems now I cannot root my phone.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong....if I am, OP please assist!

Welcome to the forums!! :)

Well, we need to see what hboot version you have to move forward.

First thing is to turn the phone off, pull the battery, and put it back in. Hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button simultaneously until the white screen with Andy riding a skateboard appears. This screen is your bootloader, or hboot. Type exactly what you see on this screen and we'll get you fixed up. :)

Thats the newest OTA h-boot. He will need to use this guide. As far as that specific error, I've never heard of it.

Yes I do

Edit: Alright, after I press close, I see Android SDK tools revision 15 and Android SDK platform tools revision 9 on the left side.

check your antivirus software, it might be preventing it from connecting. and you are running the sdk manager, correct? not the and not the AVD manager, correct?

also try running sdk as administrator. right click on the sdk manager exe file and select run as administrator.

Still doesn't work. Whats the AVD manager?

Also, should HTC sync be installed before one tries to unlock the bootloader?

yes htc sync needs to be installed. avd manager comes with the android-sdk r12 windows. it is right next to the sdk manager exe file.

so did you try running sdk manager as administartor?
