Root [ROM][4.0.4][BETA] CM9 for Virgin Mobile and Sprint 10/3/2013

Phenom has already fixed nfc but has nothing to test it with, afaik wallet doesn't work however. The camera is being worked on.

That's as far as I'm aware

I ordered some nfc tags. Hopefully they get here on or before Saturday. The camera is tricky but it's close, just need to find out what's causing the camera to crash.

Is this phone worth it to get? Will she be grandfathered on the 25$ plan if she switches? Im guessing no?

im getting the phone used for 50$ but id rather spend that on a PS3 TBH 120$ to play GTA V when it comes out.. I just feel so bad for her having to deal with a LG Rumor Touch I want to get her somthing she can actually browse the web with and skype with me while shes not near her PC.

Hows the N64 emulator Mupen work on this thing do N64 Roms run smooth? Like Ocarina of time and such?

Just generally speaking, for me, the phone runs great. It takes over clocking well, the display isn't all that bad, battery life is decent.
Now you're asking solely about objective preference, which is obviously different for all of us in what we use the phone most for and the type of performance we are accustomed to. That could be and probably is entirely different from your stand point. Also as far as basing your desire to buy the phone entirely on time constraints and readiness of the phone to suit your standards..... Well obviously, we're all waiting and we'd all really like for little quarks to be worked out, fact is ROM development (especially on android) is not a particularly "on demand" type of issue, as of coarse you already know. The time constrains are determined individually by whomever is putting time and effort into developing Free open source software.
So, my opinion... Sure it's a fantastic phone for a much lower price than some other phones with the same or similar specs. :)

I was able to keep my $25 plan, but I have a feeling VM is going to end it at some point soon. If I had to pay $35, I'd like to have 4g - at least wimax. Lte is pretty worthless on sprint until they build out their network.

If she is only ever on WiFi it is a fantastic device, otherwise it is a loaded streaming pile of crap. It overheats, has poor cell reception and dismal battery life off WiFi.

When I replaced my elite my wife said she absolutely did not want it as a hand me down.

I feel the exact opposite.

I do agree the Elite has issues with the network connection, but can be helped with Juice defender and doing this helps.
I certainly will not complain about battery life....

Its not my daily driver but here's my take.
A. Its an entry level device so it is what it is. But its specked pretty nice at a 59.99 price point...lets be honest.
B. It has a fair amount of roms and there's still development for it.
C. Once CM9 is stable and kernel work continues we may see some things such as undervolting etc that can reduce battery consumption and heat. The only thing I've noticed that gives me pause for concern is the phone idle time and phone standby...I think that could be a radio issue.
Decent little phone for the money IMO.

I get pretty good battery life without any battery saving apps.

My 2 cents.
My first Android, 2 years ago, was a Huawei Ascend. It was under powered at half the processing power of the OE. The only good thing about the Ascend were devs that could create outstanding ROMs for it. I moved and had to change phone service.
The OE is the 3rd VM Android phone that I have had since December. The first was the Kyocera Rise and the second was the Kyocera Event. The Rise was a fairly decent phone, and the Event even better. By Kyocera had the boot loaders locked, and said that VM did not request it unlocked. This allowed the phones to be rooted, but no recovery applications could be installed, hense, no backups. The Rise boot looped on me after trying to set it back to factory default using the option built into the Settings. The Event crashed after I deleted a folder I shouldn't have.
Now that brings me to the OE. It has more processing power than any of the other phones I have had, has the unlocked bootloader, and devs that are awesome. The battery life is much better than the others also. This may be an entry level phone, butI think it's at the top of the entry level group.

i will update the rom today or tomorrow. Here is a list of what changed.

Kernel:
Updated KGSL
Backported binder,lowmemorykiller,logger,timed_gpio,timed_output from 3.x kernel
Backported Zcache from 3.x kernel.
Backported cleancache from 3.x kernel
Enabled Deadline I/O scheduler
Increased GPU bus

Rom:
Fixed haptic feedback
Always show 3G (for now)

Rom/kernel:
Fixed NFC (not tested)

I'm pretty sure I left out some stuff. If i remember I'll update the list.

TODO:
A lot

Update is causing the play store to force close. I tried clearing the cache but it didn't help. Any ideas? Play store worked fine in the last version. I just installed the zip without erasing anying.

Same issue as glgermain. Flashed the updated rom over the previous version. Caused Google Play to fc, and my Google account to be removed from the phone (as well as the option to add a Google account).
