Root [ROM][ALPHA] Triumph CM9 v0.6.17.0 [FINAL]

Once the hardware drivers are fixed, an easy route for the software would be probably to incorporate Camera ICS+ from the market. Just a suggestion from a guy who doesn't know what he's taking about

From one guy who doesn't know what he's talking about to another:

Why wouldn't the built-in camera software work? Why would you need separate software incorporated? If the hardware drivers are already situated, the software that comes with ICS should work automatically.

Oh ok

Hi, i flashed to 0.6.10.3 a couple of times this week from 0.6.4. I used the gapps-ics-20120304-signed.zip file linked here. I did a wipe/factory reset before flashing both the new rom and the gapps package.

I was able to boot and run several apps, but it was a little unstable: toggling off data would cause the phone to reboot. Wifi was broken - couldn't turn it on at all.

I thought a newer gapps package might help. I found a link for the newest gapp package and flashed it: gapps-ics-20120304-signed.zip. Unfortunately, I had the exact same problems.

I decided to try the gapps package that worked with 0.6.4: gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11.zip. Everything worked fine using this gapps package.

I was wondering why I can't use the recommended gapps files posted here. If I am doing a factory wipe reset, it seems like the phone should be the same as everyone else who did the same. Why can't i use these gapps files without problems? Anyone know what is causing this?

Thanx.

overall, this is working really well for me. Some of the unfinished settings and programs are annoying, but that's just part of using an early build of CM9.

I have had one issue though. Every time I try to run Google Earth the phone reboots. Anyone else seeing this issue? I wonder if it's a GPU problem.

I use Google Earth religiously. not one reboot. works flawlessly.

EDIT: worked on 0.5.x no longer works on newer roms. has to be all the kernel changes.
Mantera might be able to tell us why.

Yeah, it's weird that the newer gapps package wouldn't work right for you. However, it doesn't really matter which gapps package that you use. The only reason to use the newer gapps package is so that you don't have to upgrade the gapps files as soon as you boot into the ROM. So if the older one works for you, go ahead and keep using it.

If you guys want to troubleshoot, try taking the boot.img file from the 0.5.x ROM and flashing that in the latest ROM and see if that makes a difference. That would rule out if it's a ROM problem or a kernel problem.

Does anyone know how to turn off the on-screen soft keys?

Besides those and the camera issue, this is a really nice usable rom. Thanks!

It's in the changelog. ;)

Alpha 0.6.9.4
-updated kernel version to 2.6.32.13 (note: I had to leave the kernel version showing as 2.6.32.9 because changing the version number broke wifi)
-kernel uses Whyzor's latest touchscreen driver-no longer reports x,y on finger removal, among other tweaks
-disabled bt quick switch so MT will deep sleep even if bt is enabled
-added user configurable setting to enable/disable navigation bar: System Settings --> Display --> Enable/Disable Navigation (requires reboot).
-wifi tweaks - should autoconnect better now, disconnects faster when screen is off (if the wifi policy is set to turn off when screen is off)
-changed the mic fix so we don't remove the fm stuff for phones that do have fm (you'll probably not notice a difference but noting it here in case an issue comes up)

I didn't see this asked and I apologize if it was but I'm having a weird problem with my texting. Even though the messages are going through, its still putting a red caution triangle and saying the message couldn't be delivered. Anybody know why this is and maybe a way to fix it? Mostly its just bothersome to look at and its making my OCD act up accordingly :-(

my text are going through...don't know why urs aren't.

Just as a heads up to ppl if you are looking for some of the interface customization that will be coming with ics just use Go Launcher ex and get one of the ICS themes they have for it. This is probably obvious to most ppl but I thought I would throw it out to ppl who don't know. I'm new to using custom roms and this forum but would like to say thanks to Mantera, whyzor, perkinsII, and the rest of the dev team. Also ziggy46 and agentc13 for the helpful posts you've put up. You know what your doing and there's thousands of us that appreciate it.

had the same issue on cm7 tg-reloaded last eek, but it went away...maybe it was due to vm's outage?

Yes, I plan to, but I am concerned that I won't be able update google apps when they are actually needed in the future. For instance, at some point, a new CM9 update might require a higher google apps package than the one currently installed.

I wonder if there might be something installed in my root or system partition that is the source of the problem. I will have to take a closer look.

BTW, I just tried it again with factory reset AND cleaning dalvik cache. Same problem. I am looking into something called "gapps fixer" too.

I'll try that. thanks

Edit: Took the boot.img out of 0.5.x and flashed to 6.10.x, Google Earth works again. so far i have flashed boot.img from every version I have all the way up to 0.6.5 and it still works. I am downloading the rest of the rom versions to figure out which version it crashes at. Stay tuned.

Edit 2: Ok... Google Earth works on all kernels from 0.5.x ROM to the 0.6.9.4 ROM. Then it crashes when trying to load from the kernel on 0.6.9.10.2 ROM. Something is wrong with that kernel.

Mantera, is there any kernel versions in between 2.6.32.13 and 2.6.32.16? If so... can you post them so I can check to see exactly where the issue starts..? I have no ability to fix any problems with the kernels, but I could at least pin point which kernel they goofed up. If there isn't any kernels in between the two, then Kernel version 2.6.32.16 is the one with the issue.

I know this is off topic but what does this mean and how do i fix it"Ignoring touch event because phone interface was null"?

I was able to get the new GAPPS packages to work with 0.6.10.3. I am now running this ROM with gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip, which is supposedly the newest package.

I had to run gapps fixer to do it though. I am not sure how it works, but it did the job. Now the phone runs pretty smooth, more so than when I was using the older GAPPS zip. More apps are functioning properly - no reboots or FC. With the older GAPPS, I had to revert to older versions of some apps because of forced reboots, eg, Juice Defender.

If anyone has trouble getting wifi to turn on or calendar or market issues, you might want to try flashing gapps fixer. You flash it the same way that you flash the ROM or GAPPS. Here is a link I found on the web:

http://tux-head.net/pawitp/gapps_fixer.zip

Is there a GPS fix in this one? It takes considerably longer to lock on than the speed demon kernel. Wifi also isn't as strong.

I just flashed along with the gapps fix, and everything seems very smooth.I am running the automatic task killer from market, and installed dolphin HD. Flash now works within dolphin, the system is very smooth, and the auto task killer keeps memory very fast. Only thing is to wait for camera and Netflix.

It's in there buddy. Unless you're using an older version of the ROM than 0.6.9.4 and newer.

Menu button/ system settings/ display/enable disable navigation bar (requires root)

Ohhhh. I haven't updated yet. I assumed I did but I remembered that these updates weren't important enough to warrant an update (personally) :o.

Most of the updates are Kernel updates, which are actually good reason to update because they help your phone run smoother and keeps the battery from draining so fast. The only one I wouldn't use is the last two updates. only because Google Earth wont work with the Kernel that was updated. but that's my personal choice.
