My 2 cents.
My first Android, 2 years ago, was a Huawei Ascend. It was under powered at half the processing power of the OE. The only good thing about the Ascend were devs that could create outstanding ROMs for it. I moved and had to change phone service.
The OE is the 3rd VM Android phone that I have had since December. The first was the Kyocera Rise and the second was the Kyocera Event. The Rise was a fairly decent phone, and the Event even better. By Kyocera had the boot loaders locked, and said that VM did not request it unlocked. This allowed the phones to be rooted, but no recovery applications could be installed, hense, no backups. The Rise boot looped on me after trying to set it back to factory default using the option built into the Settings. The Event crashed after I deleted a folder I shouldn't have.
Now that brings me to the OE. It has more processing power than any of the other phones I have had, has the unlocked bootloader, and devs that are awesome. The battery life is much better than the others also. This may be an entry level phone, butI think it's at the top of the entry level group.
