Root [ROM] Android 2.2 FroYo - Brought to you by MDW (OC & Flash 10.1!)

Did you extract the nandroid folder from the zip file?

Are you using the Nandroid recovery menu to apply it ("apply zip from sdcard" won't work).

ahh u just helped me with my problem ive been doin zip method i forgot it was nandroid for some reason

So is there a guide to get this 2.2 on the droid? Sorry this is my first update.

Not really, but the instructions are pretty simple. I suppose one of us (or a few of us collaborating) will need to do a mini write-up to get everyone up to speed.

The problem is that most folks who have already rooted their phones also have played with alternate ROMs - a lot - so it is second nature to us as to what we're supposed to do.....

OK, I've been lurking on this thread all day and finally bit. When I try to flash the new ROM it keeps taking me back to my current install of NexBeastV1.1. I tried using the CW version in OP both via CW and as an unstuffed directory in nandroid backup folder. Both times, the phone reboots and "appears" to be installing something, but the something is apparently what I already had. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to first reinstall stock 2.1?

It appears to be doing something, but this something is not doing it for very long, right?

You have to extract the contents of the ZIP archive so that you get a new folder with content - if you extract the ZIP to its own folder, then you have nothing but a folder inside - and in *that* folder is where the important files are. However, Nandroid doesn't bother looking past the first folder - so if you have a folder in a folder, it will never install.

Fab, I could understand where this poster is coming from. If you aren't familiar with what download links do what on your op it would be hard to know what to do with any of it.

Thanks for the mirrors btw!

While I can sort of understand what you're saying, I'd venture that if you ahve your phone rooted already and have played with even a single alternate ROM, you should have the basics already down.

However, for the *new* n00bs that have just rooted their phone specifically for Froyo, you're right - this is gonna be a challenge.

i dont think im doing anything wrong but i download the clockwork nandroid i go into recovery wipe twice choose to install from sd card select the zip file and attempts to do it for a sec i reboot and it just goes back to my last rom but from scratch

You extracted the ZIP file to a folder with the same name - and thus there is a folder inside that folder where the files are, but Nandroid can't see past the first folder. Fix that and you'll be golden.

Oh, just realized that's the weather. I thought that notification with the temp was system temp. Didn't even get as far in my head as realizing 87C would be phone-melting. :o

I have Temp Monitor reporting the temperature in Fahrenheit also, so your query was actually a valid one.

ok so i extracted the zip as nandroid folder placed in the backup folder of clockwork now i go to restore and im getting md5 mismatched how do i fix this..am i still doin something wrong i dont think i am

Try downloading it again - seems your DL might be corrupt.

Didn't think about it that way - makes sense.

I've been using CW so much I have forgotten a lot of things myself, like the things I used to do in the early days when I was using SPRecovery - like using ADB to backup all my apps, etc.

Let's see if anyone is already working on one, if not, I'll be willing to put in some time....

Oh, an I have Acrobat, so I can make a distributable PDF for folks wanting to print / view off-line.

I'll write up some instructions when I get back from dinner. I was caught up in the excitement that I just assumed that everyone knew how to install via nandroid.

Edit: or John could do it ;)

Let's play nice. I will try to write them up but I have got a bit of working to do before I get to it - after all, once it is on the phone I sure as hell ain't gonna want to keep reinstalling it over and over to get every thing right, yanno....

Plus, I haven't used SPRecovery in a while now....

Dammit, Fab, you're at Mammoth Caves - freakin' enjoy yourself already! :D

Ah, I lied. Went to the natural bridge today instead, and now I'm back in Lexington.

Mammoth caves tomorrow :)

Thanks for taking the time to respond, but with respect, I *think* I am doing it right. I am unzipping contents into its own folder and placing that folder in /nandroid on my SD card. I reboot my phone while holding down "X" to get to recovery then choose "nandroid" and "recover" followed by selecting the correct folder (there are two in the /nandroid dir including the backup of NexBeast). The update takes awhile, but I know it's wrong as soon as I see apps like Slacker being installed according to the update log. Any ideas?

Give it awhile to sync all your apps and stuff. And a couple of reboots, with battery pulls is a good idea too. You'll be surprised that it keeps getting faster and faster.

thanks messenger, I was puzzled about what that was hahaha, I was hoping it was some cool new app, with a cool icon in the status. You ruined my 2.2 experience lol haha jk.
